Jenn, I just love you for your message! I just had to laugh so hard (but quietly since I am still at work) I am so glad (or relieved for that matter) that I am not the only freaky cat lady on universe You remind me so much of myself and I am very grateful that I am on this list to find people like you (or like myself for that matter) - Every time I cant find any of my cats (and most likely because they hide and they dont come out right away when their names are called but I never leave house until I make sure that all of my cats are inside of the house safely (thats a total of 60 of them!) I would blame on my friend, Greg, HONEY, do you think you let Oh-Oh-Oh out or do you think you got Mary Jane, out by accident??? I cant find them where are they?? And he would say no but I would just keep asking him, do you think you might have left a door open for a second and got out? One time, he did get Oh-Oh-Oh out, and we did not even know about it (we had grocery bags and it was night time) he went on walking for a block or two, and if it wasnt because of the moon light on the street, I would never found him this is not a shy cat, and wont stay at one place like a normal cat, he just keeps walking to explore like there is no tomorrow Since then, I told my boyfriend, honey, this cant be happening, we are not going to use this front door anymore, I cant afford to lose him or anyone for that matter, lets use the back door where the dogs are going forward!!! so I drove him crazy and couldnt live with me like that --- so he moved out to the next house where there is no cat in the house (until Carl but I am moving Carl to my house with George shortly) .. Re: OT - 2 things
I really just do not know what he was thinking. I still ask myself WHY? What was the purpose of that. I guess we must have pissed him off earlier that day, and he was just out for revenge. LOL! Then there was the one time he ran out the back door (this was about a month before the bed peeing episode). So we run out into the yard, to try to catch him, and as we approach, he growls and folds his ears back. So we kneel down, and try to sweet talk him into letting us catch him, but then he begins to make this horrible WAILING sound, intermixed with growls and hisses. At this point, I'm like, whoa, he is serious, he does NOT want to come back in, and I say, well, he will come back in a while. My boyfriend, on the other hand, is not going to let Doobie risk his life just for a night out catting, so I go up to the steps and sit down, and watch, and he approaches Doobie. He reaches down, amidst this HORRIBLE wailing and growling, and goes to grab Doobie, and bring him in, and as he is bending down to get him, Doobie suddenly just comes FLYING through the air at his face, arms outstretched, and claws flying, making the most horrific sound you have ever hear from a cat. In fact it was SO scary that I doubt any of you have ever HEARD a cat make this kind of noise (he sounded like a jaguar)! And so Jeff, (that's my boyfriend's name) jumps back real quick, and luckily, Doobie only gets his shin. Jeff's got blood running down his leg, and Doobie is now in crouched down pissed off cat mode, and making more of those noises, so Jeff finally says "Ok man, you win!" and as we watch, Doobie goes through a hole in the back fence and disappears. Now, mind you, we are worried to death, but it's only about 5 PM, so I figure, when it's getting dark, Doobie will probably come home (I'm hoping he can FIND his way home, since he has NEVER been outside before). We pace the floors for about 2 hours, and then I go out into the back yard, and call Doobie (He comes to Frank Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night" tune of "Doobie-doobie do, doob doobie doobie, Doobie-doobie Do!) and low and behold, Doobie's body appears over the top of the fence, and he jumps down back into the yard, and walks up to me like "Hey, what's up, how's it going?" as if NOTHING ever happened! He gets closer, and I see he is limping, on one leg, and his face is all clawed up... He'd been out fighting, I'm sure, over a female (mind you, he's not neutered yet, and he's almost 18 months old). So, I open the door, and let him in, and one of our other rescue cats at the time, LAYS into him, and basically kicks his butt, right there in the kitchen. As if to say, "Hey you moron, where did you think YOU were going, I'm going to show you where YOUR place is!". So, in the end, he abscessed in 3 legs, and once on his neck, and he couldn't walk for about 2 weeks straight. But, I tell you what, I found a new respect for domestic cats after that day. I never FEARED housecats before, but that day, I learned, IF they wanted to, they could KILL YOU! He has, to this day, NEVER repeated that type of behavior. We are not sure what the deal was that day, but we are glad he got over it! Heres what I do and its not perfect solution but its better than peeing on the carpet I put a litter box (with no litter) all over the house, whether its on the couch or on the carpet and put a towel in it and they will pee there again you still have to wash towels (can be old rugs), but at least your couch or carpet is protected by litter box between again I am not sure if this is something you are looking for but thats how I started protecting things that cant be washed so easily.. From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of catatonya Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2005 7:12 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: OT - 2 things Hi all, I have a question some of you might have some advice on. Some of my cats are continually urinating in inappopriate places. They are not spraying, but they will go in 2 different corners of my bedroom