Assunto: Re: [Audyssey] ran across a very random mod for half life 2

It's a shame that halflife has limited development potential for audio
gaming purposes. I've played just a bit of it, thanks to a sited
friend, and the environment is rich in sound sources. There are so
many mainstream videogames out there that, with just a tweek here or
there, would be simply amazing as audio games.

One example of this is the abandonware game Take No Prisoners. I
actually played this game with a friend over intranet and was able to
aim well enough due to the environment that he'd pick out all the
visible targets and I'd stand behind him, make him duck, and take out
the farther off targets with a longrange gun. We actually had even
scores pretty much by the end of the game. There are aspects, like
piloting various vehicles, that would be difficult, but the whole
thing is very quake-like. I can send the directory containing the game
to anyone that might be interested. If you enable the endless ammo
cheat, you can even use a particular weapon as a sort of sonar. The
bolts of the crossbow make different sounds if they hit walls, doors,
people, or equipment. It's not perfect, but it works well enough to
keep one amused for some time at least.

Hello Alex.

I've actually been in contact with the developer of that Mod in the past,
 - there's a topic about it somewhere on audiogames.net with a link
to a utube vid of someone playing it (though not doing too well).

I wasn't able to try it myself being totally without a copy of halflife
2, but I do know someone visually impared who does. he said it was a fun
play, but several factors also made it more complex, such as the
fact that instead of walls to the playing area, you can just endlessly
 walk in one direction.

Also, while it's a great idea and advert for audio games, the problem was
the developer had to specifically create and place all of the sound
objects and sources in the Mod, for the mod.

Many objects in the actual halflife 2 game do not unfortunately have
properties which could be modified to have them create sound, or have
the player have tools such as a sonar.

All navigation in the Mod is done by specifically placed sound objects,

and according to my friend who tried the game (who also has played shades
of doom), the spacing and audio navigation wasn't half as smooth as in
 shades.

so, a fun game, and a great way to get people interested in audio games,
but sadly not an accessible halflife 2, - though the developer did
say he was interested in perhaps making more audio games, maybe
something actually programmed by himself, so it's not all doom and
 gloom.

Beware the Grue!

You shoot enemy ships and listen to them blow up and sink when playing Lone
Wolf. The game is not all that hard to play, either. Rather than just
saying that you hate a game and cannot play it, can you be more, to coin a
phrase, constructively criticismic? Any thoughts on how David Greenwood can
make the game so that you do like it and can play it? Or, what problems are
you having with playing the game? I'm sure that someone or someones can
steer you in the right direction.

Re: [Audyssey] Lonewolf enemy destroyers.

2008-11-25 Thread Dakotah Rickard
I agree that many of our games have a somewhat steep learning curve to
play correctly and effectively. This is also true of many sighted
games, although more of our curves are associated with understanding
our environment. There are some missions in Lone Wolf which I
personally do not like, but that's just because of their
over-complexity. The game, as a whole, has a moderate learning curve
associated with environmental access, fire control, and tracking.
Frankly, I find it to be a realistic representation of what
submariners had to go through. Sure, in a shoot-em-up game, you just
point and fire, usually from less than thirty feet away, but torpedos
had to travel thousands of yards to connect with their targets, a fact
which many of us forget. This sort of targeting and firing takes
finesse and strategy rather than fast reflexes, on most occasions.
The interface itself does include a sort of fire now tone, which is
quite helpful, considering the fact that the player doesn't have to do
the trigonometry himself.

My advice to anyone playing the game and finding it difficult or not
to their liking is this. Lone Wolf was a game designed to take some
practice. Submariners were usually Commanders or Captains in rank.
These people didn't just climb down into a sub and say All right.
Let's see what this puppy can do. on their first days in the Navy.

Anyone can pick up a gun and pull the trigger. It takes skill to be a
submariner.

Hi,
this inaccurate description seems to be refering to a new physics model in
Top Speed 2.1 rather than a mistake. If your car reaches higher speeds, you
will notice that you cannot accelerate and that your speed is actually even
decreased slightly when steering. This is much more realistic than in
previous versions. If the speed was decreased a great deal, or if you had to
steer a sharp curve in the middle of accelerating to a higher gear, the
engine of your car might just not have enough power to maintain the
acceleration again. You will have to shift down a gear to accelerate again.

