I used to use RC extreme hairball as a treat, but worried about the chicken
feathers, also they do have grains in some of their foods and since we are all
allergic to grains, that leaves RC out.

You will have to do what I resorted to, put food out in the am and pm and after
an hour, take it up. I used to leave food in the bowls all day but Dee and
Homey would continue to eat all day and are now over weight. The only way to
get them back into shape is withhold the food. Got to do that for myself.
Can;'t have oreos in the house because they call me to come and eat them. They
are my comfort food when I start feeling down.

 Bonnie Hogue ho...@sonic.net wrote:
Thanks, Margo (and everyone who helped). Lucky actually ate the RC s/o diet
tonight! And he is at least going out to the cat boxes in the garage rather
than trying to pee in the house. We have some anti-inflammatory to help
 with his urgency I hope.
Hopefully we're crossing a bridge toward better health for Lucky! I know I
can feed him separately, the problem is, the other cats still eat the dry
food, and I need to keep him out of it.
 Wish us well!

 Hi Bonnie,

Since there was no evidence of crystals, Id just go for a high meat
canned food (like the EVO 95% varieties), without the acidifiers. Using that
could incline him towards oxylate stones, which are much more difficult to
 deal with.

Re: [Felvtalk] Update on Lucky

2013-09-11 Thread Margo

Hi Bonnie,
All in all, I'd say that's good news. I try to avoid dry food, but the RC SO is what I have for those times someone is stubborn or insistent on dry food. They like it :) I haven't tried the canned, for wet food I use EVO, Hounds and Gatos, and others with basically meat only. That's pretty much what I use for everyone. Canned is altogether better than dry for any cat.
Hope all the meds make him feel much better, soon.

<ZZZ!--[if 9] mso gte><ZZZ![endif]--><ZZZ!--[if 9] mso gte><ZZZ![endif]-->

We spent a lot of time (and almost $500) at the vet today. The great news is Lucky’s blood work looks real good, as do his x-rays (he does have some arthritis in his back). He has no apparent blockages (tumors) in his urinary tract. They did not see any crystals. The vet did say his bladder is very small and looks very inflamed. So they gave him a shot of an anti-inflammatory/anti-pain med (a good thing, he calmed down a lot, which is good to see), gave him anti-biotic (suspected u.t.i.), anti-inflammatory and an ocular anti-biotic/steroid for his runny (herpes) eye. Poor little dude, he sure went through a lot today! Now he’s home, getting re-acquainted with the other cats and chilling. Looks like I’ve got a FLUTD feline here. They gave me a prescription for another type of special food (Royal Canine) which I’ll try (he hates the CD). Fingers crossed.
Thank you all for your words of advice, help, suggestions and encouragements. Lucky thanks you too!

Thanks!
I feel better about my RC. It's a minor part of their diet, but I don't feed them the hypoallergenic dog food that's made from feathers .Iresearched the science behind the hydrolyzed hypo-allergenic foods when I had a dog with issues, so I understand some of that.
I misunderstood, and thought that the contention was that their chicken meal is made of feathers.
Thanks for clearing that up :)

Hi Bonnie,

Since there was no evidence of crystals, Id just go for a high meat
canned food (like the EVO 95% varieties), without the acidifiers. Using that
could incline him towards oxylate stones, which are much more difficult to deal
with.

and when do they start using deceased humans as an acceptable source of
protein. They already use animals euthanized by humane society. I think it is
time for God to put an end to us, we do not deserve to live on this beautiful
planet that we are in the processing of destroying.

I'm so glad I was never that impressed with Royal Canin to begin with.

Re: [Felvtalk] Update on Lucky

2013-09-11 Thread Bonnie Hogue
Thanks, Margo (and everyone who helped). Lucky actually ate the RC s/o diet
tonight! And he is at least going out to the cat boxes in the garage rather
than trying to pee in the house. We have some anti-inflammatory to help
with his urgency I hope.
Hopefully we're crossing a bridge toward better health for Lucky! I know I
can feed him separately, the problem is, the other cats still eat the dry
food, and I need to keep him out of it.
Wish us well!
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

Since there was no evidence of crystals, Id just go for a high meat
canned food (like the EVO 95% varieties), without the acidifiers. Using that
could incline him towards oxylate stones, which are much more difficult to
deal with.

I had been feeding them all EVO dry food. I'm going to try Lucky on
Royal Canin SO diet (canned). My fingers are crossed he'll eat it!
