I some how messed up my settings up.

I am using DX4WIN 9.09.1259, and am "not using" rotor control.

I have arcp-890 talking to the radio, but not active. I downloaded the other
port software, and it shows port 3 and 4 in the Device Mng.I downloaded the 890
rig file also.

Screen shots of those, plus my dx4win radio.

Can someone please point me in the correct direction?

TIA

My station is DX4Win with an Icom 7600 and 7700. I too would like to run
WSJT at the same time as DX4Win. I see the previous references to Yaesu's
Win4yaesusuite but didn't bother because I see nothing to tell me this
software will work with Icom.

I have also followed the suggestion to look at N6TV's latest on comports,
page 61 where he talks about comport sharing. He suggests VE3NEA's OmniRig
software, but says this is not supported by N1MM and others. Apparently
DX4Win is one of the others. I looked at the OmniRig documentation; DX4Win
is not included in the list of compatible logging software.

So-Help anyone? Does anyone have the Yaesu suite or the OmniRig solution
working with DX4Win/WSJT and Icom combination?

Re: [Dx4win] Possible software glitch?

2024-01-16 Thread ON4AOI via DX4WIN
Bernie,
it all depends on your AWARD settings for DXCC

IF in Reports|AWARDS|DXCC : Phone -CW & DIGITAL and Image is selected
DX4WIN will look for those 4 qualifiers no matter what Band
If you unselect for example Digital & Image dx4win will ignore these modes
on any band
I only unselect Image since I never have done that But unselecting Digital
is risky
Or you have to unselect before a submission if you are sure there is no ATNO
in digital mode only
And then put it back on afterwards when all is done.

Hi doing a LOTW submission-

Logbook of the world is using one contact to confirm a new mode and new band

Dx4win is using two contacts to do the same thing Dx4win submitting one qsl
for FT 8 mode on 10m band -already confirmed CW SSB

Dx4win is using other QSL 17m QSL for new band only

What I did here remove the 10 m FT 8 for mode and I added the mode to 17 m
new band QSL -1 qsl

I now match LOTW

THE 10 M FT8 would only be a band fill in my log?

Is Dx4win being redundant?

Both contacts were confirmed on LOTW same day

Hi Brad,

Did you check for updates before you tried to open your log ?
If not do that 1st

If yes then do the following

Send your log(s) to a friend
That has the latest DX4WIN version running and ask him
To export your log (adif) in a previous version, for example 8
With this file it will import all again.

Hello all,

I thought that I had goofed up another program (not DX4WIN) and restored my
Windows 10 Pro computer to an earlier date. After doing this, I found that
DX4WIN no longer worked.

In the past, when Microsoft would update my computer, DX4WIN would not run,
so I would uninstall the program, re-install it and my two log files would
be in the new installation.

Now I find that I cannot open either logbook. I get an error message, saying
"ERROR: This logfile requires a later version (P)" and there is a box to
click "OK"

Any ideas on what I can do to take care of this problem? Thank you!

Re: [Dx4win] Filtering digi spots

2023-12-12 Thread ON4AOI via DX4WIN
Hi Juha,
Yes there is a way but not 100% bullet proof and only for FT8 not FT4 since
this is Mode MFSK Submode FT4
I suggest you start with write configuration file in Setup Parameters
Copy that file on a usb stick or safe place.

Now in Setup Parameters
Under "QSO" change all bands CW CUTTOFF frequency so that the FT8 freq is
not part of CW
The reason why I wrote not bullet proof is that some expeditions use another
freq than the
normal FT8 freq and can be in the CW PART

Under Packet 3 tab select the bands you need and in Modes only FT8

Safe this and normally only FT8 spots will get into DX SPOTS WINDOW

[Dx4win] Simple solution trick for missing modes or satnames etc in DX4WIN

2023-11-22 Thread ON4AOI via DX4WIN
Hi All again,
Wining doesn't solve anything, isn't it?

The way I solve it for LoTW upload (eQSL-QRZ etc) takes only 1 second

Modes and Submodes that keep growing everyday.
For the record there are only 4 modes = CW-SSB-DIG and IMAGE
All different digital modes/submodes are counting only for DIG (DXCC-WAZ-WAS)

Case 1
I need Q65 for submode but that’s not available, so I log the qso with JS8
submode, I never had a JS8 qso so no big deal

Case2
I need for QO-100 SX mode (13cm up / 3cm down) so I log OTHER for SatMode with
QO-100 in Sat Name

Export to LoTW or eQSL
Name = log.ADI

In the export directory I created a batch file, old school dos but still works
perfect in Windows
In between = you find lines
Case1 is in the 1st set"line renamed
Case2 in the second set"line changed
==
@ECHO OFF

set "textfile=log.ADI"
set "tempfile=upload.ADI"
(for /f "delims=" %%i in (%textfile%) do (
set "line=%%i"
setlocal enabledelayedexpansion
set "line=!line:JS8=Q65!"
set "line=!line:3cm=BAND:4>13cm!"
echo(!line!
endlocal
))>"%tempfile%"
del %textfile%
rename %tempfile% %textfile%

ECHO Done
:: Pause to see messages
PAUSE
==
Double click on that bat file renames all JS8 to Q65 and also the correct up
freq for QO-100 has been changed
With TQSL you will have the correct qso details uploaded.

Gents,
What are we?
Radio operators, technicians or just a bunch of let the computer do it all for
you?

In my opinion the manual up/download is the only correct way to do it not
automatically.
Why is simple b4 I upload I check always for mistakes. Just check psk reporter
many spots are on wrong
Freq (band) because he lost cat or didn't change band, this also mean that if
it would be automatically uploaded
It will contain useless data for LoTW, qrz, eQSL etc etc.

