Thanks but its a question of disc noise rather than speed in the case of
atachment to the RPi - it's next to the stereo where I do my serious
listening. A low cost HD would be OK if I went with the server option
being upstairs.

Wow - trying to replace the original for the time being - but it's an
awful fit. Is there a secter for sliding it back in - mine still has
2-3mm to go (I can tell from the position of the notch and the
semicircular cut outs on the sides) but I can't budge it . . . .

Problem now is that it no longer picks up radio (Alien BBC) and can't
connect to Squeeze Network - but I suspect that's a result of changimng
IP addresses and settings more times than I've had hot dinners . . . .

I wonder if its because the SB3 in the kitchen is nearer the neighbours
network (but that's where its always been and it used to be OK). I
remember you can change channels somewhere but can't remember where -
would that be on the router (BT Home Hub), NAS or SB3 ?

the speed clumn actually shows (I would be surprised if the 54mps was
actual speed).

I ask as a handful of FLAC files seem to stutter on playback and the
kitchen SB3 (see above) often refuses to reconnect.

I've checked my wireless signal with Netstumbler and the Speed column
shows 54mb, but every few seconds (not periodically) drops to 0.5mb for
a second or two.
Is this normal ? Is the router a problem ?

Presumably using the Transporter's DAC which I would assume is somewhat
better than that of the SB3. Did you vere try running the SB3 via its
digital output to another DAC before plugging that into your Arcam ?

OK - found the problem.
No idea why but the IP address of my NAS had changed ! Only noticed
when I connected the SB3 again and this time noticed that a 4 had
changed to a 5.
Changed the path to the web lookup and all is fine.

I need to take a digital feed from my PC (or NAS) by USB to my
digital/DAC amp. . No idea where to start - I've only ever used the
line out facilities on my motherboard or soundcard before.
Anyone know how to do / configure this ? I've got a feeling it should
be blindingly obvious.

with increasing bit rates (normal
16/44 FLAC = 750, 16/44 WAV = 1400, 24/48 FLAC = 2000 approx). Over
1500 or so it seems to suffer.
By the way, the files are streamed from a QNAP TS201. Is its 128mb
memory a limitation here ?

is emptying faster than it can be replenished.
As far as I can see the only buffer setting in Slimserver relates to
internet radio.
I've run the bandwidth check on the SB3 - all 100% up to 500KBS. Bit
rates on the 24/48 FLAC files are about 2000.

When I hit the NEXT button on the remote, the next track on an album
plays perfectly. Yet the name of the original track still displays -
shouldn't this move on the the second track's details ?

all seem OK.
I'm using FLAC files and streaming these as .wav, letting the PC do the
conversion rather than the Squeezebox.
