Agreed, this is correct usage. It is shorthand for OVER to you and OUT after
your transmission, which saves another transmission just for ID, out.
You might hear this at a busy harbor, where control is working with many
commercial ships and the operators are comfortable with it. It allows

The specs for frequency stability are not good enough for the JT65 modes (+/- 1
ppm typical over 0-50 C). On 2m, that would be +/- 144Hz. The extended
temperature compensation improves that, but it will never be as stable as a K3
with an external reference.

Out of band means different things in each of more than a hundred countries,
so it is a lot of work to put that in firmware. Handy, but very tedious, and it
would probably delay other features.
I wouldn't mind band edge beeps myself, I am a bit absent-minded about that.

If the interference is from a single station, you can use a wave trap. This
is a series-tuned resonant circuit across the transmission line that shorts
out that frequency.

I'm actually KX3 #2985, rather than#29. I was only getting through with
compression on, which is good (compression works), but I can't figure out how
to make it stay on, which is not good.

Yes, people have reported good results with the Griffin iMic. Mine certainly
has stereo in, because I've used it to rip stereo LPs.