Tnx to Paul and DX4WIN I have now (in 42years)
4003 bandslots from 160m-13cm+Sat
13 band DXCC
16 band WAC
14 band WAS 160-23cm (probably the 1st non USA)
9 band WAZ

Integration of wsjt-x or clone(s) would only slow down the speed of light we
have now
With a few 100K qso's ..

I agree with Tim K4TK. DX4WIN is an old school DXer's logging program and it
suits my needs very well. Manual LoTW import/export and WSJT-X import are only
a few mouse clicks and take less than a minute.

Having said that, it would be nice to know that Paul has a plan for the future

On a very different note - I would like to see a similar program for the Mac OS.

(Note that I made my living using a piece of equipment designed over 500 years

Jim, thank you for your willingness to help, but my local information QSL SP
Offices should not be in your database and therefore this suggestion does
not solve the problem).

In previous versions this function worked and was very helpful. I have not
found any information anywhere why this function was blocked with the

I bought DX4WIN for the first time about 30 years ago (I started with v.4)
and I still want to use v.9 (only this error spoils the entire program). I
don't want to go back to old versions where this function works very well -
as described in the help "Main Window: File | Databases | QSL Managers"

I'm reporting the problem here on REFLECTOR because I don't know who should
fix this error.
Once again, I would like to ask the person who programmed v.9 DX4WIN to take
care of the problem and let me know when this error in v.9 will be fixed.

two virtual com ports set up with Com-0-Com. This has been working for many
years with one virtual port being used by DX4Win and the other by JTDX.Last
week the virtual port used by DX4Win stopped working (I get the re-try delay
and then the Radio timed out/ Radio interface disabled message) but the other
one used by JTDX still works correctly.

I had a third com port pair already set up for future use so tried that which
did not work either.

I have deleted the non-working pairs, did a restart, respecified the com port
pairs - did another restart, and that did not work either.

I have not made any changes to Win4Yaesu suite or DX4Win recently. It seem
very strange that one pair works as expected but the others don't.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

73,

Dave G3UEG

Hi Dima,

Maybe not what you are looking for but in Custom Awards

is the WAC included

you can run progress and make a listings

For unique calls I have no answer either

You can always export and remove dupes to make exact count

But what if you worked them on several bands ?

Hello Guy and the group !

In the past I was asking several questions about DX4WIN but never received a
reply. It seems incredible that no one has the answer! Maybe there are just
almost no readers here?

Anyhow I will try to repeat it again and maybe I am lucky this time :-) !

1. How to select and count unique callsigns based on selection criteria —
DXCC, State, WAZ etc., or just a total of uniques in the log?
2. There is no field ( box) for the continent in any of menu’s. Does it
mean that we can’t see our stats by continent at all? For example, in the case
of the USA — we can use a filter to sort by States in the Report editor. But
how to get info for the whole NA/SA/EU etc. in one step? Sure a set of
selections by zones is not what I’m looking for!

Thank you for your feedback ! Please don’t keep silence !

Re: [Dx4win] Control of QSO input fields for band and mode

2023-04-15 Thread ON4AOI via DX4WIN
Bob, you are correct concerning the dropdown list
This list want change but try the following and you will see the difference

Unmark 160M and 60M , save restart etc
Now type a new a qso in and type 1 in Band
Normally you would see 160M for the 1st band but it will be 17M that is on
the 1st place now
Same for 60M you want see 60M if unmarked but 6cm when you type 6 in
Same rules are for mode

Guy, thanks for your response. Yes, that is what I was expecting to
simplify the selections for QSO entry.

But so far it is not my experience

I was able to ADD 60m as I plan to add an antenna for that band and try it,
BUT even though the microwave bands were not checked in the
preferences/station tab they remain in the QSO entry window dropdown.

I wrote a new INI file, saved changes and the 33cm and higher bands are
still in the QSO menu for band even unchecked in preferences.

I also restarted the program to see if it had to reinitialize, still does
not help.

Similar results for the mode selections

With Microham devices it works perfect via the virtual ports

Re: [Dx4win] Problem since upgrade to W10/W11

2023-03-09 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Dave,
This is 100% not a windows problem but the order you start all programs.
I use Win4Icom and Com-0-Com also even via remote.
DX4WIN is based on delphi and needs exclusive serial port(s)
Startup Win4Yaesu with the radio connected and make sure the setup is perfect.
Make two pairs of Com-0-Com
The 1st pair should be for DX4WIN at max 38400 Baud even if your radio can go
higher.
Be sure that the rigdriver in dx4win has the same baudrate, if not then change
it.
The 2nd pair should be for WSJT-X also at max 38400 Baud.
If for any reason wsjtx build in rigdrivers are not perfect use omnirig v1.18
(this one works perfect newer have also glitches on some computers)
Start
WIN4YAESU
Wait until all is ready
Start
DX4WIN
If radio is connected
Then
Start
WSJT-X
Shutdown in reverse order
Can be setup in WIN4YAESU

Second option is if your radio has USB and also a SERIAL port
To setup the radio with via serial port to DX4WIN, but make sure
You use FTDI based USB to serial cable if no serial port is available
Most of the other usb2serial is crap.

Everything worked smoothly with W7. The problem started with a new W10
computer which very quickly updated itself to W11 without any input from me, so
I am not absolutely sure whether the problem existed in W10 as well as it being
a problem now with W11. It is a minor nuisance rather than a serious problem.

When I start DX4Win I get a box come up "ie-Open device already open" I click
OK then a second box comes up "Radio error number 1 Press help for details"
The help advises that the serial port is i use and to select a different port
or use another device. If I just close the second box DX4Win then starts
normally.

I use Win4Yaesu and Com-0-Com for rig control and virtual port sharing to
enable me to use both DX4Win and WSJT-X (or JTDX)

Any suggestions on a) how to cure this annoyance or b) what further digging I
can do to find the cause to help identify a cure?

