Had not hear anything on the firmware file, still in a holding pattern. And
yes, that image is exactly what I get. At this point I believe I will put the

[EVDL] Azure DMOC445 Programming

2018-10-28 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
Does anyone know how to get the DMOC out of test mode? I replaced the
controller circuit board with a new one I purchased a few years ago. It
will NOT communicate to the ccShell. However when I connect to a TTY
terminal program and power on to says "test 5 and 6 passed, press r to
return" I assume that it is in some kind of a testing mode but do not know
how to put it into service. I am hoping that it is a simple "press this key
and then that one. Worst case is a PROM that is not loaded, if so, then I
guess I am screwed. The manual stops at "if you didn't see ...xyz" then
call Azure.

2018-08-29 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
Help Please...I really would like to get my EV back on the road.
Replacing the motor did not fix the problem so here is what I have.
Press accelerator and wheels move (while jacked up )slowly and jerk. Amp
gauge max out at 50 amp (normally goes to 200 amps plus when it was working.
Reading full voltage, ~220DC to controller. Motor seem to work when I had
it out of the car without a load. All seems to be ok with trans, CV joints,
etc. Spun up on the table but I did not check the RPM or attempt to put a
load on it. (it did throw the shaft key across the garage...opps)

Any help would be appreciated.

Also what are the differences between the DMOC 445 and UMOC 440? If not
using CAN interface can the UMOC replace the DMOC without too many changes.
Does the CCShell work the same on both?

Add me to the long list of people who will miss Roland Wiench’s posts. I
enjoyed hearing about his robust approach to engineering informed by data
collection built around his daily drive. The way he described it, his EV had a
switch for everything; all failure modes were addressed, regardless of how
remote their occurrence. It appears he lived a long, satisfying life and I’m
glad he posted to this list.

Thanks for the reply. I have temporary hooked up the new spare motor and it
is as I expected... The old one is kaput. Glad I bought the spare on eBay
a few years back when I had the opportunity. Now the fun starts replacing
the old one. Hopefully it will be back on the road by end of July. This
time I will take the time to set up the CAN to read the temp and RPMs.

[EVDL] Azure AC24LS and DMOC445 Help Part Deux

2018-07-03 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
This may be more of a general question. Does it matter how the 3 wires from
the DMOC connect to the AC24L? I have the motor set up as a Delta 3 phase.
The DMOC has the ends labeled as A,B and C but there is no indication on the
motor, just 3 poles. Does it matter on this 3 phase setup or can any
connector go to any connection? Any help will be appreciated.

[EVDL] Azure AC24LS and DMOC445 Help!

2018-06-28 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
To the all-knowing great EV List:

A while back my Electercel became a 2600lb paperweight. It is now time to
try to resurrect it.

Background.Azure AC24LS / DMOC445 with 132 Lithium 2P66S for about 210 to
220 VDC running for a few years with 18k EV Miles.

Hot summer day (air cooled), may have over revved motor?(no tach ), lost
physical power and coasted to side of road, towed home.

Problem: press accelerator motor moves slowly and car will inch forward with
very little power. Minimum amps being drawn.

Have full voltage to DMOC but have not tested at motor due to location.
Have CCshell but it does not show any problems or error code as far as my
limited knowledge can tell. Using BMS and Volt meter all seems well with
battery pack.

My thoughts is the motor was over heated and may have burned. I do have a
spare but would like to hear from list serve before running wire from DMOC
to new motor. Going to be a PITA to replace but will do if I can be sure
that is it and not something in the DMOC.

Suggestions? Anything I could look at in the CCShell? Way to test old
motor directly without DMOC?

Thanks in advance

We figure it might be some high pitch sound or other unknown phenomenon that

Electric vehicles are _less_ noisy to wildlife, but not silent in their
hearing range.

While the low frequency noises from the engine and exhaust are eliminated,
the high-pitched electronic noise can be quite loud to wildlife (and those
of us that can hear ~17 kHz and
above.) The controller switching frequency of is above the typical person's
threshold of hearing, but my cats would greet me in the driveway every
evening that I would come home from work in my EV. They could hear me coming
a block away. My wife can definitely hear the controller in our Prius and
also in our Leaf.

[EVDL] MILE-Stone (for me)

2015-05-31 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
I know that a lot of you have many more miles on your converted EVs than this
but I was really excited today when my Electercel turned 10k electric miles.
(10,042)
Lithium really made a difference.

