Re: [Dx4win] Packet settings

2022-12-29 Thread Joe
Hi David,
Thanks for the quick response. Sorry I've taken so long, but I was away a
couple of days.
The fields are still blank and I can't enter anything into them, but I'm
able to connect to all my usual clusters including K1EU (local) and K1TTT.
It's still a puzzle, but as long as it works...
Happy Holidays es 73,
Joe. K1JB

Hi Joe,

I no longer have 8.05 so the info here is from version 9, but it should be
similar. The only settings that matter on the Packet1 tab would be Type set
to "Normal" and COM port set to TCP/IP.

The fact that you can connect to some clusters and not other is possibly an
Internet issue. Can you give a couple of examples of clusters that you can
connected to and some that you can't? Can you try connecting to K1TTT, which
I know is up and running right now.

Greetings and Merry Christmas.

Everything worked well earlier today, but just now when I tried to get
packet spots DX4WIN, version 8.05, nothing happened. I looked at
Preferences (I'm at User Level-Expert, but sure don't feel like one) and
found all the Packet Setup Parameters blank. For example, the Type window is
blank. If I click on the arrow inside the window it shows a choice of None
or Regular. If I click on either, the choices disappear, but the Type
window is still blank. The same is true of the COM Port, Baud Rate, Flow,
Data/Parity, etc. All these had entries before but are now blank.

To make it more confusing, I could still connect to a distant server, but
couldn't connect to any in New England.

Firefox, email, and packet spots on N1MM+ Logger are all working OK.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks es 73.

Re: [Dx4win] Packet Connection

2022-07-31 Thread abwltrs
Hello Jim,

Thank you. K2CAN and AB5E both work; couldn't find W0MU. Now here is what I
did after my previous post.

I feared that my original configuration file became corrupted. So I removed
C:\dx4w903 and downloaded a fresh install.
Then I dropped my license into the dx4w folder, my log files into the Save
folder, and manually reconstructed the configuration file from scratch.
Then I saved and then loaded the new configuration file and launched the
program, opened and arranged the windows, then opened the band map. Success!
With this I followed your directions and am online with AB5E.

I still don't know why I can connect to K5TX using N1MM and not DX4W. But all
works as it should, posts appear in the band map and my radio follows when a
post is clicked. I am not about to quarrel with success nor question how or
why.

Thanks so much for your reply and help.

73,

Al Walters - K5NOF

Don't select Local Host.

The list has many bad entries (nodes that no longer exist).

Try W0MU, K2CAN and/or AB5E. I know they work, I am connected to them now.

Re: [Dx4win] Packet Window gone...

2019-10-26 Thread Paul van der Eijk
Luis,

If the laptop has a smaller screen than the main computer, that window may
be off
the screen.

To get around this, save the configuration as a text file,
(File | Preferences | File | Write configuration file)

Use Notepad to edit this file

Near the end of the file, look for [W-SPOT] and set the
values for LEFT=0 and TOP=0

Save the file and use it to load the configuration from a text file
(File | Preferences | File | Load configuration file)

The packet window should be visible now

I'd try connecting to another Cluster address. That happens to my favorite
Cluster from time to time.when they are down. I just go to another
cluster in the listbingoproblem solved. Later when my
favorite/local cluster comes back up, I'll connect to it again. It's most
likely your favorite cluster is simply down right now.

You can edit the list by going into the cluster file in the SAVE
folder. It's a .txt fill. I put my favorites at the top of the
listand then all of the others below. You could even delete the
ones you never use. Or even make a backup file with all of them, while
the file you actually use could only have the few you use all the
time. You can always go back to the backup file...and often the
cluster list fille gets updated anyway.

Related, you can go into preferencs and set the cluster you want to
automatically connect to every time at startup.

Re: [Dx4win] Packet Filtering

2017-10-14 Thread John Warburton G4IRN

Thanks for the off-reflector replies to this query.

I have come to the conclusion that I cannot do what I want to do. The DX
Alerts parameter relates to voice alerts and the 'ignore grey and black
spots' simply ignores P8 and P9 spots. Indeed, if you change the colour
of these, they are still ignored!  So at best, it is badly labelled.

