Almost all of the books cited in my posts I either have in my collection, have
read from library books, or they are on order. At one time, I owned over 5,000

that good.

So, I can get most any book I need through the inter-library loan system at my

Re: [FairfieldLife] Mahamantra, by Krishna Das

2013-12-23 Thread Richard Williams
I am glad to hear that you are listening to the great bhajans sung by my
old pal Krishna Das. He is indeed an amazing artist.

Speaking of Das, you might recall from one of my previous post that several
of us became students of Neem Karoli Baba in the late sixties. My old pal
Bhagavan Das and I visited the Baba shortly after we departed Rishikesh.
Later, Bhagavan Das introduced Richard Alpert to the Baba, and Alpert
became Ram Das, who wrote "Be Here Now."

Jeffrey Miller became Surya Das about this time. Another pal of mine from
Texas, Charan Das, also has many interesting observations concerning the
Baba. If you are interested in learning more about the type of Bhajan
chanting in this tradition you might consider reading the book by Bhagavan
Das called "It's Here Now. Are You?" in which Bhagavan Das (Michael Riggs)
relates some amazing experiencies on his journeys in India. Surya Das has
several books in print and you can read about Charan Das, the 'Sadhu from
Texas' by Anne Cushman, at Salon.

"The book is an intriguing portrait of what it was like to be right in the
middle of it. The real gurus, the fake gurus, the zealous devotees, the
drugs, the sex, the confusion.

In India he studied with several famous teachers and when he gets back to
America, Allen Ginsberg, Alan Watts (who was apparently a notorious drunk!)
and Ram Dass, among others are constantly floating in and out of his life.
It is also an interesting to see how he dealt with his unwanted fame..."

[FairfieldLife] Alan Turing gets a posthumous pardon

2013-12-23 Thread s3raphita
From The Telegraph:
"Alan Turing, the brilliant wartime codebreaker, has been granted a posthumous
pardon by the Queen for his criminal conviction for homosexuality.

Dr Turing, who helped Britain to win World War II, killed himself after
receiving the conviction in 1952.

He has now been granted a pardon under the Royal Prerogative of Mercy after a
high-profile campaign supported by tens of thousands of people including
Professor Stephen Hawking."
There's always something a bit silly about these stories. You know, like the
Pope forgiving Galileo. How far back do you go? But what I find particularly
odd about this story is why didn't they pardon *everyone* who was convicted of
being a homosexual? Why single out the celebrity?

[FairfieldLife] RE: Five, six, and seven for Feste

2013-12-23 Thread authfriend
None of you know wtf you are talking about except Judy and I know plenty to
know this is a fact. Robin was never serious on this forum about "attacking" or
denigrating or questioning Judy. Whoever thought this was so is either
ironically-challenged (and we already know who those people are), or stubborn
or simply dense. To pursue this useless topic is to only make those who assert
his animosity toward Judy actually existed look terminally lame-brained. Feste,
Ricky, surely you two have better things to do than continue to make yourselves
look small and mean and boring. Don't you? I mean Feste, are you really this
small in real life?( I already know Ricky is off his proverbial rocker and
probably lives in a room wallpapered with FFL transcripts and 25 humming
computers.)

Nobody who actually reads those posts could assert with a straight face that
they were anything but ironic. I mean, just the fact that Robin was claiming to
have switched his allegiance from me to Barry tells you he wasn't serious.
Feste knows that perfectly well; his pretended ignorance could hardly reflect
worse on him. We expect that kind of nonsense from Richard, but it's sad to see
Feste succumbing to it.

Yes, yes, I was a member of this "club" and received these little floppy 45's

None of you know wtf you are talking about except Judy and I know plenty to
know this is a fact. Robin was never serious on this forum about "attacking" or
denigrating or questioning Judy. Whoever thought this was so is either
ironically-challenged (and we already know who those people are), or stubborn

Traditionally in India, women do not chant or meditate on the OM
syllable - it's usually reserved for renunciates. The OM syllable is not
really a bija mantra, except by courtesy only, as it were, according to
Swami Ageananda Bharati. MMY only recommends householder bija mantras
for meditation. In TM you only get one single bija mantra - the mantra
of your istadevata. For example, OM isn't included in the maha-mantra of
the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition founded by Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati.