and my sofa! :( I now put down puppy pads on top of the carpet in my bedroom and fold an old towel on the top. I have to change these every day. Also, if I leave clothes or a rug on the floor they will go on those as well. I keep my sofa covered with a waterproof mattress cover and put a sheet on top of that. It too, has to be changed almost daily! Two of my cats, sneaker and popeye, have always gone in the bedroom, but now my positive, DD is doing it too. What is really weird is that when I change the pads, towels, sheet, whatever to clean ones, she will go and lay in that spot. Then she'll turn around and pee in the same place she was previously laying. It's like she can't wait for me to put fresh linen down to go lay there and then later pee on it. My bed has been doused a couple of times even. Any suggestions? I am moving at the end of July into a new house and I'd really like to stop this behavior with the move.I'm also getting a new sofa.Any ideas? One thing I think I will do is put feliway diffusers in every room of the new house before I move the cats over. Someone recently posted somewhere to get them very cheaply. Could you repost that info? I have tried these in the past witihout much success, but I'm hoping with a new place and really overloading the house with them it will help. All the cats are healthy, and have had bloodwork, urinalysis etc In fact I have another cat with a urinary infection right now and he doesn't do this. Secondly, I know it went around on the lists about PETA killing the animals in North Carolina. I received a new email that stated that peta took the animals from shelters who still use gas chambers for euthanasia. They stated that they could not find homes for all the animals from these rural shelters, but they thought it was better for them to be humanely euthanized rather than gas. Being from Georgia, where some shelters still gas, I know this is true. The letter also stated that peta had given some of these shelters thousands of dollars to improve their facilities as well. So that's their side of the story. The truth may be somewhere in the middle. But I know if I could get the animals from the gas chamber shelters here and euthanize them humanely I would. tonya

That's a good idea Hideyo. My Queen Ursula is a sprayer and the feliway does help with her, (as long as I remember to keep spraying the stuff). I know what her problem is, she gets pissed, (literally), whenever, we, her humble servants, displease her. Gypsy is the one who all out urinates on soft bedding, (poor Zevon, his bed is her favorite spot!). Gypsy started the behavior when she was very, very sick. I think she preferred using cloth to the litter box, because she had sores on her legs and the litter was irritating to her sensitive skin. She was also so weak, that I'm guessing, that whatever was close by and absorbent was fine with her, she too enjoys sleeping on the same stuff she will later pee on. (It ain't dog behavior, I'll tell you that!) She's so much stronger now, but she will still urinate on the occasional laundry pile. Even Ursa does that though. Poor Bruce was sent screaming from the bedroom the other week when he unknowingly tried to slip on a pair of pee-soaked jeans he'd left lying on the floor next to the bed. It was right after he'd taken a shower too! You'd think we'd become better housekeepers around here, but so far we're being slow learners. RE: OT - 2 things
Hi, Nina, I am sorry it's probably not supposed to, but your message gave me a good laugh :) -just because I go through very very same thing with Bruce and you. I put clothes on to go to work and start sniffing at work, huh...I smell like a cat pee and I realized that my cat had peed on my clothes and I was too dull to realize right away - and this happened more than a few times.. I used to have the feliway diffusers everywhere in the house, I had, I think about 8 or 9 diffusers, and of course they run out every several weeks and I either forgot to replace or couldn't afford at that time or something,, and haven't been diligent about it - but I think I should use it again if it's working for you guys. Now I put cushions from the couches laying on the floor after Oreo and JoJo's disk/back surgery - I don't want them to be jumping on the couch since it's too high for some of them, and my vet told me that jumping is a very bad thing for their back..so I started putting the cushions on the floor so that they can use them as their bed or to use as a step stool to jump on the couch - and now some of my dogs start peeing on these ahhh!!! But, when I am about to go nuts, I always try to remind my self of my priority - as long as they are healthy, I shouldn't complain - though my house is never gonna look (or smell like for that matter) ones from country living magazine or architectural digest - but they are my angels and my very reasons for living - I just have to continue to be creative or develop a really tough skin so that I am not too irritated by these things... -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Nina Sent: Friday, July 01, 2005 2:38 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: Re: OT - 2 things That's a good idea Hideyo. Ladies, I am in your cat pee club! It used to be just Antonio marking and Elavil then Prozac helped ... didn't stop altogether. Then after a couple of years why spend the money or give him the drugs since he didn't stop and others started. Sam never peed outside the box but I witnessed him fully dosing the (towel covered) toaster so I suppose he is the guilty one for hitting the back of the cupboard. Minnie Lu pees on the stove during the night or early morning. Now Emily (?) began a spot in the garage. I think she is upset because the present three kitties there with her harrass her and the past three liked her and either played with her or ignored her. Most everything in my house has been "hit" either marking or all out bladderful. Feliway didn't do anything. I love them though. She was also so weak, that I'm guessing, that whatever was close by and absorbent wasfine with her, she too enjoys sleeping on the same stuff she will later pee on. (It ain't dog behavior, I'll tell you that!) She's so much stronger now, but she will still urinate on the occasional laundry pile.Even Ursa does that though. Poor Bruce was sent screaming from the bedroom the other week when he unknowingly tried to slip on a pair of pee-soaked jeans he'd left lying on the floor next to the bed. It was right after he'd taken a shower too! Re: OT - 2 things
