One of the 3 kittens I recently rescued tested positive for FeLV on the
snap test. Although we're going to run the advanced test in about a month,
Kaya gets sick very easily and loses several ounces when she does. Kaya is
almost 5 months old now, 3 lbs 2 oz, and we've had her for nearly 2 months.

All the kittens need to be retested after 3 months on the SNAP test. The virus
can take 12 weeks to show up on the test after exposure.

Lorrie,
I have an FeLV positive kitten also who is about 3 to 4 months old and only 3.8
pounds also. She developed a sore on her mouth that slowed her down
considerably and I thought I was going to lose her. My vet was waiting on this
new FDA medicine she had heard about and ordered for me.
Hi Gloria,
Just an FYI, Nutrived is better than Pet Tinic, it has the folic acid
needed in blood building and Pet Tinic doesn't. Vit B, Iron and Folic
acid are needed to biuld blood.

I concur with treating for hemabart even if the test was negative. That is
how Junior was treated and he lived another year and a half. He tested
negative as well but the vet treated as if he was positive for
hemabartenella.
I will be praying for kitty.
Gary I am so sorry to hear things are not
Has the vet put her on Doxoxycline, hemobartonella is a very common
cause of anemia and positives get it frequently. Doxy will help get rid
of it and if she doesn't have it won't hurt her but if she does, she
will die if it isn't treated and the doxy may just save her life. Has

I use PetTinic as a supplement. That's what I used with my last
anemic cat, who was also on doxycycline. I think you have to be
careful with iron supplements, use as directed by the vet. Best of
luck with your 8 mo old baby!

Cats almost never get low on iron, it does happen but not very common.
Bailey was low when he was anemic but my vet said this was not very
common. Has your vet tested the baby to make sure she is low on iron,
too much iron isn't good either. You may try nutrivid it is a vitamin
b, folic
Thanks, Belinda, glad to know that.