And, hardly anybody on the planet meditates on just the OM syllable
anyway - that's something a dilettante would do after reading about it
in a popular book, rather than a serious seeker studying under a
qualified teacher. OM is really just a place holder symbol for the
actual bija mantra given at initiation. OM is more like a salutation
such as "Hail!"used at the beginning of a prayer or mystic chant, like
in the Vedas.

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: What People Wear

2013-12-23 Thread Richard J. Williams
One of the most popular urban camouflage outfits around Austin is a
black T-shirt and some black pants and shoes. This works very well at
night, whether in the city or in the country. Black T-shirts look good
with denims too, and when you're sitting at a table at a cafe, people
only see your top half, so they don't know if you have on black pants or
not.

The only real big decisions are long sleeve or short sleeve black
T-shirt? Or, pocket T or no pocket? With a pocket T you carry your cell
phone in an easy to access place, so the phone is always available with
a quick grab. Other people just like to have their phone on the table
out in plain sight. Go figure.

Over in France, I have read that artists who wear black sweaters are
very fond of what we call over here "Pierre hats" - I saw one at Paris
Hatters in downtown San Antonio. Another thing people around here like
to wear are baseball caps - but every time I see a guy wearing one on
backwards, I think it looks really stupid. But, that's just me.

Here's a translation to show what he was really talking about. Makes a lot
more sense, doesn't it?
Trying my best to speak generically, Share, I think you'll find that this is a
quality shared by Mean Girls like you and me everywhere, not just on this
forum. If I were to pass along the occult view of the 'dynamic' in place in
such interactions, it would go sorta like this.

Mean Girls (of any type, or sex) feed on Attention. I am hooked on it in the
same way that smack addicts are hooked on heroin. And when I see someone
getting more Attention than I am (or, let's face it on this forum, any
Attention at all), I get pissed off at those who are attracting the Attention
because it's "Mine, damnit." If one could auto-color posts according to
psychosis, the posts from me would consistently be green, for jealousy. :-)

So anyway, wannabe occultists like me see someone else getting the Attention
that I seek, so I Can't Have That. I have to combat that somehow. My most
common tactic -- Stage One, as it were -- is to try to attack the person who is
getting more attention directly, *to make them feel bad, and lose their
self-confidence*. This first psychic attack is intended to weaken them.

If it doesn't work, I move on to Stage Two, which involves trying to make the
other people in the immediate environment see the person who they're paying
attention to as flawed or broken, as 'less than themselves.' This is the Stage
in which I usually pull out all the stops. I'll say anything I can think of
about the person I'm trying to demonize, because the Whole Purpose is *to*
demonize them. Since I *obviously* can't compete on equal ground and gain a
similar measure of Attention, I attempt to discredit the ones who are getting
more Attention than I am, in the hopes that it will shift back to me.

So *naturally* I focus on what I perceive as their mistakes or faults. *My*
whole act is about pretending that I don't have any. So if you do, *you* are
not worth paying Attention to, and I am.

Yeah, right.

This is such an old, tired act on the Internet that it amazes me that people
still fall for it. But they do.

Bottom line from my POV is that *if* people do, and *if* they write me off
because of what a few people say about me, they really aren't worth having in
my sphere of influence, are they?

Here is the rest of Lesson 2. Set up a file box (maybe an Iowa-themed recipe

identify a feeling you are having, write it down under the corresponding
letter. Now, we're after only the more negative feelings with you; you've got

these kinds of maneuvers take experience to be successful") - but she didn't

[FairfieldLife] Fliegenpilz!

2013-12-23 Thread Richard Williams
According to the Bible, wise men came bearing gifts of gold, frankincense
and myrrh. The Bible doesn't say how many wise men or how many gifts. The
Bible doesn't say where the wise came from.

Gift giving may be a universal practice, but in Europe and thus in the
Americas, it's all about the shaman, old "Saint Nick", and the
Indo-European cult of Mithras. The 'Santa Clause' we see today evolved from
Shamanic traditions developed in ancient Gaul and Siberia.