Re: [Audyssey] Lonewolf enemy destroyers.

2008-11-25 Thread shaun everiss
I do find some missions quite hard especially with moving targets or when coast
lines get in the way.
At 05:19 a.m. 26/11/2008, you wrote:

Frankly, I find it to be a realistic representation of what
submariners had to go through. Sure, in a shoot-em-up game, you just

had to travel thousands of yards to connect with their targets, a fact
which many of us forget.

On the right side of the flipper is the sheriff's office. If you've stolen all

There's one of two choices he's gotta make. Either hang ya or take it to the

This is not the case. Every time I go into a gun fight Win or Lose you lose

fair that you lose your ball period weather you are in a gun fight, hung or
jus get locked up. You do not lose your ball when you win a fight in the
saloon so how come you do not keep your current ball when you beat the sheriff.
Yes you get 2.5 mill for shooting him but it kinda sucks if it is your last
ball and you win the gun fight only to still lose your ball. Well Just thought
I would bring this up in case Josh or someone from Draconnis could address
this. Well Time to go and visit Old Man Stanley's house to see what he is up
too. Game On All! Sly!Who wants a new party pack with a pool type table. 8

I thought I wouldn't say anything, because what I have to say can be taken
wrongly. But as you already said some of what I feel, Charles, I'll just
add.

I can't stand it if someone says they don't like a game, and this has
happened many times, because they couldn't figure out how to play it. In
reality they couldn't play it and can't really give an opinion. That's all
they know.

Take the example of games on the ps3. If I now won a lottery and bought me a
psp or ps3 without any preparation and try and play the games without help
at first, I won't accomplish anything. The same will happen if I buy a game
and not read the manual. The fact that I couldn't play a game does not
entitle me to say that I don't like a game just because I couldn't play it.
Picture this conversation... Someone asks me how I like the games I've
bought on the psp/ps3. I answer I don't like it. why? Uh I didn't know
how to turn it on. did you read the manual? Uh um not yet.

If you don't like a specific genre of game, fair enough, but you can't
offer an opinion on something you don't know anything about.

Just to clear any confusion up, I don't know anything about the playstation

You shoot enemy ships and listen to them blow up and sink when playing
Lone Wolf. The game is not all that hard to play, either. Rather than
just saying that you hate a game and cannot play it, can you be more, to
coin a phrase, constructively criticismic? Any thoughts on how David
Greenwood can make the game so that you do like it and can play it? Or,
what problems are you having with playing the game? I'm sure that someone

I completely agree here with you. Until you give a game a honest attempt
it's wrong to say you don't like it.
Perhaps the keystrokes for LW were too much. But that doesn't make it a
bad game by any means. I've played it many times.

Greetings Gamers! I hope you all are Well. I was playing ESP Pinball
Extreme's Party Pack table Extreme wild west when I happened to notice
something. The game documentation states the following.
On the right side of the flipper is the sheriff's office. If you've
stolen all four horses and happen to land yourself in his office it's
not a good thing.
There's one of two choices he's gotta make. Either hang ya or take it to
the streets for a gunfight! Either way you may end up dead. You have a
chance
at living if the sheriff decides to handle it like men, but if he opts
for the hanging's you're a goner

Notice it states that if he opps for the gun fight you have a chance at
living. This is not the case. Every time I go into a gun fight Win or

Re: [Audyssey] Lonewolf enemy destroyers.

2008-11-25 Thread Charles Rivard
Yes. And doing so takes learning and practice. You don't buy a gun at a
gun shop and already know what to do with it. You learn from someone, then
practice what they taught you until you get proficient enough to use it
safely. In the case of Lone Wolf, your teaching tools can be the user's
manual and experienced gamers, and the practice is known as playing the
game. Nobody does it right the first time without help, I'll bet.

It takes skill to be a
submariner.

Hi.

No, it's not random.

You'll here the character say something along the lines of You'll never
take me alive Sherrif, this is going to be a gun fight then a couple of
bars of western music (I think it's The good, the Bad and the Ugly),
followed by dtwo sterrio gun clicking sounds.