Hideyo, I'm glad you got a chuckle out of our pee soaked lives. Bruce and I laugh about it too, just not right away! Uugh, how miserable to be at work all day smelling like cat pee. Were people keeping their distance from you? You can usually tell an animal person by the fur on their clothing, but the smell on their clothing would be a dead give-away too! It's amazing what we'll put up with for the love of our animals. I went to pick up some newsletters to fold at this woman's house, she opened the door and in her living room, (where chairs and couches normally would be), there were four, or five cat trees, and assorted jungle gym type play structures. Yep, it's easy to pick out the suckers! I haven't tried the diffusers for Ursula. There on the list, but the list is oh, so long. The dogs peeing on the floor cushions is an unusual behavior for them, I wonder if one of the kitties had gotten to them first. Zevon, (my GSD), absolutely refuses to allow someone else's urine to remain alone, he has to pee over wherever anyone else has peed. Thank goodness he hasn't started doing that in the house! How are Oreo and JoJo doing? How's Ginger? I guess I could spend all afternoon typing your kids names here... Why don't you just give us a brief update on how everyone is doing? :) Did you hear back from Kerry? I emailed her off-list too and haven't heard anything yet. I neglected to mention that one of Ursula's favorite spots is the kitchen counter, also only in the middle of the night. Uugh, the toaster and the stove though, that's much worse! At least the kitchen counter cleans up easily, not that it makes much difference when I forget and leave clean dishes out to dry there. There's nothing like washing wine glasses over and over again! I'm waiting for the day I don't catch it. I can just see the crinkled up noses when my guests comment on the interesting bouquet! It does help knowing why they do these things, at least it helps a little. It's impossible to cater to them completely, well, I guess not impossible, all I'd have to do to please Ursula is kick every other cat in the house to the curb! Yes, I think those of us in the 'pee club' can truly come out of the closet and not suffer alone any longer!!! I'm really, really hoping that when I move some of this will stop. There will be more room for the cats and I will be able to put litterboxes in different places. I know a lot of my pee problem is from certain (I won't name names!) ones who stalk and intimidate others on the porch where I keep all the litter pans. tonyaHideyo Yamamoto [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Right on, Nina - I have removed everything from the kitchen counter - Ino longer have toasters, or bread box or anything because they keeppeeing on them - I just feel better knowing that I am not alone in this, Nina...Hideyo-Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED][mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of NinaSent: Friday, July 01, 2005 3:48 PMTo: felvtalk@felineleukemia.orgSubject: Re: OT - 2 thingsI neglected to mention that one of Ursula's favorite spots is the kitchen counter, also only in the middle of the night. LOL, that's why Doobie got neutered. We were sound asleep one night, and all of a sudden, it got warm and wet on our backs. He had peed about a gallon of stinky tom cat pee on top of all of our covers, at just about shoulder level, and it had soaked all the way through the comforter, blanket, sheet, and US! I was SO mad, I called the vet at 7:00 AM that morning, and said "I have a cat that needs to have his nuts chopped off TODAY!", and they fit him right in. He has NEVER peed on the bed since. I think when I told him "OH, buddy, you are gonna PAY for this one!" he realized I was serious when I loaded him up and took him to the vet first thing that morning, and that night when he was flopping around in a drunken stupor minus two testicles! To say he learned a lesson is putting it mildly. I know, it's mean to neuter a cat as punishment, but he REALLY asked for that one! He might have stayed a tom for his entire life, if he hadn't pulled that trick! Now, when he's being bad, and I say "Don't you EVEN think about it!" he generally stops! I also trim claws as punishment around here. One cat scratches another, that cat gets a claw trimming. They hate it, because they can't do wild acrobatics on the cat tree when they don't have claws. Oh, hey, you guys recall me saying how my girl cat doesn't use the box, but will go in front of it, or in an empty box with no filler? Well, onmany people'sadvise, I went and bought a new large UNcovered litterbox and I have not found any pee on the floor since. It WAS the covered boxes, she felt trapped in them, I think! You guys STILL get visitors? Heck, I scared all of those away a long time ago. They all are scared of the "crazy cat lady" now, because every time someone would come over, I would open the door a tiny crack, and