corrosion, it sounds more like acid core solder; perhaps it was mislabeled.

I have had a few full break in rigs in the distant past, and back then,
I was disappointed; for the last 30 years most of my operating has been
semi-break in, and now with the K2, full break in, and I find I really
love it; it is a real pleasure to use - for example, in the recent IARU
, rats. My K2, with antenna tuner, got hit by a nearby lightening
strike. It still works ok, but it's deaf. Where do I start
looking for the zap?

Folks,
I received a few suggestions on the alignment of my KX1 from various
people, direct, via the list and from Gary at Elecraft.
I have to admit, they were some good ideas, and I tried a few, and found
that two worked fairly well; I made a blunt Phillips from a normal
Phillips that fit
as it transmits and is decent
on batteries, the other functionality is marginal on my list of
priorities.

to some degree, there is the metrology question of how accurate are
your reference sources?; in the case of using WWV of course, it is
extremely accurate (beyond both my resolution and accuracy capabilities).
To what accuracy and resolution are the frequency counter and service
today were both available. My use would be satellite tracking with the
IC-7800 as the control unit.

I note an apparent anomaly with my K3 using dual RX...
say I tune to 24.953.43 with both main and sub; in the main RX I hear a
tone (apparently a spurious signal, as no antenna is connected). I do
not hear it on the sub receiver; if I swap A/B it stays with the main.

I understand that the input gain on transmit is separately settable for
front panel vs. rear audio in.
But, it would make sense to me if the compression and gating were also
separately adjustable, front and rear.

I like it; I could copy some weak beacons that were marginal here, and a
few I couldn't hear without it, so it must make a few db of improved

Leave the K3 in USB, and try pressing the left side of the mode switch
and holding it down a bit longer (that's the *ALT*ernate Mode selection).
If that doesn't work, the K3 is dysfunctional; if you failed to try
that, the technical difficulty is that it was not in your mind. :-)

I LOVE my K3 / LP-PAN combination; as mush as I like the K3, the one
thing that I felt was missing was the panadapter, and it works very well.

There seem to be two issues here, both connected to the email clients in

On the send side, many email clients can be set to start a new line at
some arbitrary line length - say 60 characters, or 72, or whatever, and
then they auto-insert the CR / LF or ENTER key for you.

1. Buy a standard sized box to use as the chassis; use a drill press
to drill small screw holes after your layout is determined and
inked in the box. Use a chassis punch set to cut the larger