Radio time out

And that as a background task it automatically reconnects when the CAT port

I don't know if it only happens to me, but it's very annoying and I think
there would be an easy solution in Code in case it couldn't be configured.

I've been away from home for a bit and would like to put this up again.
Here's the situation:

DX4Win doesn't seem to recognize my Icom 7610's frequency and mode, giving
me a "Radio timed out. Radio interface has been disabled" message. But N1MM+
and WSJT work just fine. And my second radio, an Icom 7600, also works just
fine when I select Radio 2 (the 7610 is radio 1). So it's something between
the 7610 and DX4Win. But what? Rebooting doesn't seem to make any
difference. I can go from N1MM+ to WSJT and back to N1MM+, so it doesn't
appear to be a port hogging issue.

If it didn't work with other software then I'd have some idea where to look.
I'm just not sure what, if anything, changed on my end. I've tried various
settings, carefully noting the changes I made, but still nothing.

Thanks to those who've offered suggestions, just thought I'd reup it. I'm
sure it's something silly or dumb, but I don't know how silly or how dumb.

Hello all!

Somehow DX4Win is no longer recognizing my Icom 7610, which it used to do
with no problem. Oddly, N1MM+ recognizes it just fine. Even more oddly, I
have an Icom 7600 as a second radio and DX4Win recognizes that one as well.

Here are my settings:

Type: ICOM 7610_500Hz-V7

Address: 98H

Baud: 9600

COM Port: COM5 (same as N1MM+)

Poll rate: 5000

DTR/RTS both NOT checked

I have similar settings for the Icom 7600 only 7AH for the address and COM3.
Works fine. So I'm stumped.

Any idea welcome. It must be something simple (and dumb, on my part).
Thanks!

Subject: [Dx4win] lotwreport from LoTW - missing extension

Hi

During the last week or so I can see that the lotwreport file downloaded
from https://lotw.arrl.org (Your QSOs -> Download Report) is now
automatically saved on my PC (normally the download folder with other
downloads). Earlier I should accept to save it.

However, the "lotwreport" file no longer has an extension. Earlier the
filename was "lotwreport.adi" now the filename is "lotwreport" with no
extension. Cause to that e.g. DX4WIN cannot fine the file to confirm LoTW
because DX4WIN does not know, that "lotwreport" is an ADIF file.

I have downloaded the same "lotwreport" file on a PC running Windows 10 and
on a PC running Windows 11, and both downloads missed the ".adi" (period
adi) part of the "lotwreport" file.

I reported this issue in the ARRL LoTW group and so far, one other has his
problem. A local Danish ham also have the same problem.

I have made some test to find the error:

1) from https://lotw.arrl.org I do no longer get the "save" box, that I got
earlier. It that a Windows issue?

2) I have in Windows 11 changed the Windows Explorer to "show extension" and
I still get the lotwreport without extension. I have made the same in
Windows 10 with the same result

Test download of lotwreport (same setup every time)

In Mozilla Firefox, version 102, 64 bit - no extension on the file
lotwreport

In Mozilla Firefox - same version, same PC - the logfile from Clublog.org
(right to my call) is downloaded with .adi extension

In Microsoft Edge - same file (same call, same date etc.) is downloaded as
lotwreport.adi = with extension

In Google Chrome - same file (same call, same date etc.) is downloaded as
lotwreport.adi = with extension

I have reset Mozilla Firefox but that did not help

I have looked in "regedit" in Windows database for lotwreport and found
nothing.

Does anyone has a clue to what is wrong - and where/how to fix it?

Hi guys.
I am quite active on QO100 since may, this year.
Uptoday i made some 230 QSO logging them with my DX4WIN.
I must say that I uploaded my log to LOTW and downloaded reports with
confirmations.
All is ok for me.
My experience is different of what has been advised by Guy.
I log my QSO100 QSO in this way:
Band: SAT
Mode: SSB Sub Mode SSB (or the mode performed) Sat name: QO-100 Sat
mode:Other.
My IC9700 is not cat controlled so Freq (khz) in the input qso window remain
blanck.
In this way I log my QSO and I receive confirmations via LOTW.
I do not manually edit the file that has to be upload to LOTW.

[Dx4win] QO-100 and dx4win

2021-07-31 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Joe,

I saw you have already uploaded Bo his QO-100 qso's on LoTW

the band seems to be ok and is corrected to SAT

But you didn't corrected the Receive band (marked in Red)

<>

All qso's can be set to QO-100 in DX4WIN

Sat mode need to be set to other now

I made a demo qso with BO here below (will work hime one of the following
days)

After you did export to LoTW you get the following

DX4WIN ADIF Export <http://www.dx4win.com> http://www.dx4win.com

DX4WIN

9.0.9.1260

20210731 075540 OX3LX 2400.80500

OX3 237 NA SSB QO-100

SAT 3cm 3cm 59 59

40 HP15eo NA-151 N

20210731 Y Y

20210731 Q OZ0J BO

Before you use TQSL

Open the adif with textpad or any other good editor and

Do a search and replace

3cm with 13CM

Now all QO-100 qso's will have correct RX and TX band

Afterwards TQSL and your done.

Concerning the labels I suggest the following (that's what I do)

Band is/was correct with SAT in it

Since BO will be active for +/- 14 days on QO-100

You can use the Greetings line in preferences|Rep/Lab

And fill something in like this

QSO via QO-100 13cm up / 3cm down

Re: [Dx4win] Reports On Two Computers Don't Match Using Same Log File

2021-07-28 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Bud,
this seems to be a different setting on the second computer
I run my backup on a DS220+ NAS with 2 x 4gb ssd in raid,
Never saw this behavior , every other PC loads at start the file from the
NAS and saves it locally not on the NAS.