then, if they were someone I wanted to allow inside, and would open the door about a foot wide, and rush them in, all the time SCREAMING "GET BACK, BACK BACK! " to the cats while telling them, "You've got to get in or out fast, so the cats don't get out!", and then the times when my boyfriend opened the door, those are the worst, because he doesn't rush the guests in fast enough, so from across the room, I'm screaming "GET IN OR SHUT THE DOOR YOU STUPID IDIOTS! YOU CAN'T JUST HOLD IT OPEN LIKE THAT!" "IN OR OUT, IN OR OUT!!!". And then sometimes when they were leaving, they would like to stand IN the door and talk to my boyfriend, with it OPEN, so I'd have to scream at them more "IN or OUT, Shut the F*cking door!!" and then as I'm saying that, I'm DIVING across the floor, waving my hands, and screaming, "SHUT THE DOOR, SHUT THE DOOR!!" Yeah, I'm not making this up. lol, yeah, I've pretty much eliminated houseguests now. It's great, they were SUCH a hassle. Tonya www.healthypets.com Has the feliways cheap and 2.95 for shipping as much as you want and over $100something is free. I use them and like their service all and all they have the best prices when you add the shipping in so far that I found! I would use the plug ins but after cleaning use the spray too! Spray works better in my house. As for your sofa, my x brought in a used sofa in great shape well until then never had a pee problem with cats, I think the past owner had a cat and the cat's smell was on the sofa so I battled the pee on the sofa. I found 2 things that worked well. One I bought Get Serious (sold Foster smith) and in Petsmarts. You put it in the micro and heat then spray and dap and dry. I used a blow dryer cos I was in a rush. Also Foster and Smith sells Cat Detgerrent I swear by this stuff. If you can wash you can get the smell out with this stuff. Soak the area then put in wash with more CD and the smell is gone. I had a bedspread that became a marking zone and I did this and it stopped the war. Last month the one cat go excited (happy) and wet the bed spread soaked the spot washed and fine and dandy. We cleaned the carpet with Odoban (from the pet store), and use the Feliway diffusers. You don't need one in every room, I think they work for 600 sq. feet. We did plug one in next to her favorite non-litter box potty sopt, and that helped. The Feliway was empty ONE day, and she went right there. We buy them on ebay for pretty good prices (vendor overstock I think). Good luck!! Erika

If only there were enough homes for all the ones that DO die by gassing. Here is a great group that works to save as many animals as possible from that very fate, if you are interested in signing up to see how HUGE the problem is. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/caarr/ Jennhttp://ucat.ushttp://ucat.us/domesticcatlinks.html ~~~I collect KMR kitten formula labels for Bazil, a 3 yr old special needs cat who must live on a liquid diet for the rest of his life.Bazil's caretaker collects labels and sends them to KMR, where they add up until she earns a free can of formula!PLEASE save your KMR kitten formula labels for Bazil! If you use KMR, even just one can, please ask me for the mailing address you can send them to, to help feed Bazil! No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. RE: OT - 2 things
1-st thing I think there are lots of reasons for the urinating. From my personal experience, I know that cats use to do this if they don't like some recent changes you had made in the house. Jersey used to urinate onto my bed. This was when my ex-roomate moved and he liked her. If you have started packing the staff for the new house , that is possible. Cats have good intuition. 2- nd thing. I ave missed this discussion. Is it possible to adopt tha cats that are endangered? I'm also getting a new sofa. Any ideas? One thing I think I will do is put feliway diffusers in every room of the new house before I move the cats over.Someone recently posted somewhere to get them very cheaply.Could you repost that info?I have tried these in the past witihout much success, but I'm hoping with a new place and really overloading the house with them it will help. All the cats are healthy, and have had bloodwork, urinalysis etcIn fact I have another cat with a urinary infection right now and he doesn't do this.Secondly,I know it went around on the lists about PETA killing the animals in North Carolina.I received a new email that stated that peta took the animals from shelters who still use gas chambers for euthanasia. They stated that they could not find homes for all the animals from these rural shelters, but they thought it was better for them to be humanely euthanized rather than gas.Being from Georgia, where some shelters still gas, I know this is true. The letter also stated that peta had given some of these shelters thousands of dollars to improve their facilities as well.So that's their side of the story. The truth may be somewhere in the middle. But I know if I could get the animals from the gas chamber shelters here and euthanize them humanely I would.tonya
RE: OT - 2 things
Thanks Stan, This has been going on for at least 2 years. The sofa started this past year. So I don't know of any changes. I do notice that they usually do it when I'm not home a lot and do it less when I'm home more on vacation. Although I have seen them do it right in front of me at times! The peta thing was referring to an article about peta taking animals from shelters in north carolina and euthanizing them. The north carolina shelters said they 'thought they were all being given good homes.' tstany petrov [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: 1-st thing I think there are lots of reasons for the urinating.