It would be nice to filter out unwanted spots though!

Re: [Dx4win] Packet Filtering

2017-10-13 Thread Dan Violette
Don't see a reply yet. I am not the best to answer since I let everything
through, but some things I do know:

DX Alerts are the audible notices. This allows you to specify what you want
announced (voice, alarm, etc,)
Ignore Gray/Black I think is the highest level you can go to block.

I do not think this would work, but, have you tried setting the color for
the items you do not want to see to black? Maybe you only want level 1, 2,
3 then set 4+ to black (or gray). Pay careful attention to what each level
does. I think there is some overlap. I want new bands and modes for each
DXCC and level 6 is more important to me than 4 & 5. I pay attention to all
background highlighted spots. That is if I have kept the default spot
colors where levels 1, 2, 3 & 6 are highlighted. I may have done that
myself (forget since have had Ver 8 since it first came out years ago).

It can't be done.

Once your "preferred" node is at the top of the list, when starting
DX4WIN, in the Packet Window, type the Enter key three times. This
should get you through all the windows and connect.

Re: [Dx4win] Packet Cluster Connection via Function Key problem

2015-09-18 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
I recommend using AutoHotKey (http://www.autohotkey.com/) which you can
use to do the automatic connection and more.

I have an AHK macro key that fires up my ham "workstation", which opens
Dx4Win and starts the cluster connection, and opens up a couple of other
useful programs at the same time. For something simple like that, you
invest maybe 30 minutes to learn enough about AHK to do what you need to
do, set it up, and forget about it.

Hi Jim, yes it was off screen and thank you. The box was checked all along

So your clue that it could be off screen was the right direction.

From you message below: Don't forget not to update with Jim's program this
file.

If you put the -tcp=local.tcp switch where local.tcp can be any file
name, it will prepend this file during update to the DX4WIN.tcp. I have a
few TCP addresses I like always at the top and this puts them there at the
update time.

Read the whole help page on the updater. Quite powerful when you get it
set-up the way you want it.

I use the local connection (to VE7CC). Is there a way to move this

Is there an option to clear, automatically, all the old spots when

Yes, there is no auto-login. However, once you have chosen a node,
the next time you start DX4WIN, move the mouse pointer into the the
Packet Spots window, then type the ENTER key three times. The first
time it says there's no connection. The second time brings up node

you should get your node login prompt in the Packet Spots window.

I had wondered the same question.. Just one follow-up.

I use the local connection (to VE7CC). Is there a way to
move this to the top of the list (currently 5th) so I can use
   the 3 x ENTER process.

Is there an option to clear, automatically, all the old spots
when starting a new session. If not this would be a useful
 option.

Re: [Dx4win] packet questios new user

2012-02-27 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
Unfortunately, there's no auto-login feature built into DX4WIN. However,
you can make things easier by using this technique: After starting
DX4WIN, click anywhere on the packet window, then press Enter. You'll
get a little popup that says No connection active. Press enter again
and you'll get the list of available packet clusters. The most recently
used one will be on top (at least in recent versions.) Press enter one
more time and you'll be connected. At that point, you do have to type in
a callsign, though you can also program it onto one of the function keys
which might save a little time.

As for seeing the spotter's callsign, try making the DX spots window
wider (or adjust the size of some of the other columns by positioning
the cursor over the | at the top and dragging) and you'll see the
Spotter column, it's the second from the end on the right.

The spotter callsign is a column in the DX Spots window. If you don't
see the spotter callsign, maybe your DX Spots window needs to be
widened (just like any other Windows window, pull the right-hand
margin to the right). When you exit DX4WIN and restart, the window
should return to the size you set it to.

Once you get things set up the way you like it, export your
preferences to a .INI file. File | Preferences then File | Write INI
file. Default name is DX4WIN, that's fine. It will be stored in your
SAVE directory.

 What I want is:

To receive spots only from the US and Canada
To receive DX spots only from surrounding states (I live in Georgia)
To receive DX spots only for the bands and modes for which I'm active
To receive DX spots only for the ARRL entities that I need; that is, those

After you sign on to a cluster in DX4WIN, you can send the cluster commands
to the cluster and it will remember them. If you use more than one cluster,
just send the commands to each.