I suggest to write a config file in the main computer
(if other screen setups make sure to handle like I wrote earlier today.)
And import these settings in the 2nd computer.

DX4WIN Reports on a second backup computer no longer match the DX4WIN copy
running on the station computer.

I keep the backup copy of DX4WIN on a second computer updated by copying the
Logfile to it from the station computer.

The backup version Reports show confirmed data but the station computer
properly shows them already checked.

Another example: The backup copy shows stations worked, but the station
computer version properly shows worked moved to labels (L).
The backup computer reports are not being updated using the updated log file
from the station computer.
I confirmed the backup computer has the latest Logfile in the Save directory
and DX4WIN is properly pointing to it.

How can there be a discontinuity between the two Reports when using the same
Logfile?

How can I continue to keep the Reports on the second backup DX4WIN copy in
sync with the station version?

I've been doing this for many years. It's just recently that this
discontinuity began.

Some DX4WIN windows are not there. I suspect they are off the screen

The copied DX4WIN file likely had DX4WIN windows locked in position.
How do I unlock the DX4WIN window positions so that I can see them on the

How do I fix this in DX4WIN? An incorrect setting?

I know Joe,
you posted it before but I can't link it to a valid mode in DX4WIN since RTTY
has already 2 possibilities
aka RTTY-L and RTTY-U , if somebody should work in AFSK RTTY then he can change
it in the rigfile
even with a txt editor.

[Dx4win] New rigfiles for FT-891_USB and FTDX10 USB available

2021-05-21 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,

Yesterday Paul and I made the Yaesu FT-891 via USB working @ VP8LP his setup,

Using whatsapp, teamviewer etc .

It was my fault that I didn’t noticed that Yaesu changed cmd’s and added extra
bytes that made it not working correct.

Like they say read the f….. manual first …. .. I didn’t .

FT-891 has now AM,FM,SSB,CW,RTTY and FT8 read/write

FTDX10 has AM,FM,SSB,CW,RTTY, PSK and FT8 read/write

For this rig DATA-LSB, DATA-FM and DATA-FM-Narrow can be added but can’t think
of any usable modes at the moment.

Jim will upload them on his page later today, if you can’t wait drop me an
email and I reply

It looks they (YAESU) didn't solve it yet and what is worse they wrote that
it's a 3th party error ??
But when you look in the CAT manual you see that the command for "MODE" =
MD(P1);
but that cmd disappeared in latest firmware update for FTDX101 .... ..

Hi,

I am using DX4WIN to create a meaningful QSO database for OH5Z contest
station for Clublog. Many of the old logs are gone therefore I need to
download some of the QSO data from LOTW. Problem arises with the SSB QSO's
uploaded to LOTW as "PHONE" back in 2007-2008. LOTW recognizes the PHONE
mode QSO's and gives credit on them but problem is that DX4WIN doesn't have
PHONE mode in it. When imported from LOTW the "PHONE" QSO's are set to be
CW. I can easily recognize and change the mode to SSB but the problem is
that LOTW confirmation import doesn't recognize them anymore and flags them
as "QSOs not found". How should I handle this?

The two CAT ports for microHAM "keyers" (microHAM USB Device Router) must be
set to the same rate. The maximum baud rate supported by microHAM is 57,600
bps (TenTec Orion/Orion II/Omni VII).

If one needs waterfall/panadapter data from the transceiver (Icom), use the
transceiver USB connection for waterfall/panadapter and the CI-V connection
for the microHAM keyer (CAT connection). Details are in the "Transceiver
Settings" section of the Support area at www.microHAM.com.

[Dx4win] Rigfiles, rigfiles and more about rigfiles

2021-04-21 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,

Before some start to argue about rigdrivers that doesn't work when you use

the USB connection with DX4WIN is "BULLSHIT"

It works perfect when you use the correct settings.

I have made so many drivers even that I don't own all the rigs.

First of all read this document and follow the procedure:

https://www.kkn.net/~n6tv/N6TV_Dayton_2020_Everything_USB.pdf

Kenwood, Yaesu and Icom (nearly all ways) installs 2 serial ports.

You need to use the correct one for CAT communication check your manual how
to.

In your Radio setup @ DX4WIN you will see that the max baudrate is

38400 for Yaesu,

19200 for Icom, limit by icom

57600 for Kenwood

Let me assure you that for the data we need 38400 baud is already overkill.

So if you use only USB connection set the baudrate for this port also on
what you see in DX4WIN

Higher want work..

The reason there USB serial ports are set to 115200 is when you use the
waterfall via there programs

Then you need that speed.

How about wsjt-x you may wonder how to fix that.

Or you have or buy a microHAM device that creates 2 CAT ports and can use
one @ 38400 baud for dx4win and the other @ 115200 baud for wsjtx

Or you also connect the serial port from the rig (if still available) to
your computer you can use this one for Dx4win and use the USB for WSJTX.

In the meantime I wrote also the FTDX10 rig file for test, if anyone needs
for test pse ask for it

Hi Radi,

The .INI file was/is in plain text format, as is config.txt

I believe for version 9, Paul wanted to avoid non-standard file extensions.
For example, the custom awards file is no longer named DX4WIN.AWD but instead
is named custawds.dat. In other words, text files use the .TXT extension,
while non-text (i.e. binary) files use the .DAT extension.

Of course, that makes it a little more difficult to use some of the files,
particularly the saved configuration, between different versions of DX4WIN.
But on the other hand, it makes it easier for the user to look at and/or modify
a .TXT file because Windows will open these it using Notepad as the default
editor. Windows might open a different application for a .INI file.

I hope this answers your question.

Didn’t there used to be a cut off date for QSLs? I seem to remember seeing
that, once upon a time. If you had sent a card and it wasn’t answered for
(user selectable time), that QSO would revert from “Mailed” to either “Worked”
or just to needed. Did dx4win previously have such a feature, or am I
confusing it with something else?

