Well, the thing is I think make.conf disappeared from /etc/defaults because there's no default defined for the system. If you take /etc/defaults/rc.conf for exemple, you can see that cron is enabled by default --> you can override this by setting it in /etc/rc.conf ; but for make.conf, there's nothing defined, everything is commented by default, so there's no overrides. ___ [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions To unsubscribe, send any mail to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

apache segfault (11)
Hi :) I'm having a very big problem with latest apache from ports under 5.2.1. First let me say that all my ports are up-to-date. Now, I use Apache+php+mysql with Horde for webmail. Since a couple of days, the webmail is almost impossible to use, login in takes forever and usually ends with an error page saying couldn't get http://www.domain.com/horde/blablabla.php In the Apache logs (debug), I only get this: [notice] child pid 68233 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) I tried to look everywhere but couldn't find a answer for this problem. The top command issue a regular line, no strange processes eating the CPU... Any idea ? USB problems
Hi :) I'm running FreeBSD-5.2.1-p5 and I'm having a problem with USB. Basically, I have 2 USB ports on my box: - on one there's a USB2 harddrive (running in USB1.1 compat mode; I did not compile ehci into the kernel because I was having kernel panic on boot) - on the other, there's an USB hub connected (with 3 devices connected to the hub) After some time (usually around 12 to 24h), the devices on the USB hub are not accessible anymore and I have to unplugg then replugg the hub power switch again for the devices to work. This does _not_ happen when I unplugg the USB harddrive (I unplugged it for like a week and had no problem). Note that _all_ my devices have a power switch. So my questions would be: - do you know where this problem could come from ? - do you have any idea how I could maybe send some data to the USB port to keep it alive ? Thanks in advance. make.conf CFLAGS and ports
Hi :) I was just wondering how CFLAGS were managed with make.conf and ports building. Indeed, today I just realized that what's in make.conf overwrite the default build for ports. I have this in my make.conf: CFLAGS= -O -pipe I though those were the right settings for building the world, but, I just realized while building kde-3.2 that the ports should build with -O2 (from the Mk or Makefile file I guess) but because of what I have in my make.conf, it builds like this: -O2 -O -pipe -march=pentium3, and since the last optimisation settings wins, kde-3.2 is build with: -O -pipe -march=pentium3. I suppose this is normal behaviour, but does this mean I have to comment CFLAGS everytime I build a port, so that it gets its default optimisation or is there another way ? My dream configuration would be: CFLAGS= -O -pipe for building the world CFLAGS= -O -pipe for building ports, EXCEPT if the Makefile and/or Mk build instructions give a higher optimisation setting. I hope this is understandable, my English is poor when coming to explain stuffs... Thanks for reading me. I set IDE1/slave to NONE is my bios, so the cdrom would not be discovered on boot (temporary solution until it works), but I get the same problem... it just hangs. For now, the only solution is to unplug the cdrom... :( Just to make sure this was not hardware related, Linux and Windows boot fine on the same box with the cdrom pluged-in. Hi :) Somehow, my ports DB got corrupted or something, so I cannot portupgrade anymore :( I updated by cvsup to see if it changed something, but id didn't... This is the command I issued after cvsuping: # cd /usr/ports # make index && portsdb -u && pkgdb -Fvu If you have any idea, I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance. I can't attache gdb to it because rpc.lockd wouldn't work for clients. So I analysed to core file again and didn't get much info: Core was generated by `rpc.lockd'. source routing and dynamic @ip
Hi :) Allright, so, I've been trying to build a routing setup for some weeks now, and after looking everywhere and asking for help, I still cannot find the answer. ntpd does not work under 5.2
Hi :) I'm trying to configure ntpd under 5.2-RELEASE, but I think there might be a bug or something. My configuration used to work under 4.x but now I get errors. can't re-use a leaf (if_tun_debug)
Hi :) I just upgraded from 5.1-CURRENT to 5.2-RELEASE today, but I still have the same problem I was having before. When booting the box, I get the following error: module_register: module if_tun already exists! Module if_tun failed to register: 17 can't re-use a leaf (if_tun_debug)! It looks like FreeBSD wants to load the if_tun module but I already have "device tun" in my kernel config file. I deleted /etc/rc.d/* then did a "mergemaster -i" but it did not change anything. Do you have any idea how I could fix this ? Thanks in advance. routing question
Hello everybody :) I have a routing question and was wondering if FreeBSD was able to do this. I have 2 ISPs (so 2 connections). Can I use only one FreeBSD box as a gateway to: - route LAN --> INTERNET (using connection 1) - route DMZ --> INTERNET (using connection 2) - route LAN --> DMZ (simple routing through the gateway) The gateway would have either one of the 2 connections as default gateway. I do not need any kind of load-balance nor failover for now, just routing. Thanks in advance. rdist to update some lines
Hi :) I'm actually using rdist for centralized management of certain files (/etc/hosts, /etc/motd...). Is there a way to use rdist (or any other tools alike) too update a file on a remote server instead of blindly copying the new file over ? What I mean is, for exemple, I would like to share some lines in /etc/make.conf among my servers (but not the entire file), but all of them aren't the same so I do not want /etc/make.conf to be the exact same on all my boxes, only like 3 or 4 lines. Is there a way to do this ? Note that I already had a look at cfengine which does what I'm asking, but it is way too complicated/feature rich for my needs. I would appreciate any inputs... poor NFS performance in 5.x
Hi :) I upgraded two boxes to FreeBSD-5.2-BETA a week ago and I noticed that NFS performance is very slow compared to 4.x-RELEASE. Before, NFS transfers were between 10 and 12 MB/s and now I don't go past 7 MB/s. My exports/mount settings did not change and the hardware is obviously the same. Any idea where I should start looking for resolving this ? It is important since I'm planning on upgrading some servers in the futur and homedir are mounted via NFS. Thanks in advance.