Everyone knows that the 'Weihnactsmann' was an amalgam of Thor and Donner.
Saint Nick as Thor flies through the skies in his chariot, vis-a-vis the
Big Dipper, circling the North Star in a 24-hour period, and throws his
mighty hammer down to the ground in order to create lightning. Closely
associated with the legend of the Northern Shaman is the classical form of
ecstatic practice.

The word shaman means 'to know' in the Tunga language, associated with the
Fly Agaric or Amanita muscaria, the magic mushroom of immortality. The use
of Amanita was practiced by groups all across the northern Eurasia,
especially eastern Siberia. There is evidence in rock cave art from 4,000
BC and Christian Ratsch has indicated that there is some evidence that
those who used prehistoric drinking vessels as 'beakers' took Fly Agaric in
a ritual, cultic context.

There is an old nursery rhyme:

"He has of purple pure
A mantle around him.
Say, who may the manikin be
Who stands there on one leg?

Fliegenpilz!"

The reindeer of the remote northern wastes had a hankering for the magic
mushroom Amanita muscaria too! When they ate it, they became intoxicated
and their nose turned red. The Amanita, mushrooms with a red cap and
fluffy, flaked, white covering, are found in abundance all over northern
Europe, under the cedar trees, usually just after a rain.

In Siberian lands mushrooms of the genus Amanita are gathered in baskets
and strung over the hearth for drying, just like we now string popcorn.

Not for nothing do we erect cedar or pine trees in our living rooms and
place presents all around, wrapped in red and white!

the other people in the immediate environment see the person who they're paying
attention to as flawed or broken, as 'less than themselves.' This is the Stage
in which the Mean Girls usually pull out all the stops. They'll say anything
they can think of about the person they're trying to demonize, because the
Whole Purpose is *to* demonize them. Since they *obviously* can't compete on
equal ground and gain a similar measure of Attention, they attempt to discredit
the ones who are getting more Attention than they are, in the hopes that it
will shift back to them.

So *naturally* such people focus on what they perceive as your mistakes or
faults. *Their* whole act is about pretending that they don't have any. So if
you do, *you* are not worth paying Attention to, and they are.

Yeah, right.

This is such an old, tired act on the Internet that it amazes me that people
still fall for it. But they do.

Bottom line from my POV is that *if* people do, and *if* they write you off
because of what a few Mean Girls say about you, they really aren't worth having
in your sphere of influence, are they?

You should look into the works of Carlos Castaneda. He may have been a

pertains to the outside world and is called the petty tyrant.
A petty tyrant is a tormentor. Someone who either holds the power of life
and death over warriors or simply annoys them to distraction.
Petty tyrants teach us detachment. The ingredients of the new seers'
strategy shows how efficient and clever is the device of using a petty tyrant.
The strategy not only gets rid of self-importance; it also prepares warriors
for the final realization that impeccability is the only thing that counts in
the path of knowledge.

The latest I heard today was that Phil Robertson is sticking by his *guns*,

He did not quote, rather paraphrased( to the best of his ability, maybe) and
added vulgar comment and disparaging remarks which most, if not all, television
programming refuses to air out of good taste or legal reasons. But Phil
believes he is being attacked for his religious beliefs and his freedom of
speech is being attacked. It's not his religious beliefs under attack, it's his
attitude , and the vulgar way he expresses that attitude that is criticized and
then he hides behind his religion to justify his comments. Phil can not be
prosecuted for what he said because *congress shall make not law abridging his
freedom of speech*. However, go into work today and call your boss a MFer and
just sees what happens , LOL! We are all free to say what we want without fear

the social consequences there after .Your government will not prosecute you

Christmastime is a little less commercial here in the Netherlands,
BTW. Possibly it's because the Dutch are frugal, with a capital Cheap,
and thus don't shop as much, period. But they certainly don't seem to
go as crazy as Americans when it comes to "Christmas shopping." The
very *concept* of a "Black Friday" would cause them to laugh.

