Yes, the real cause are the bearings of the levers. They do not make sure a
flawless electrical contact. This seems to get worse at temperatures
around/below 0C.
I would name this imperfection Limit of simplicity.

I do have successfully build a K2/100,but now I like to do some experiments
with a analog S-meter device temporary in place of the standard K2 LED device.
Could someone give me some suggestions where I best,could pickup this 2 wire
S-meter signal for my analog indication

The signal you want is available from Control Board U2 pin 1 - that is
an analog signal.
You should follow it with a unity Gain Op Amp stage to minimize any
loading effects of the analog meter, and you may even want to do some
scaling after the op amp to properly drive whatever meter
For the K2/K3 analog (computer) meter program, try a search for W4SMT.
That's all that shows in the Help-About box.

You'll be fine with short lengths of the smaller sized coax. Larger
diameter coax is more important for long runs where the loss difference
becomes significant. I use LMR-240 for my in-shack connections. I use

I am using CW in SSB mode in my K3. After changing frequency or band I tap
my paddle to tune the KAT500 to the new memorized frequency. When I was
using KAT500 F/W v1.42, I could use the dot side of the paddle to bring the
KAT500 to the new memory frequency. When I programmed F/W v1.54 and
RG58 will work fine

1- FIELD TEST - Software available to selected field testers which should be
discussed among testers and Elecraft techs. This includes revs that are
supplied to a more expansive group via direct email to Eric or Wayne.

I'm Gary and I'm a ham radio operator. This winter I bought my second K3/P3
to replace a mediocre new TS-990. After some self generated issues with the
speaker output, the sub-receiver VFO, and hard reset, I sent the K3 back to
Elecraft for regeneration. It was fixed in a timely manner and
It's fine just the way it is and has worked well for many years.
Let's not complicate things or make a round wheel into a square one.
