Not really, except that prior to adding an E2K server into a 55 site, you
could configure your mbx, cr and dl agreements to be one-way only which
would mean you could remove the AD accounts/contacts/DGs that it creates
without affecting your 55 environment.
Even in 2-way mode you have the option

One thought is to use a tool to migrate your users to the AD Domain first
using a tool that migrates them and populates SID History so they can access
mail with their old account.

Well, using the ADC as an interorg tool I don't believe you are going to get
PFs to replicate , nor calendar data. However, having Domain accounts in a
separate forest from where the Exchange servers exist is a supported
configuration... Then all they'd have to worry about is e-mail policies

That part of installation is no different than 5.5's installation; if it
didn't ask you for the name of an existing 5.5 server, then the
username/pass, you somehow skipped the screen that asks if you want to
join the site.

It sounds more like he had a Config CA first time round, but
uninstalling Exchange 2000 removed it (which I guess it would, since
that process would remove the SRS?) My question is whether the Config
CA would be re-created when you reinstall Exchange 2000? Never tried
our time and effort suggesting.
