So far no luck. Image capture says there is No Image Capture device

Here is what Apple System Profiler says about the camera:

 USB 1.1 Device:

  Bus Power (mA): 500

  Product ID: 0x0227

Here is the info off the camera itself:

 Model Number: 16380

 Sokar International, Inc.
 195 Carter Drive
 Edison, NJ 08817

In past postings on this subject (toy cameras) we've been calling the
camera Sakar rather than Sakor.

Also, in the past you posted different Product ID# and Vendor ID #.

I think your two cameras of the perhaps the same model but DIFFERENT
on the inside?

Camera #1 is Product ID: 0x905c and Vendor ID: 0x2770 Manufacturer: SQ
(Service Quality)
Camere #2 is Product ID: 0x0227 and Vendor ID: 0x0979 Manufacturer:
Jeilin

For Camera #1, I don't believe it's likely you've installed the
drivers correctly. These OS X drivers were very old, so they may not
work in 10.4.11, but, here we go again:

The drivers were available here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20070806172233/http://www.spectraintl.com/xdlds/SS702%20OS.sit

After you expand the .sit archive you'll have a folder called 905C
OSX10.1 in which there are two components. One is an OS X installer
package, the other is a Quicktime component. You'll need to place the
Video905C.component into the HDLibraryQuicktime folder. I don't
think there is any ownership permissions requirement for this, so
you can just drag drop Video905C.component into the
HDLibraryQuicktime folder. I believe you'll need to reboot after
this, but I'm not certain?
The installer package will install an application called
MYDSC_905C.app. Install this at the same time you add the component to
Quicktime. After you've rebooted, attach the camera via USB, cross
your fingers, and launch the MYDSC_905C.app and see what happens. This
should only work (if it works at all?) for Camera #1, the Sakar with
IDs 0x905c and 0x2770.
IF this works for Camera #1, and the two cameras are VERY similar,
there's a chance you could modify the application to work with Camera
#2 also. To do this, you'd need to Ctl-click the application and Show
Package Contents and then go the the info.plist file inside the
application and add the new PID VID to the listing. If you can't
make the application work with Camera #1, there is little or no chance
it would work with Camera #2, so this is something to think about IF
you get Camera #1 working.

You're supposed to you their application, MYDSC_905C.app. If
MYDSC_905C.app won't work, I think you're out of luck in OS X.

You should probably use a windows PC to use to download the photos.
Once they're downloaded, it's easy to move them to the Mac.

And for the record, my folder was called 905C OSX10.3

You're correct, my mistake. When you unstuff duplicates it makes the
2nd copy with a different numerical ending. I stupidly created not one
or two copies, but six copies, which were called 905C OSX10.1 thru
905C OSX10.6. I mistakenly assumed that 10.1 would be the original,
and the others were all duplicates. Interesting that when then
original has a .3 at the end, StuffIt creates a .1, and then .2, and
then skips the original and proceeds higher for each successive
duplicate.

When you use Find, you need to add System Files include and then
you'll find it in SystemLibraryImage CaptureDevices. If the other
QuickTime component is in place, it looks like this is a plugin for
Image Capture. Also, in the original folder, perhaps that small 4k

Re: Digital Camera

2009-09-06 Thread WhyOSX

IMO the GraphicConverter is one of the best apps ever (I use it since a version
1.7.6 appeared in ~1994).
With 5.9.3 it got so many functions, it is nearly as useful as Photoshop.
It is loaded much faster and: look at the pricing.
A Version 6.something is also available for a few dollars.
There are updates every few weeks.
And it is better than iPhoto anyway (i hated iPhoto the first moment I used it).

Use a simple card reader if you can't attach the camera directly.
Maybe there is some dirt or corrosion in the cameras slots.

ago, July 2007, you'd know that Stephen's camera (now two cameras)
don't have any removable memory cards. These are toy cameras sold as
Crayola, or Disney, etc. The only way to get anything off the
camera is via USB cable. He'll either need to get the OS X software
working (for one of these two cameras), or find a PC to install the
Windows software onto.

Re: Digital Camera

2009-09-06 Thread WhyOSX

Oh, I'm quite new to this group (just a few days).
And I don't know that camera model.
I wanted to help...
Try out Dan's recommendation of the GraphicConverter.
On the other hand there are acceptable digicams for less than U$ 100.
Depends on yout personal pretension.
Lars

I had this same problem and I had no luck at all so I just went
out and bought one of those devices you plug the card into and plug
that into the computer to get the pictures... It has slots in it for
every type of card (flashcard, SD and SD mini etc etc etc) !!!

Digital Camera

2009-09-05 Thread Stephen Conrad

OK, I am now using OS X 10.4.11 on a Quicksilver
I thought I'd try again to se if I could access 2 older Digital
Cameras (both are the same model) so I downloaded Macam 0.9.2 (after
searching for Macam OS X 10.4.11) and the Driver for that camera
(SS702, got it from a link off this list).
So far no luck. Image capture says there is No Image Capture device
connected and Macam does not see the camera either.