Re: [Dx4win] CW cut off frequency

2021-02-25 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Henrik,
CW frequency cutoff is available in preferences and can be set to your
needs, then SSB starts
Digital is not possible because there is no specific allocation for it.
Example 20M - 14000 <> 14150 = CW, 14150 <>14350 = SSB
+/- in the middle of CW are all the digital modes, if someone starts cqing
in CW on 14074
He can't be flamed because he is not doing something wrong. Everybody
accepted digital
Mode between +/- 14070 and 14100 but it is no rule, check it out when there
is a major contest.

Re: [Dx4win] HF GRIDS

2021-02-23 Thread ON4AOI
Peter,
can you be a little more specific what you really need ?
is it by band ?

from the helpfile

Pattern Matches

HD Matches HD but not KK4HD

KK?HDMatches KK4HD (and also KK5HD etc)

AB* Begins with AB (matches ABCD but not CDAB)

*AB AB at the end (matches CDAB but not BCDE)

*AB* AB anywhere

!AB Does not match AB (matches CDEF but not ABCD)

!*AB Does not contain AB (matches BCDE but not CDAB)

*Has any text in it (more useful for notes, states, counties
etc.

!* Has no text; the field is empty

In your case I suggest
F8 move to Grid field and type * in that field, push enter and all qso's
Will be displayed that have a grid filled in.

2021-02-23 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Steve,
Probably your config.dat is corrupted, I would suggest that you delete or at
least rename this file in your dx4win/save directory
The message about the lpt ports means that you didn't install this driver,
the name is what it is but the driver is also needed for serial
Communications (cat etc) this driver can be found in your dx4win/drivers
directory. Install this and reboot PC.
After that start DX4WIN, It will start like a brand new installed dx4win
version.
All your settings will be lost but you can import your previous settings if
you wrote the configuration under file|preferences|file

[Dx4win] Looking for ICOM IC-705 USB rigdriver tester

2021-02-11 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,

Looking for someone with a Icom IC-705 that is willing to test out a new
Rigdriver Via USB connected

And following my procedure how to setup.

Since I don't have one I can't test.

Created yesterday IC9700 - USB (that also will be ok for IC9100) when you
are not in SATMODE

This due bullshit cmd from Icom (again) for this reason I have the standard
IC9700 driver that is used in

Radio via CI-V connection.

Created today IC7610 - USB and has been tested by Jim AD1C at 3AM (guess he
never sleep) and Radi F6GNZ both with succes

Your computer

Following needs to be checked before you start in Device manager

ICOM creates 2 Siliconlabs CP210x comports and they should be left at 115200
baud

BUT you need to be sure that you select the standard comportport,

This can be checked in the Properties | Details| there go to Property and
select Location paths

On top line the last number after USB should be (1)

ICOM IC705 Menu

In Radio | menu | connectors | CIV |

USB/LAN REMOTE Tranceive Address make this also A4h (=equal like CI-V
address)

CI-V USB port should be Unlinked from Remote

CI-V USB Baud Rate = 57600

CI-V USB Echo Back = ON

In DX4WIN | Prefences | Radio

Select now IC 705 - USB

Address should become 4A and Baud Rate 57600

Comport is the standard CP210x (see above)

Poll Rate is set here 1000 ms and Max tries 2

DTR and RTS are not ON

Save changes and exit

115200 is not possible in DX4WIN, But everything above 38400 is waste of
traffic

if you don't need the waterfall on screen since DX4WIN doesn't have that it
doesn't matter

show as worked but no confirmations show on clublog as confirmed. It appears
that the ADIF file doesn't change when I change the lotw confirmation from N

[Dx4win] FW: DX4WIN + WSJT-X COM Port Control

2021-02-05 Thread ON4AOI
PICTURE Deleted to big
Can be asked for via email

Hi Mark and others,
Depending on your transceiver it can work via different ways.

First option is like Jim AD1C suggested via a microHAM device that can
control 1 radio via 2 CAT ports I have several of these devices for 15-20
years now and they never failed.

There are also software programs that can split the comport into several
users (dx4win-wsjtx) but its bulletproof Like the above solution.

3th possibility is for newer transceivers that have comport or CIV and also
USB (-comport).
Attached is a picture of a demo setup. In this case I have 3 cat controls to
1 radio The radio is a ICOM IC-9700 that has a CIV port and also 2 USB
ports.
CIV port goes to my Microkeyer 3 and splits the radio into Com5 and Com6 Com
5 = CwSkimmer Com 6 = DX4WIN v9.xx

If you don't have a Microham device you still can attach a CIV to serial
device (USB) And configure this serialport in DX4WIN

For WSJT-X I use the USB connection that gives 2 serial ports Com20 and
Com21 (in my setup) WSJTX is connected via COM20 and works like a charm
together with DX4WIN at the same time.

I have used DX4WIN for many years. I use WSJT-X for FT8.

I want both programs to have simultaneous full access to my transceiver
through the one COM port that is used for data transfer and control of the
transceiver.

I have tried many port sharing and port splitting software programs without
success. The two programs work for a few minutes, but when one of the
programs polls the port, the other program loses connection to the port.

Has anyone found a way to do what I want to accomplish?

I have been advised that Ham Radio Deluxe has the desired capability, but I
don't want to switch from DX4WIN to HRD.

Tnx & 73,

2020-11-16 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,

After some brainstorming Paul gave me a hint how to modify the rigfile for
"Kenwood" users.
Only a few things needs to be modified with a texteditor if you don't know
how to do it in DX4WIN rig editor
The instructions will be in PDF on Jim his dedicated DX4WIN pages with also
the new KENWOOD TS-890S V2 rigfile.
Pse if you have modified for another KENWOOD radio send it also to Jim -
Paul and myself so it can be distributed via updates

I can send also the pdf if you like it, just drop me a email.