March 2009 to Sept 2013 only 2,614 miles with Lead, could only do about 35
miles on a charge.
Sept 2013 to March 2014 down for upgrade to LiFePO4
March 2014 to May 2015 7,428 miles with Lithium and no degradation seen so far.
84 miles round trip to work.

(271 gallons of gas, I think not)

Re: [EVDL] LiFePO4Charging

Tomw,

Thanks for catching that. I missed typed it should have been 234 to 235
volts. But to answer your question the 234-235 volts is when I tell the BMS
to restrict the total voltage higher to see if the cells will ever reach
3.5v. So I guess from reading other comments, the lost is from the
resistance in my interconnect. I did not realize that the draw from my
connections would have this much drop on charge.
To answer the other questions my charger is an eltek Valere with a Orien
BMS. The measure voltage on each cell and the total pack is via the BMS
after the balance but before the fully charged phase.

So at this point I assume that turning off the total pack restrictions to
allow for loss and limiting each battery to 3.45 (was 3.5) is my best
charging regiment.

Thanks,
Buddy

[EVDL] LiFePO4Charging

2014-09-25 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
I thought I understood how to charge my 9 month old LiFeP04 but know I am
doubting my process. So I will lay it out and see what feedback the battery
gurus here can suggest.

I have 132 60AH batteries in 2P66S. So I am going to call this 66 batteries
at 120AH. Specs call for 3.6 volts max, so 66 in serial is 237.7 volts. I
don't want to push them so I set the max voltage at 231volts charge which
brings me to approx 3.5 volts per battery. Now in real life once it is at
this 231 volts for the string each individual battery voltage is approx 3.34
volts +/- 0.10 volt. Even at the plus side of that each battery would be
3.44 volts or 227.04 volts for the string. So how is it that my charger
string voltage is reading 334 - 335 volts while each battery is reading
3.34? Does it matter if the total voltage is over the max (66 X 231) as
long as the individual voltage is less 3.5 volts? Should I set my BMS
charge voltage cutoff higher and just leave each cell set at the 3.5 volts
max. Hope I am making sense.

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Buddy Mills

Check out these Colorado companies:

http://boulderhc.com/services/

Evolve can provide the parts and Boulder Hybrids can assembly the battery pack
with BMS even though its not listed as a standard service.

Re: [EVDL] Vacuum Switch

2014-09-15 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
Thanks for all the responses. I already have two round tanks (4" PVC X
10"long) connect together via a pipe. The vacuum pump is fairly quiet now
that I have made a insulated box both outside and inside with a hole for
air. It is rubber mounted both the pump to the box and the box to the
frame. The vacuum switch I have now is too sensitive and I prefer a long
draw every three to 4 brakes to a short burst every time I touch the brakes.
I have ordered a switch to try and if it does what I want I will post the
results later.

Thanks to all for the advice,

You don't want to make more pressure. You could use a larger vessel for
your vacuum buffer. If you go higher in pressure you will shorten the life

Buddy,
You can use one of the Schottky diodes that is ideal for this
architecture,
typically they come in a block with 2 diodes integrated and ready to
mount to a heatsink, the only thing you need to take care of is to
insulate the diode housing from the chassis of your vehicle as the
housing has the output to the + of your battery while the chassis of
your vehicle is always connected to the aux battery negative.
You can find these diodes searching Ebay with "Schottky 200A" or
"Schottky CNQ"
Examples are the IR 203CNQ100 (100V, 200A) or 301CNQ045 (45V, 300A)

[EVDL] Replacing Auxiliary Battery

2014-08-21 Thread Buddy Mills via EV
I am replacing my auxiliary battery(ies)for my 12 volt system. Presently I
have two group 31 Deka 8G31 (70lbs each) over the front bumper. They were
left over from my old lead days before I converted to Lithium and fit the
spot at the time. My question is "What plays better with the DC to DC
converter. Gel? AGM? or just an old fashion lead auto battery? I need
something with some ump so that I can run my 12vdc to 120vac converter (it
runs my heaters). So just a small 12v will not cut it. I also like to
trickle charge it with a small charger while plugged in and charging the
Traction Pack. Any suggestions.

So, not content with 100 years of greed-fueled destruction of the earths

progress is being made to progress Humanity down a more responsible road to
a cleaner and more sustainable future for us and and the Earth in general,
Big Oil comes along and says "No! You don't want to do it like that! Lets

Sounds like the plot from '2012'.
