update. While some of the standard libraries become out of date the process
doesn't usually happen so fast if a propper standard is followed. Java is
Hi Charles,
Well, that may be, but regardless of what we think Microsoft isn't
exactly going to change their minds. They have their opinion we have
ours, and we either have to roll with the change or get left behind as
we stick with XP until our computers fall apart and their are no more
upgrades

Hi Charles,
Well, in that case the only answer I can give you and the others is go
Linux. Then, you don't have to end up paying for upgrades etc. If you
don't like that solution to the problem then there is really nothing
anyone can do for you guys.
There is really no point incontinuing this
Hi Willem,
Oh, absolutely. I agree with you. I am also a fan of open source for
exactly those points you made.
With Linux software upgrades are simply just upgrades. Open Office,
for example, has the same relative interface it always has had since
1.0. It has more features, several bug fixes, etc

I aggree with you on that.
I personally thought the office 97 and later 2003 interface works out
of the box.
so does the win xp interface.
ie 6 works well to well its interface does.
But people normal people want fancy buttons and search boxes.
If there was a way to run the older win interface

Hi Charles,
Well
I do wonder though, why they can't put in the classic mode.
Afterall, it's not just the wiz kid computer junkies who will buy newer
versions, it's people like my dad, who are absolutely computer novices and
find the hole business with menue ribbons and flashy graphical shenanigans

well I think the xp interface is supperia to win 9x ever was.

Hi Dark,
I think it is a case of won't rather than can't. they could do
anything they want in terms of going back to classic mode as they
shode with Windows XP, but Microsoft just decided to enforce the new

I do find it slightly odd that they don't considder a less cluttered and

therefore they pretty much dictate, and everyone, blind, sited, novice,