[Dx4win] ON4UN SK

2020-11-10 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,

With great sadness I have to announce that ON4UN has passed away,

John was a mentor and DX4WIN user since early days.

Here below you find a note from his daughter

RIP John

Guy ON4AOI

Dear amateur radio friends

It is with sadness, but also gratitude and pride, I have to let you know my
father John ON4UN, has become silent key.

John's health has steadily deteriorated throughout the year, but in the last
few weeks he was home with us where he peacefully passed away yesterday
November 9.

Ham Radio, and especially Low Band DX-ing, were my father's lifelong passion
and always had a strong presence in our house. Sometimes literally, when
many of you paid us a visit or a group of DX'ers came over for a weekend of
contesting. At other times in the background, when my dad was working on a
project or experimenting with new equipment or antennas.

Though I don't have a call-sign, I very much feel part of the big radio
family and always will. I am very proud of everything my father has
accomplished together with you, and I am grateful to the many of you who
have given him so much joy over the years. We will miss him dearly, but we
take comfort looking back on the beautiful life he lived as a member of the
wonderful Ham Radio community.

We are planning a digital farewell ceremony on Saturday Nov 21st and will
keep you updated on practicalities.

If you would like to send us a message please mail to on4un...@gmail.com -
John's old e-mail account is not in use anymore.

In the meantime, you can pay him a visit at QRZ.com where he always kept his
resume up to date.

Hi Folks,
I wonder if the lotwreport.notfound works. Due to potential sync issues, I
just downloaded my entire LotW confirmed data base. I then imported it and got
a few hundred contacts in the not found file marked with X or C. However, I
have now checked about 100 of these and they are all in the log. Also, when I
check with DX4Win tool I see no red lined fields from these QSO's.Anyone
else have any issues with this feature or am I using it all wrong?

Thanks Bill-K5ZQ

This is probably caused by automatic uploads
and a lot of new LoTW users due Covid-19
Lockdown submitting all their logs now.
The only way to solve this is by closing down the upload server

Are they planning to solve the problem ?

Re: [Dx4win] CW Skimmer with DX4WIN ??

2020-04-19 Thread ON4AOI
Radi,
This has been working for decades here without any problems.
BUT
You need to have a interface from microKEYER like DXP-MKII-MKIII- MK2R+, USBII
etc
In the Device router software you can set for example com1 to your radio (CAT).
and also com2 to your rig (2nd CAT).
In dx4win you can select com1 or com2 for your rig and in CW Skimmer also
But they should not be equal in both programs,
DX4WIN = com1, CWskimmer = com2
Or
DX4WIN = com2, CWskimmer = com1
Ft1000mp I had long time ago and can confirm that it worked this way also.

Btw over the years I tried out many different software serial splitters, serial
bridges etc
But didn't found any that was 100% fool prove working.

Hi, Has anybody ever been successful on controlling the FT1000MP or other rig
with DX4WIN and CW Skimmer??
Both applications can not share the same Rig comport.
If DX4WIN could support OmniRig, it would be easy. LP PAN 1/2 doesn't support
FT1000MP, so had anybody found a solution?

Hi all,

Windows 10 decided to do an update yesterday. After that DX4win wasn't
working any more. Lots of errors missing file and so on.
So I did a new install of DX4WIN and all works again, I do have my log ok.
The inly thing that goes wrong is that 3D2 Fiji is suddenly at 187 degrees
and only 7791 km away.

3D2/R Rotuma is still at 14 degrees and over 15000km away, what is right.

What is wrong with the mapping of Fiji?

Dick and all,
I could be wrong but this has nothing to do with the windows update
But probably something in the CTY file that is not correct for 3D2

I have tested on win10 computer that has not updated in a very long time
because I don't allow it
And have also Fiji on 185 deg and 7.633 km in my case

Jim will look at this when he sees this post later today

Firstly let's hope Paul is safe.

But this is not the first time that the question has been asked of updates, so
F6EXV right to ask again.

I have been a user / supporter for some 20+ years now, even though I'm not so
active other than contests, or I never have used new data modes, I follow with
interest the comments. I also compare features that I see in my contest logging
software, with that of DX4WIN.

I think the last paid software upgrade was a small tinker round the edges, but
what is telling to me is some visual functionality was lost, namely support of
skins. I am pretty sure that the original team was more than just Paul; it is
possible that he doesn't have the capability for major upgrades ?

Last point, and a surprise in store for me - ZL2IFB made a comparison
spreadsheet a while ago, which is still available for downloading and
contributing if you so desire ( try G4IFB.com , under Logger32, which was his
choice of programme). So I just downloaded it to my tablet, and scored DX4WIN.
He scored Logger32 as 75%; I scored DX4WIN as 70%, so maybe there are no
great gains to be had ? Needs looking at later.

Luc and all other,
there could be some other reason that we don't hear from Paul with this
covid-19 situation.
I have been always in contact with Paul since version 1.02 via phone and other
technology
But didn't hear from him anymore since 31-03-2020 so lets hope nothing else is
going on.

Maybe I am old school but automatic uploads isn't a top priority since you can
do it
with a few click, importing from wsjt(-x) can be done also very easy off line.
My point is are we still radioamateurs or just users that only depend on a
computer?
Every qso I make in FT8 or JT65 mode I type in myself and then I am sure the
details
Are correct in my log.
Why you may ask.
I made a lot of rigfiles where only standard modes can be used/selected not all
the new modes
That grow every day, infact these all count for Digital mode. If for example
dx4win receive
mode = 1 then depending on the rigfile it know that the mode is USB. If it
receive mode = 0
then it know it is LSB but if it receive mode = 5 (USB-D or data) then how it
has to know it is FT8
and not JT65 with submode JT65b? At that moment the program needs to act
different
and depend on a "txt" that comes in and not on a value
In my opinion this is not done in 123 to make it fool prove.

