The speed of the RAM isn't the issue, it's whether or not it's low-
density or high-density RAM. The G3 requires low-density meaning
modules that are populated on both sides by chips, 16 chips total. If
your modules only have 8 chips on one side they're high density and

Subject: Re: PC 3200 400mhz RAM in 1ghz DP MDD. Will it work?
Hi Scott,
PC3200 works
I know all documentation I have found online says to use PC 2700
333mhz RAM with an MDD but I know some computers will just downclock
the RAM if you put faster RAM into the machine. Is this the case with
an MDD G4? I have a lot of PC3200 DDR RAM kicking around and I am
wondering if it would

what happened to the other 1 gig stick of Ram? What causes that and is
it common? How do I fix this?

Well the first thing I'd check is to see if the ram itself had come unseated;
sometimes when it's not quite
fixing the memory
problem (below).

Reboot and see if the gig is still AWOL. If it is, then shutdown and

much performance boost. Then I tried using a
small RAM Disk, 16 MB, and put the Safari cache
there. hum! Interesting. Some pages now load
much faster. And having that memory dedicated to
that virtual disk really hasn't changed the
performance of my already memory-poor machine

I'm trying it on a MacPro running 10.6.6, although I was hesitant to
install anything with such an ugly icon. Despite that it seems to
work.

I've tested my Ram from both dead computers and it's OK according to

I moved the 2 gigs of ram from my dead dualie into this pokey 400mhz
100mhz bus G4. I tested the ram from the dead DA in this computer.
It's all OK.
I can't say what the extent of the damage to the DA
John asked about running the 133 slower, not the 100 faster. The quote
I referenced said that should work fine.

if you could make them run at 133 the CPU would also be

to run RAM at 133 would require some MLB mods. if you enjoy working with

must keep the CPU speed the same while increasing the FSB speed by a third.
must decrease the multiplier.

Is there a speed difference or advantage in RAM speed between PC100 and PC133,
I ask because I'm able to run 256 PC133 low density sticks in one of my
Wallstreet PowerBooks that only will run 256 PC100 normally, it appears that
the low density 256 sticks are the trick. Good to know because
I always check Data Memory Systems.

My G5 is VERY picky about how the RAM is seated. In my experience, all
computers that require matched sets are difficult. I've reseated and
restarted my G5 perhaps 18-20 times before, moving the sticks in matched
slots as required, but in different slots. As soon as the all were
I got some RAM to upgrade my G5 2.5x2
I believe I have it in right but it's not showing up.
I noticed it's 2.6 volt the manual says to use 2.5 volt
Is that gonna be a deal breaker?