The lines in stores -- even TOY stores -- are short and well-behaved,
and many of the merchants get into the spirit of giving (as a kind of
tax-writeoff loss leader, of course) by giving away free coffee, tea,
pastries, treats, and other goodies to shoppers. I could walk the

And, whether its forced or artificial or merely the result of
media/culture subliminal suggestions, most people ARE more friendly
this time of year IMO. If you'd like to attribute all that to Baby
Jesus, I don't have any problem with that. Me, I tend to attribute it
to a yearly holiday that pretty much everyone looks forward to because
it's a holiday, dummy. It's an excuse to celebrate, and be with
friends and family. What's not to like about that?

BTW, as one of the only comments I'll make to some of the incredibly
bigoted and Islamophobic shit being posted here recently (clearly by
those who have never lived in largely Islamic neighborhoods surrounded
by Islamic people), some of the best and most bountiful free feasts
along Haarlemerstraat are in the shops owned by Muslims. They get off
on the holiday period, too.

I suspect one could even be a meth dealer and like Christmas... :-)

Trying my best to speak generically, Share, I think you'll find that
this is a quality shared by Mean Girls everywhere, not just on this
forum. If I were to pass along the occult view of the 'dynamic' in place
in such interactions, it would go sorta like this.

Mean Girls (of any type, or sex) feed on Attention. They are hooked on
it in the same way that smack addicts are hooked on heroin. And when
they see someone getting more Attention than they are (or, let's face it
on this forum, any Attention at all), they get pissed off at those who
are attracting the Attention because it's "Ours, damnit." If one could
auto-color posts according to psychosis, the posts from Mean Girls would
consistently be green, for jealousy. :-)

So anyway, these wannabe occultists see someone else getting the
Attention that they seek, so they Can't Have That. They have to combat
that somehow. The most common tactic -- Stage One, as it were -- is to
try to attack the person who is getting more attention directly, *to
make them feel bad, and lose their self-confidence*. This first psychic
attack is intended to weaken them.

If it doesn't work, they move on to Stage Two, which involves trying to
make the other people in the immediate environment see the person who
they're paying attention to as flawed or broken, as 'less than
themselves.' This is the Stage in which the Mean Girls usually pull out
all the stops. They'll say anything they can think of about the person
they're trying to demonize, because the Whole Purpose is *to* demonize
them. Since they *obviously* can't compete on equal ground and gain a
similar measure of Attention, they attempt to discredit the ones who are
getting more Attention than they are, in the hopes that it will shift
back to them.

So *naturally* such people focus on what they perceive as your mistakes
or faults. *Their* whole act is about pretending that they don't have
any. So if you do, *you* are not worth paying Attention to, and they
are.

Yeah, right.

This is such an old, tired act on the Internet that it amazes me that
people still fall for it. But they do.

Bottom line from my POV is that *if* people do, and *if* they write you
off because of what a few Mean Girls say about you, they really aren't
worth having in your sphere of influence, are they?

> Actually I just realized something: it's probably healthier to have

Petty tyrants teach us detachment. The ingredients of the new
seers' strategy shows how efficient and clever is the device of using a

Good point, Share. I mean, how is outwear designed to make you look like
a pile of leaves gonna fit in and fade into the background in the
*city*, ferchrissakes? I got curious, so I Google-Imaged "urban camo"
and got these:

camo paint themes on a few pickup trucks. Go figure.

Richard, I'm pretty sure this is a specialty of the MGC. If they think of you
as the enemy, they ignore what's good about you and focus on your mistakes or
flaws which of course we all have. Actually I just realized something: it's
probably healthier to have them as enemies than as friends!

Richard, that would be fun to meet at Revs in person. It it the FF *in* spot.
You might even spot Oprah or David Lynch there. Only kidding! I think Oprah
went to Cafe Paradiso which is just down the street. Maybe we could all dress
in Duck Dynasty outfits too. That'll give the TMers something to meditate on!

PS I agree with you that FFLers are probably nicer in person.

Those who persecute gays don't follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, who taught
us to love our fellow man and woman, "let him who has not sinned cast the first
stone".

Important point. The suicide rate for gay teens is still disproportionately
high. It's a lot harder for gay teens to "come to terms with where they're at"

classmates, and that's going to leave scars for even the best-adjusted gay
adults.
