I'd be interested in a 7" touchscreen contraption. If I found the right tutorial, I'd probably build one. I have no real experience with projects like this. I will be producing vector art for scalability. I'm currently using "Squeeze Meter" as a placeholder. This may seem strange but some words look really nice in that typeface and others don't. Just a quick answer before I call it a day. I'm from The Netherlands so shipping a complete unit to the USA is probably not the best solution ;-) Ralphy provides more up-to-date versions of SqueezePlay for Windows/OSX/Linux on _this (\"https://www.mediafire.com/folder/4q8dvq20iyz9e/Builds\;)_ website. They all have the new Joggler skin included and provide a good starting point for testing new versions of your VU meters. I am using Windows and on this platform it's as easy as replacing the included .png file with a new version before starting SqueezePlay. The file to replace on Windows is: C:\Program Files\SqueezePlay\lua\applets\JogglerSkin\images\UNOFFICIAL/VUMeter/vu_analog_25seq_w.png kolossos4730's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63988 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104608 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

First of all thanks for your continued support. As these high-res VU meters are specific to JiveLite and especially the Joggler skin (which to my knowledge is the only skin still under active development) I would suggest you continue in the _JiveLite (\"http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?98156-Announce-JiveLite-cut-down-squeezebox-control-application\;)_ or _JiveLite_for_piCorePlayer (\"http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103330-Jivelite-for-piCorePlayer\;)_ thread. All development on the Joggler skin, at the moment, is for the piCorePlayer's included version of JiveLite (made by Ralphy). > I definitely want to replace the words "Squeezebox Touch" with something > that's not product-specific. I'm open to suggestions. It wouldn't be too > hard to make more than one version of text...and dark and light > versions. I am in the process of making my first analog VU meter and am also struggling with a decent name. As a placeholder I opted for JiveLite Touch. > I'd like to future proof these by making them easy to scale down from > the largest likely display. What size should I shoot for, 10" displays? > What are the pixel dimensions for that size? It's not really about the display size but about the resolution of the Joggler skin. The Joggler skin is, in my opinion, the only real successor of the original Touch interface. All other HD skins lack certain features compared to this skin. The current Joggler skin resolution is 800x480 which is why the official Raspberry Pi display (which has the same resolution) is such a good match. To be future proof you could develop your new meter in a vector based program like Illustrator/Inkscape. > Lastly, and please understand that this is not intended as extortion > because I will make the new version regardless. You can install applets in a directory under /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/applets in picoreplayer. SOA should be the same you just need to find the $HOME/.jivelite/userpath/applets directory For example I have an alsamixer applet that I use with pcp and it's installed in /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/applets/AMixer. You can use the Applet Installer too if you setup a repo.xml and add it to lms. You also need to add minTarget="0.1" to the applet name xml tag for it to show up in jivelite. Triode chose to use luajit for jivelite which is fast but doesn't support all the addtional lua language extensions added to the lua slimdevices/logitech used for squeezeplay/touch/radio/control. My jivelite build for picoreplayer uses the same lua as squeezeplay and should run custom clock. I had to add the bitop lua language extension to be able to run Triode's modified lua applets with the original logitech lua. Custom clock might need to be modified to run with lua-jit. Re: [slim] Preparing for my players demise
I would like to figure out a way to add the CustomClock applet to JiveLite - that would allow additional custom screens to be used with JiveLite (and the RPi with TouchScreen using PiCorePlayer and Jivelite). I have an RPI currently running squeezelite and jivelite (currently using SOA), with an ADAFruit display (no touch) which I think is the same resolution as the official RPI display - it's almost a touch, but what I miss the most is the CustomClock screensavers (for example, the custom SuperDateTime screens). It would be GREAT if erland could port the customclock applet to work with Jivelite! tcutting's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17402 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104608 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

I just discovered a MUCH easier way to change the VU meters. ssh to picoreplayer sudo mkdir -p /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/applets/JogglerSkin/images/UNOFFICIAL/VUMeter As root copy a 1x453 VU meter png file of your choice to /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/applets/JogglerSkin/images/UNOFFICIAL/VUMeter/vu_analog_25seq_w.png Then you can just cycle through the now playing screens to the VU screen to check it. If you're happy with it save your config from the web gui or sudo filetool.sh -b If you don't like it sudo rm -rf /home/tc/.jivelite/userpath/applets/JogglerSkin If you forget to save the config before the next power cycle/reboot you'll have to repeat the process. Burn the sd-card with the piCorePlayer image, then boot and you will have a working solution out of the box. It is possible to tweak it in various ways, and you can add wifi adaptor, a dac and a screen. All these additions can be manipulated via a web browser from another computer. Thanks. You can also set up a pi using max2play from a ready-made image. If you wanted you could use the same pi2 as you use as server. You could probably also set of squeezelite yourself using localplayer from your existing LMS depending on version. The big picture point is that you don't need to have a fancy streamer; you can use any old streamer and the dac of your choice. There are a few compatiblity issues with usb out from a pi to some dacs, but this can be worked around. If you like using lms I would stick with it as server and then iether go for a pi with a dac board (there are several sorts) or pi plus an ordinary outboard dac of your choice. One thing I would not do it buy into some manufacturers inferior software which you are stuck with if you get their streamer That said alot of people seem to like auralic. adamdea's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37603 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104608 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

One thing you won't get with the HiFiBerry DAC that you have on the TP is balanced analogue outputs. I don't know whether that may be important to you. If it is, consider a Pi with DIGI+ feeding a DAC with balanced outputs. Interesting , my current setup is a Pi version 2 as the server and an external drive as storage - works very well ( much better and quieter than my old setup with a ReadyNas ) - so are you saying the HifiBerry DAC is as good as the Transporter ? We can't stop here this is bat country. Re: [slim] Preparing for my players demise
I haven't got a Transporter to compare it too but others have said it compares well. It certainly compares very well to my Touch & SB3 with my (newly documented) FLAC collection. If you have a separate DAC or amp with digital input then the Digi + may suit you better. Either way at £80 what have you got to lose? As you probably know you can get a "black case" or any other colour for that matter. Take a look at HifiBerry's web site. I like piCorePlayer because the whole thing loads into RAM and therefore can't (or shouldn't) get corrupted by power outages. *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104608 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

See under Linux / > Unix - it has its own thread. Hi d6jg and pkfox, I agree, if you like DIY'ing then the Raspberry Pi is worth experimenting with. I was able to find some RPiB's for $12 on ebay add a $20 DAC and the results are far better than I could have imagined. I do have a Transporter, Touch, Duet and SB3 and use my RPi's 99% of the time. Without doing a DBT, I would put the RPi's very close to the Touch. I do believe that an "audiophile" version of the RPi could be developed to be as good as a Transporter. This is all very subjective, I could be biased because I help Steen with piCorePlayer! d6jp, I have made hundreds of piCorePlayers SD cards and can't remember ever corrupting one, even piCore images for that matter. I have made experimental versions of piCorePlayer that I unmount and remove the SD card altogether. regards Greg Greg Erskine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7403 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104608 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Preparing for my players demise
I have never had to re-image a piCorePlayer (except when you temporarily broke the upgrade) but I can recall re-imaging Raspbian loads of times while I was experimenting with XBMC (Kodi). *Vortexbox LMS 7.8 music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets *Living Room* - SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s - Zone 2 -> Sony TA FE 320 -> Sennheiser RS 130 & B P7 *Office* - RPi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones *Bedroom (TV)* - Amazon Fire TV (SB Player) -> Topping TP20 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=104608 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