If you fire then, you'll be counted as cheating, but if you wait a second or
two the sherrif will say draw and then be quick with the enter key
(possibly pressing it a couple of times).

If the sheriff decided to take things outside you'd better have some bullets
in that gun of yours. The bullets are located on the bottom side of the
general
store. A total of twelve bullets can be stored in your two six shooters.
Your only given six shots since both guns are fired in unison to increase
your

chances of living.

I just checked it out once again and fired on the sheriff before he said
Draw and I will not say what happends but lets just say it aint pretty. If
you are successful at shoting the sheriff you hear the song, I Shot the
Sheriff then you have to re launch your ball loseing one durring this
process. Seems like if you win the gun fight you should keep your ball and
keep playing like you do when you win the bar room brawl. Game On All!
Sly!

Wait until he says draw, then let him have it with both guns instead of
just one. If you're quick enough, you'll win every time. HTH

Yeah I've noticed that too. It's probably a bug, or even a timing issue.
Perhaps you need to wait till he says drop! before you shoot? Any tips
on this guys?

!

Notice it states that if he opps for the gun fight you have a chance at
living. This is not the case. Every time I go into a gun fight Win or
Lose you lose your ball. I figured if you get shot you lose your ball
but if you shoot the sheriff you get to play on. Is this the way this
should work?? It seems un fair that you lose your ball period weather
you are in a gun fight, hung or jus get locked up. You do not lose
your ball when you win a fight in the saloon so how come you do not keep
your current ball when you beat the sheriff. Yes you get 2.5 mill for
shooting him but it kinda sucks if it is your last ball and you win the
gun fight only to still lose your ball. Well Just thought I would bring
this up in case Josh or someone from Draconnis could address this. Well
Time to go and visit Old Man Stanley's house to see what he is up too.
Game On All! Sly!Who wants a new party pack with a pool type table. 8
ball any one?

[Audyssey] Lone wolf problelms with jaws

2008-11-25 Thread Don Voyles
To whom can help!

I set up another computer with windows 98 version 1 to run dos programs.
Then I loaded up jaws 4.5 because I could not get on the internet at the
time for updating jaws. Then I down loaded lone wolf from David Greenwoods
web site. When I unzipped lone wolf 3.5 it did not want to run all the
sound files. Now it seems to run lone wolf just fine but Jaws 4.5 will not
talk while I am running lone wolf. I tried running jaws first then lone
wolf and then the reverse. Or, running lone wolf then load up jaws but jaws
will not talk. Does any one know what could cause jaws not to work with
lone wolf?

Thanks for any help.

Do you have a newer version of either Windows or JAWS that might work with
the newer version of Lone Wolf? I don't know if that is the problem or not,
but I'm just thinking as I type.

Re: [Audyssey] Lone wolf problelms with jaws

2008-11-25 Thread Don Voyles
Hi Charles!

Yes, I do have newer versions of jaws that I have not put on my windows
98.1 version. I will probably try that now that I can get on the internet
with that machine. I use to use jaws 4.5 with lone wolf on my windows 98
version 2 and it worked jusst fine. I will try that when I put a higher
jaws version on there and license it on the internet. Probably tomorrow.

Thanks!

Re: [Audyssey] Lone wolf problelms with jaws

2008-11-25 Thread Willem
I think I had the very same problem. I think your problem probably is that
you don't have a soundcard with multichannel capability or there is a
problem with it. That is, jaws and another program can't play sounds
together through the soundcard.

Windows 98 is getting a little old. You should probably consider upgrading
windows, your soundcard or both. Maybe even a new computer?

[Audyssey] I'm now on All in play

2008-11-25 Thread dark
Hi.

Well, for whome it might concern, I'm trying allin play out, - partly for
interest, and partly to write reviews on audeasy.

Thus far I'm finding online texus holdem more fun than I expected.

i don't know about subscribing, - i actually wish I could subscribe to
fewer games for less cash (sinse the amagram game and possibly crazy eights
aren't half as much my thing),or just buy the games outright like Rail racer.

But anyhow, I'm on all in play and probably will be for the next 15 days. My
knick is Dark phantom (for some reason it wouldn't accept either dark, or any
varient of dark empathy), so f anyone fancies facing me across the poker table,
 I'm ready!

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
