The KDSP2 does quite well for SSB. Check your settings against the
defaults shown in the KDSP2 manual. Particularly the bandpass low and
high frequencies.
Secondly, make sure the 'nr' and 'nt' is set to off (no dots before them
on the display. If those are set on, they can be expected

After a long hiatus, I've fired it up, realigned it successfully using
Spectragram , and the audio still sounds horrible. I've come to realize that
the parameters used for the DSP are probably not optimized for SSB.

Yes, that is normal, DSP Bypass is not 'sticky' across a power off/on cycle.
That is why I remove the KDSP2 when doing a K2 filter alignment - it is
just too inconvenient for me to deal with rapidly, it is quicker to
remove it for the duration.

Seems to be something like 60-80 ma extra running DSP on vs DSP
bypassed on battery.
With DSP you should be able to toggle between three modes by tapping
display: normal, DSP and voltage/current. In the DSP mode, probably

I've had my K2 for a few years now, no DSP, and do exclusively 40m CW work,
using only the built-in standard filters. Absolutely no complains and have
never felt

The clock is useless to me, it doesn't keep time, and it is too hard
to correct the time base and fix the time. I never use it. I have
an external clock that sits on top of the K2 and it is visible all
the time when I need it.

I mean the KAF2 and KDSP2 cannot be used at the same time (sorry if it was
unclear). I just checked the Elecraft site and confirmed that they do use
the same connector. Choose either the KAF2 or the KDSP2, but not both.

5251, and it works fine, but I have installed a KAF2 and it is more
convenient for me, as I am a CW-only operator. Included are the manual, a
new battery in the Elecraft envelope and the headers needed for

I'll let others chime in, but one feature the DSP provides is
particularly useful when the bands are not terribly busy. You can ten
widen the IF pasband, activate the denoiser, and listen to

noisy airplanes sometimes fly overhead and the NB takes care of them.
Also, the SSB board is useful for data modes which can make for fun
portable operation. There is some nice PSK software out there...

exclusively. I have the DSP and know that it works well and is
occassionally useful. However, the stock filters in the K2 are so good that
I rarely use the DSP filters or de-noiser. SSB may be a different story
though.