My 2 cents

For me the DX4WIN is one of the best logbook I have used.
I have been using it for many years and it meets my expectations.

But I also understand the colleagues who ask for some improvement, according to
the new technologies applied to radio.

I think Paul's silence does not help in this debate, perhaps if Paul indicates
the reasons why he does not make these updates, many of us might understand it,
but as I say, his silence does not help.

What if I am clear, that for me is one of the best Logbook, I have used it for
many years, and what I have for sure, is that I will continue using it.

Re: [Dx4win] Developments

2020-04-10 Thread ON4AOI

Greetings to all.

Paul,
My point of view is that
all these automatic uploads leads to many errors
and unneeded internet traffic.

check eQSL where I get every week claims for qso's
with wrong band, wrong time etc even fake qso's are
there now and then.
I prefer the way it is now, after I overlooked my log I upload.

I have a total of 3711 bandslots with deleted (160M<>13cm) on clublog
and 3662 without deleted, if you check clublog on all bands my Ranking = Nr
1
Also on WAZ my Ranking is 1st place, I have 11 bands WAS and only 2 more on
6M to have 12 bands WAS
I couldn't have done it without DX4WIN that is sure

It is VERY sad that we are getting no information, no reply whatsoever on

DX4Win is getting old compared to competition, some of it free of charge.

[Dx4win] ICOM 9700 Rig File

2020-02-08 Thread ON4AOI
Hi All,
I just created a new rigfile for the Icom IC-9700
I will send this file to Jim so he can put in on his webpage.
This one works ok via CI-V to RS232 (level)converter.
Via USB (CP210x drivers) it doesn't work (yet) here
So will investigate why. I presume I know the answer
but not sure.

Pse contact me off the reflector If you have a rig
(no matter what brand) that is working with Dx4win
and ONLY is connected via a USB port.

Re: [Dx4win] Updates

2020-01-12 Thread ON4AOI
Hi Paul,
I explain some more,
All the programs are starting from WSJT-X (author K1JT) open source and
Make different screens etc. BUT they all use the same HAMLIB rigfiles.
For instance Yaesu FT-817ND - FT857 - FT897 are not working with these hamlib
rigfiles
After I complained so many times they finally will look into it deeper.

Check WSJT-X webpage also problems

   Release: WSJT-X 2.1.2
 November 26, 2019
   -

WSJT-X 2.1.2 is a bug fix only release which fixes a major regression
in the Hamlib package bundled with WSJT-X v2.1.1.

This was for ICOM radio problems

   Release: WSJT-X 2.1.1
 November 25, 2019
   -

WSJT-X 2.1.1 is a bug fix only release addressing regressions in the
prior v2.1.0 release.

All new radio's are not direct compatible with these third party hamlib files
so can't work either

This is my point Paul, when you have a rig that works with these hamlib files
it's ok.
But when it doesn't work and have to wait until they fix it or make a driver
for it
You have a problem, If Radio is not connected it can broadcast wrong data to
DX4WIN.
At this point it's your own mistake and you can correct b4 upload.
But If it gets automatically uploaded on LoTW etc some could or will write
this garbage is sended out by DX4WIN users ..

Hi Guy, Hi all
I am not a specialist, but what is the problem when the FT8 (to make it
short) programs get the frequency from the rig (therefore is correct), logs it
into the adif file that everyboidy knows about, and DX4Win can "eat" that
informlation automatically ?
I see no room for mistakes...
Well, I must admit I see no way how you can make a mistake using ythose
programs and call o the wrong period, like several people have done. If yoy
doucble-click on the station you want to call, there is no way you can do a
mistake,... Anyway, this is another matter...
Which other programs do not have the UDP broadcast ? Anyone here using them ?
Or just the 3 you mentioned ?

If people's logs have mistakes, whether they auto-upload or they upload later,
they will both carry the error

My 3 cents !

2020-01-12 Thread ON4AOI
Paul (F6EXV) and others HNY 2020,
Concerning your wish list I have some serious doubts if this be a full idiot
prove upgrade.
With the option "Enable logged contact ADIF broadcast" Paul, I should write
the program"DX4WIN" can listen
to the UDP broadcasts when using the latest versions of WSJT-X - MHSV - JTDX
and log that contact.
- But what about WSJT or other programs without this option that users may
use ?
- These programs depend on Hamlib radiofiles and I know 100% sure there are
Rigs that are not supported
or give errors all the time.
- In this case you have to disable your rig and use the program like it is
except for fox-hunt it will work ok,
but when you change bands and forget to change to the correct band your log
will be incorrect.
That's why I have been always against auto upload to LoTW-eQSL-Clublog

"IF" Auto upload to LoTW- eQSL - Clublog would be a fact
"THEN" it will create so much garbage and keeping those servers busy all
the time
like It is already with eQSL.
Daily I get wrong eQSL's in my inbox, most of the time its wrong band or
mode

My point is that grabbing broadcasts from the UDP server and log it would be
a nice feature
but
Never auto upload like some other programs do and create massive garbage.

Manually creating LoTW etc uploads doesn't consume that much time and in
case something is wrong
With your log you normally will see it b4 you upload.

My 2 cents

Can we caress the hope of having next release to allow dX4Win to
interoperate with WSJT/JTDX for direct logging, automatic upload to ClubLog,

LoTW/ aand Clublog operation has an application that works well with other

I hope to get an answer, as many users I am sure would love thse to be

Paul nothing specific should be in handshake since this is only for ARSWIN
needed
You can test the rotator with the program that Prosistel provided
Then you know it still works.
Under rotator next to reports in the main display of dx4win you need to set the
parameters also

Check first if you get com1 and com2 working again in Windows10
Best to check with a break outbox if they are still ok.

