I reported problems with the TX Calibration failing for 6m only. Several
offered ideas and suggestions.
The problem turned out to have been described in earlier conversations and
"the fix" described by Trinity, WE6R, and Howard, K6IA.
Ken, K3IU, pointed me to conversations which
I am helping a friend upgrade an older K3/100 (s/n 798) after he recently
acquired it from estate of a SK. I have brought firmware forward one or two
versions and installed the KIO3B board set. The radio has main RX only and
the KSYN3A upgrade. It does have the KANT3 antenna tuner.
I ran
FS: K3/100 s/n 64xx. Kit built by myself. Never out of non-smoking, no
pet shack. No problems at all. Ever.
Configuration: KPA3, KAT100, DVR3, KRX3 (sub-RX), KSYN3 (original, not
upgrade A version), KXV3B (upgrade) and KIO3B (upgrade), KTCX03 (upgrade),
K3EXREF (upgrade). Main RX
FS: K3/100 s/n 64xx. kit built by myself. never out of non-smoking, no pet

I recently tripped over an oddity in the way the K3 <-> KPA500
communications handle band switching when commanded from software vs button
pushing.
Scenario 1:
- KPA500 is set to go to Standby on band change
- Operator sets KPA500 to Operate
- Operator makes
I have two W2 units that I use with different K3's and different W10
computers. One of them is reluctant to connect when I start up the W2
utility program. So I power the W2 off and back on with the utility program
active and it connects just fine. This is consistent behavior.

OK, found the key to enabling the external 10 MHz source to the K3EXREF and
K144XV. This works FB now. no need for advice or comment.
When I turn the radio on, most of the time the LCD screen is very bright
with the normal display barely visible and faint. I do not know if this is

I have almost the same exact configuration as K9GEM except my microHAM box
is a DigiKEYER 2. Couple comments:

Is it possible to configure the XV menu entries so as to have two
transverters defined with 144 MHz (operating band) -> 28 MHz (IF band)

I decided I did not need the 2m module that has been installed in my K3 s/n
2295 so I am putting it up for sale.
All parts supplied with the original kit are included with exception of the

microHAM StationMaster controlling a SixPack switch. On all bands except
for 60m, the P3 operates normally. On 60m, there is something odd going on.

10 watts, it seems that an amplifier is needed. One that I am looking at

1. When I start the utility, not the firmware loader but the run time
utility, it starts with a very bizarre window, not movable, only closable by
Task Manager and the top is off the top of the screen. I deleted the
executable and downloaded a new copy but get the same behavior. It appears
Ken, K3IU, is a master detective as it turns out. My K3 operated FB using
AFSK mode but not on FSK. To make a long story short, we discovered a bent
pin on one of the connectors connecting the front panel to the rest of the
K3. As it turns out, this pin happened to be the one that carries the

works fine. Transmit using FSK-D mode in the K3 keys the transmitter but
the FSK signal does not trigger the K3 to transmit both tones. I hear a

and science of grounding vs earthing in the grand scheme of things as
specified in the NEC and other sources. But there has been such a
proliferation of messages over several days, the net effect of which is to

One thing that I do not see is the minimum requirement for the FM filter if
one wishes to use the K144XV to transmit FM. I assume that I need the FM
filter installed on the main board for both transmit and receive. If I want
to use the XV to receive FM on the sub then I need a second FM filter

800x480 WVGA resolution (with the monitor horizontal). This is a super

have N1MM Logger directly control the K3 DVR memories. By this I mean F1
commands the KDVR3 to send the contents of Memory 1, just like pressing the

Thanks to Gregg for suggesting that I hold the power button for 10 seconds
after power on. It is unclear that this truly fixed the problem or enabled
download but it is true that after several tries, I was able to successfully
reload all firmware and the radio is back on line.

I researched the 5 pin DIN connector that is on the back of the THP 1.5KFx
amp's Yaesu interface jack and have a part number. This will enable any K3
which has the pullup resistors for band data installed on the KIO3 through
the ALC mod or factory cut in to output band data to the amp and have it

I recently replaced Icom stuff with a K3. Now I am trying to get all the
stuff in the shack that is supposed to communicate with each other to do so.
Right now I am working on the K3 to SteppIR interface.
I have a clone of the SteppIR S13 cable and the K3 is connected directly
