Hi all,
I’ve used my KAT500 with pleasure for many years, but recently a problem has
arisen: I’ve lost the serial communication feature. I’ve already swapped the
KXUSB cable with another one (home-brew) so I’m pretty sure it’s not the KXUSB
that’s gone kaput. And the PC is doing USB comms fine
My K3, on receive, with the KAT500 in-line, the P3, and my massive 70A Astron
p.s. powering the K3, drew about 20A DC. Putting the K3 in transmit mode,
with just under 12W drive (so as not to kick in the 100w amp) required about
30A DC. Boosting the output to 50W drew about 70A DC.
Hi group,
For some months now, I had the same intermittent problems as Ian: after the K3
has been running for a few hours, it stops working with ERR PL1 (and PL2). The
next morning, after cooling off, things are back to normal. Up to yesterday, I
was always able to make this issue go away

Hi Gary, group, Elecraft support,
I think I have found a strong correlation between CW in SSB not
working and the QRQ setting. Here follows:
To make CW in SSB work: set CONFIG:QRQ to OFF, power-cycle the K3.
To break CW in SSB: set CONFIG:QRQ to ON, power-cycle the K3.

Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know that I've just uploaded my CatPad
software package to the Sourceforge open-source community.
CatPad is a software program that provides soft buttons which, if
pressed, send CAT commands to your radio. This way you can send
macros to your transceiver with
Hi all,
This may have been suggested before, as I recall there was a thread
on additional uses for the P3 display, but I haven't been able to
find it in a search.
What I would very much like, is that the AGC curve would be displayed
on the P3 screen: on the horizontal axis the input signal in

At PA6Z contest group, we're thinking about using 2 K3's in the
upcoming CQWW 160 meter contest. This will be the first time we will
be using two rigs on the same band. Of course, we're planning large
antenna separation and we'll perform tests and take power
Hello,
I have noticed that the CONFIG:L-MIX-R configuration setting
currently has six options:
A - B
A - AB
AB - B
AB - AB
A - B
A - AB
The keen reader will notice that option 5 equals option 1, and
option 6 equals option 2. This is probably a (cosmetic) bug.
Instead of correcting this flaw
Hi,
I also use the SPAN feature very much. I have it often set to wide

quite narrow when I encounter a pile-up and want to look at the details.
I would be much helped by the option to assign SPAN nn to a

Hi all,
I'm loving my P3!
I don't know whether this has already been posted in one of the
latency posts, but when I send multiple CAT commands to the P3/K3
combination in quick succession (e.g. FA00010102000;MD7;), then the
second command is missed by the K3. When I switch off the P3, both
Hi all,
I have noticed that when I send an MD3; or MD7; command to my K3

filter settings (selected filter, filter shift and width) are changed
to the values that are currently active for VFO A. This happens with

Hi Maury,
Some things spring to mind:
- Does this problem also occur in TEST mode (press and hold the MODE^ button)?
- If not, it may be RF coming back to the rig. Is the rig grounded?
- I've had this problem once with a multiband antenna, on a band for
which the built-in ATU had problems
Hi,
In addition to Arie's remarks, I would like to be able to select
these options in the L-MIX-R menu:
A-A

If these options are in the L-MIX-R menu, I can use the MN111 and MP

receiver only (B-B).

Hi group,
This weekend I've for the first time tried out N1MM SO2V with my K3
with sub-receiver, in the ARRL DX contest CW. The combination works
great. There is one peculiar thing, though.
When RX focus is on one VFO and TX focus is on the other, and I press
a Fn key, N1MM will move TX focus
as I know, these two modes use exactly the same
inputs and controls...
Can anyone help me out? What setting or control can be the cause of this?
Thanks in advance,
Frank PA4N

Hi all,
I'm considering buying an extra pair of SSB roofing filters (either
the 1.8 or the 2.1 kHz) for my K3. I wonder if we can except the
variable bandwidth roofing filters to become available any time soon.

Hi Glen,
Having a remote tuner, integrated with the K3 would be great...
I'm currently at work, so am recalling from my head. I think you can
achieve steps 1) through 5) by a hold on the TUNE front panel button.
Holding TUNE will set power output to the power specified in the

Hi,
Today I again experienced an audio blast. A difference with the
previous time was that the blast now lasted only 1 or 2 seconds and
then went away. Previously, switching off the K3 was the only way to
stop the blast.
The TECH MD DSPINFO says 0032 for the main rx and 0002 for the sub rx.
Hi Gary,
I think Enno was making his remarks here on the Elecraft reflector
because of an earlier remark that *I* made on a Dutch K3 email list,
and that he was referring to the audio blast that *I* encountered.
I was in a CW QSO on 20 meters at the moment the audio blast

Hi Duane,
I do happen to use Cecil Moore's ladder network and switch it from
inside the shack. I didn't program a PIC but used a third-party
BCD-to-band decoder to decode the K3 band data that's available on
the AUX connector, followed by some diode logic driving the 1' to 16'
relays outside.
Don,
Good point. Maybe something similar to out-of-band transmissions
would be good: a beep and displaying TX TEST for a moment. When
trying to transmit out-of-band, the K3 makes a beep and displays END

Yes, of course! That's the reason I don't see the VFO B display