All spots incoming real-time are processed through the filters just fine; I
only see the ones I want.

Here's my question. Even after you've established your filters on a cluster,
typing show/dx ignores your filters and shows the most recent spots. Is
there a command that will show/dx through my filters?

If not it seems a very strange omission from the command structure.

It sounds like the packet filters defined on the Packet 2 tab of your

Does DX4WIN support this in its packet spot window? If so how do I get it to

Hi George,

First, it depends on what cluster node you are connected to, what
software that node is running (i.e. AR-Cluster, DX Spider, etc.) and
whether your user profile has the spotters's state turned on or off.

Given all that, if the state appears to the RIGHT of the GMT field in
a packet spot, then it should show up in the Packet Spots window
assuming you have made the window wide enough. It will NOT show up in
the DX spots window, since there is no field or column to put it in.

If the state appears to the LEFT of the GMT field, then it may show up
in the DX spots window at the far right of the Remarks column,
assuming that column is wide enough to display the full comment. To
widen it, grab the vertical line between Remarks and Spotter in
the gray header and drag it to the right.

Just a suggestion Steve. As you have to re-arrange windows to take
advantage of the new bandmap. If screen real-estate is tight you can
minimize the packet window after you connect since all the useful data
appears in the Spot or Announcement window. That's what I do here.

Yes, I realize I can resize the window to have the entire spot fit on one

Re: [Dx4win] Packet window formatting

2009-08-16 Thread N3SL

As one might expect, this was cockpit error. On version 7, I had part of
the world map window covering the scroll bars on the packet window, so
thinking the packet window in version 8 was the same size was wrong.
Everything works in v8 as it was in v7. Sorry for the bandwidth, and thanks
especially to Jim for coming in where my brain cells no longer tread

Just a suggestion Steve. As you have to re-arrange windows to take
advantage of the new bandmap. If screen real-estate is tight you can
minimize the packet window after you connect since all the useful data
appears in the Spot or Announcement window. That's what I do here.

For several versions now, I've had my DX4W windows arranged and sized
the
same. WIth v8, the display of incoming spots (telnet) in the packet
window
now is causing a line-wrap for every spot because of spacing/formatting.

Yes, I realize I can resize the window to have the entire spot fit on
one
line. But, this is a change to something somewhere in the new version.

I've played with the settings on the Packet 2 tab in preferences to
no
avail - and I think those are for incoming formats anyway. I just need
to
shrink/delete all the white-space that seems to be there with the new
version.

 Thanks for any pointers

Re: [Dx4win] Packet window formatting

2009-08-15 Thread Jim Reisert AD1C
Hi Steve,

The Packet Window did not change in V8. Did you import your
preferences (via .INI file) from V7 to V8? My Packet Window looks
exactly the same in V7 and V8.

Maybe the cluster node you're connecting to is sending out a wider
format. You can set SET/WIDTH to narrow it.

Sounds like it might be your ISP or the node you're trying to connect to.

You might consider using the VE7CC AR/CC User program from
http://ve7cc.net. It will do automatic re-connects if the connection is
lost, then backfill the missing spots.

Re: [Dx4win] Packet Cluster Time Out

2008-08-03 Thread Ernie

Don,

I had a timeout problem last winter during contest season which I
finally figured out. My DX4WIN would time out on occasion (no more than
a couple times a day). I was used to that. But when I started using it
for cluster spots while operating one big contest weekend, it kept
timing out every few minutes. I am connected to the internet via DSL,
with the DSL modem sitting near my operating desk. So after putting up
with this for an hour or so, I placed the modem where I could see it and
discovered that I would loose my DSL connection when I transmitted on
160 meters. Other bands didn't bother it, but 160 did. My solution was
to place a .01 mfd bypass capacitor across the phone line at the DSL
jack and wrapped the phone line a few times through a ferrite core. The
RF must have been picked up by the overhead phone line near the 160
antenna and brought in to the house.

That just shows that sometimes it can be a hardware problem. :-)