Do not known if these coms are real RS232 ports with hardware
or USB to serial connectors, in the last case it is possible that you
have Chinese clones. Windows software updates installs the original
producent his drivers and when that driver recognize a clone they
make sure it doesn't work anymore with the (new) latest driver.

Re: [Dx4win] DX cluser FT8 and other modes/bands

2018-09-09 Thread ON4AOI
Joe this can be easy done
But don't know if you will be happy with the results

Close DX4WIN
First thing you need to edit is clusters.txt

Add second VE7CC with port 7400
VE7CC-1>Whonnock-BC,ve7cc.net
VE7CC-1>Whonnock-BC,ve7cc.net:7400

Restart DX4WIN
Go to Preferences : RTTY Tab
Type = regular
COM port = TCP/IP
And Mark Check for DX spots

RTTY windows shows up now
Right click
Select the second cluster with port 7400
When you are connected type
SET/SKIMMER

Now all FT8 spots get in via this connection and the others via 1st cluster

There is no autoconnect now so you have to do it everytime

But I think you will be happy with that
I have 3615 bandslots (160M-13cm) so all remains most of the time green or
are ignored
But at a rate of 75000 FT8 spots an hour you will miss more when you still
need a lot of bandslots/modes

I have tested that part and it works. However, port 7400 does only shop
FT8 spots, not other modes.

Is there a solution of how to DX psots for all modes including FT8?

Re: [Dx4win] Simple LOTW Search

2018-03-27 Thread ON4AOI
David,
There is already a memberlist in the DX Spots window (you can setup what you
are looking for standard it shows LoTW, Eqsl etc),
this is updated very often and you can see if the station is Lotw, eqsl or
something else.
This works for every user of DX4WIN since version 8.xx, your way around is
not a bad idea
but for those that don't pay for the XML version It has no use.

Subject: [Dx4win] Simple LOTW Search

The ARRL makes available a list of all LOTW users, along with the date of
their last upload. I wrote a simple batch file to search the list and
display the results in DX4WIN when the F3 key is pressed. I thought some of
you might find this useful.

1. Download the LOTW User Activity report from:
https://lotw.arrl.org/lotw-user-activity.csv and save it in a directory
accessible to DX4WIN. I put mine in a subdirectory of the DX4WIN SAVE
directory I called SEARCH.

2. Create a batch file with Notepad containing the text below and put it in
the same directory where you saved the activity report. I called my batch
file SEARCH.BAT.

@echo off
set call=%1
set result=Not Found
for /f "tokens=1-3 delims=," %%a in (lotw-user-activity.csv) do ( if /i
"%%a"=="%call%" set result=%%b
 )
echo %call% %result%

3. In DX4WIN Preferences, enable the QSL Manager Search (.exe) check box on
the External Data panel and fill in the edit box with the path to your batch
file. I have mine set to C:\DX4W903\SAVE\SEARCH\SEARCH.BAT. You will get an
error when you press F3 if the path is incorrect.

You can add other searches to your batch file using something like the
Windows FINDSTR or a GREP implementation. I have used this method to search
member and bureau lists in the past.

Here is an example of the output generated by the F3 key. The first part is
from the QRZ XML service and only the last two lines pertain to the search
batch file.

W1AW
ARRL HQ OPERATORS CLUB
225 MAIN ST
NEWINGTON, CT 06111
United States
QSL Info: US STATIONS PLEASE QSL VIA LOTW OR DIRECT WITH SASE.
State: CT
County: Hartford
GRID: FN31pr
QSL info from: C:\DX4W903\SAVE\SEARCH\SEARCH.BAT W1AW 2018-03-09

The date is replaced with "Not Found" if the station is not found in the
activity report. I don't think you will have any problem with these
instructions. As always, I can't be responsible if anything bad happens.

Subject: [Dx4win] Make it easier to find/import your WSJT-X logs using a
symbolic link

I got tired of navigating to the WSJT-X directory every time I wanted to
import my WSJT-X log into DX4WIN. Fortunately, Windows 10 has a solution.
The idea is to create a symbolic link in your SAVE directory that points to
the WSJT-X log directory. The full instructions for creating symbolic links
are here:

https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symli
nks-on-windows-or-linux/

Here's the quick start:

1. Start by opening a Command Prompt in Administrator mode. From the Start
menu, find "Windows System" and right-click on "Command Prompt'.
Follow the "More" link and then click "Run as Administrator".

2. Determine the location of your WSJT-X log directory. Here is one way:

cd %localappdata%
C:
dir

You should see a WSJT-X directory there. The full path should look
something like this:

C:\Users\jjrei\AppData\Local\WSJT-X

3. Now determine the location of your DX4WIN SAVE directory. Mine is here:

E:\dx4w903\save

4. "cd" into your DX4WIN save directory:

cd E:\dx4w903\save
E:

5. Finally, create the link. Here is the command I used:

E:\dx4w903\save> mklink /D WSJT-X C:\Users\jjrei\AppData\Local\WSJT-X

(do not type the part *before* the >, only the part beginning with
"mklink"

That's all there is to it. The next time you want to import using "File |
Import", you will see the WSJT-X link in your SAVE directory.
Double-click on that link, and you'll find your WSJT-X ADIF file there.

This is not limited to WSJT-X, you can create links to anything you want.

That is NOT true. Just log them. I have several in the log. Prefix field
is blank, but you can enter the QSOs and save the log. Once I release a new
country file, they will automatically be credited with the correct DXCC
prefix.

The DATA mode(s) are in a different byte of the command response than the
main modes (CW, SSB etc.). Maybe Guy ON4AOI will have an idea.