Here is what Apple System Profiler says about the camera:

USB 1.1 Device:

  Version: 1.00
  Bus Power (mA): 500
  Speed:Up to 12 Mb/sec
  Manufacturer: Jeilin
  Product ID: 0x0227
  Vendor ID:0x0979

Here is the info off the camera itself:

Model Number: 16380

Sokar International, Inc.

Just throwing out random thought FWIW Ok?

Does the cam have a removable card? If you take it out does iASP say the
same thing? If so; Dirty card edge or slot?

If ASP sees the cam why does it ( OS X ) not *go* to the cam?

H!? Cable dirty on 1 connector only? Try cleaning all USB Ports and
both ends of cable?

Or;

Worn or frayed cable? Interior wear or breakage unseen from outside. Try
connecting other device with that cable? See if *IT* works.

Is the camera battery fully charged? Mine won't transfer pics without full
battery power.
Dirty battery terminals.

I would love to know if any of my guesses are correct.

Good luck,

You only get this with Quicktime Pro, and possibly the Macam QT driver.

I think I've found the correct drivers. You may have been able to find them
yourself if you knew how, so I'll tell you exactly how I found them so you may
be able to find them for yourself next time:

1) I identified the camera better. To do this I used the #'s you provided
36956 ($905c) for a Google search in order to find the Vendor ID # which you
didn't include. Normally you need BOTH a Device ID# and Vendor ID# to identify
a piece of hardware. I determined that the Vendor ID was likely 10096 and the
Device ID was 36956.

2) Using Calculator.app, under ViewProgrammer with the Dec (decimal) button
selected, I inserted each of the decimal IDs and then hit the Hex button to
convert them to the more common hexadecimal versions, in your case these would
be 0x905c and 0x2770. I then used the search terms 0x905c 0x2770 Macintosh in
Google without the quotes.

3) In the Google search results for 0x905c 0x2770 Macintosh the 7th hit was
for macam : Support Cameras for which I selected the Cached link to get the
search terms highlighted for quicker scanning:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=enclient=safarirls=en-usq=0x905c+0x2770+macintoshaq=foq=aqi=

4) The fifth row of the Cached macam : Support Cameras webpages list the
camera with your matching hexadecimal Device Vendor IDs and under Status
says depends (OEM) which means support isn't provided by Macam, but IS
provided by OEM software. In the List of Cameras above the chart, it says of
the 773 cameras in the database, 460 work in OS X, of which 401 work with
Macam, 18 with OEM supplied drivers (yours appears to be one of these lucky 18,
hurrah!).

5) In that 5th row of the Cached macam : Support Cameras webpage where your
highlighted camera is located, under the Model row, the any camera with
matching IDs is an active link, leading to this page:
http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/cameras/camera.php?id=364
Under the row Camera notes: it says:
Support for these cameras is proveded by the OEM. For example see:
http://www.spectraintl.com/xsp/ss702updates.html
BINGO! A link for the OS X driver!

6) Opps! The link is dead. No driver. Plan two. Go to the Internet Archive
Wayback Machine at:
http://www.archive.org/web/web.php
and place the dead link into the Wayback Machine field and hit the Take Me
Back button.
Bingo! There are eight archived copies of this page representing seven
different versions of the page (the asterisk marks pages with changes from the
previous archived version, in this case, only one page is identical to a
preceding version). You'll want the last (most recent) archived page from Aug
06, 2007:
http://web.archive.org/web/20070806172233/http://www.spectraintl.com/xsp/ss702updates.html

7) On the Aug 06, 2007 archive page is a link for the Mac OS10 Driver for
SS702 and the OS10 Installation Instructions (pdf). These Wayback Machine
archives sometimes don't have the attached files, but if you click these links,
you are in luck, the OS X drivers for your camera are archived, and will
download if you click the links:
http://web.archive.org/web/20070806172233/http://www.spectraintl.com/xdlds/SS702%20OS.sit
http://web.archive.org/web/20070806172233/http://www.spectraintl.com/xdlds/SS702_MAC_OSX_Installation_Guide.pdf

There are also OS 9 drivers if you need them.

8) The OS X driver is a Stuffit .sit file, so this means you'll need to have
Stuffit installed in order to expand the driver file. Hopefully, this driver
file will enable your camera to finally work? I believe this is the third time
someone has asked about these cheap cameras, and the first time a download for
an actual driver has been located. Normally stuff archived on the Internet
Archive never disappear, but I'd grab these drivers and instructions fast just
in case.

I know this search process to locate these drivers was complex, but now you see
the process on how they can be located even when the drivers were deleted from
the original website over 2 years ago. Let us know if these drivers work for
you. Good luck!
