Just wondering if anyone has tried this ..
When installing FM (8 or 9) in a VMWare image of Windows XP on a Mac ..
install to a "Shared" folder (mounted with a drive letter) so that the
installation files will be available to other images of Windows on that

I'd go with TCS2 so that you've got all of the bases covered, and as
time permits, experiment with other options that may free you from
proprietary processing where appropriate.

DITA content (authored in FM or other XML editors) to the ePub format.

Many plugins seem to work fine on FM8. Your best bet is to grab the
trial version of FM8 and test them. When you do, send an email to the
list and let us know the results. You might also email your plugin
vendors and see if they've done any testing.

You definitely don't need to uninstall FM7 to install the FM8 trial.
In the dialog that asks for the serial number *should* be an option to
choose the "30 Day Trial" which doesn't need a serial number. It's right
below the serial number fields .. run it again and see if you missed it.

I'm not aware of any way to use source control for binary files (FM or
otherwise) other than just being able to know if the file has changed
(even that may not really be very accurate). And there's no way to do a
useful diff of two FM files other than using the Compare utility in FM.

It would be nice if there was some read/write rule that allowed you to
enable the exporting of "default" values, of some way to make them more
real ..

This may be too obvious, and not customizable, but the use of a Numeric
Underline does basically what you're asking for (as long as the line
doesn't wrap).
In addition to the table method described, I've also seen this done
using an anchored frame (At Insertion Point) at the end of the
