this one i accessible only bekause it's old. but some of you may have
difficulties running the game on vista. i'm using xp and it works

hey everyone.
i'm glad you're interested in trying the games. to increase the
performance of the games (note: you will have to do it everytime you
start the games, but that's really easy and fast)
run the game that you'd like to play.
onse it starts (it will be slow, your screen reader will take some time
to read things)
press ctrl+alt+del (taskmanager should come up)
i don't know how it works in vista, i never used it, i'm only with xp,
if you're using xp, go into the second tab, called processes i believe,
and in the list of processes running it will have one called ntvdm.exe
(to reach it, press n). press the applications key, arrow down to define
priority), press enter on it, and select bellow normal. it will ask
for confirmation, confirm and it will run in normal speed, noting slow.
i hope that it works for you.

Hi Mathias,
First, thanks very much, I heard of WLS, but could never find it. My 
question is, I know you said these games run in DOS, but do you know if I 
can play them properly with JAWS? Do you have a DOS screen reader or a 
computer with DOS, or how do you play them? I will test myself, but I have 
many projects to finish and I'm not going to start in case I can't stop!

hello ari.
you definitely don't need a dos computer to play the games. on my
previous email sent to the list i explain how to run the game perfect in
the windows xp. just rut jaws to pc and it can read the menus perfectly
to play.
and if you don't wana make a tournament, or long matchs, you can just

well,yeah unfortunatel you won't fint a windows based in this style,
this one i accessible only bekause it's old. but some of you may have

[Audyssey] fluffy in the sarah game

HI all
This is just my personal experience.
Just in case what I am going to say, might give something away, here you go.

I have noticed that the sound that plays when sarah gets bitten by fluffy is
exactly the same sound as when a troll hits sarah with his club. So this is
in contrast with the harry potter books.
THE first  hp book clearly states that snape's leg was bitten by fluffy.
Fluffy didn't  attack snape with a club at all, else book1 would have stated
it.
I know it can be an almost impossible task to find a good biting sound
effect, but why not take that
Boom
Sound away and replace it  just  by sarah screaming and fluffy growling?
That wil give the player enough of an idea  that sarah is bitten.
But as the game currently is, it sounds as if fluffy is hitting sarah with a
club and nowhere in the hp books do you find that fluffy attacks with a
club.
Well, fluffy is only  described in book1.

I went to

and I clicked on contact us.
And I  put my e-mail address there.
And I wrote that I am unable to post to the GMA list, whether I reply to a
post or whether I use the address

When I hit the send button   on the GMA website, I got a webpage telling
me:cannot find server.
So I doubt that david will get my message.
I am starting to burn out all my hair with an asbestic heater out of sheer
frustration.

Thought I'd update this thread just in case there was anyone else on
list curious to find a resolution.

I eventually got a reply back from David at GMA.  Apparently joystick
support is on the list of things to do, but no date has been set to
start work on it.

From my breif investigation of the joytokey utility just now though,
it pretty much looks like we'd be able to set this up ourselves, all
be it with an extra layer added between GTC and your actual
controller, but if it works I won't be the one to knock it.

Let the tinkering begin...

I do have a fluffy biting you sound but it is mixed in with the club thump 
sound.
I thought the thump would be the sound Sarah would make punching Fluffy as 
he is biting her.

I have removed the thump.
I probably should now add a sound of Sarah's hand being bitten off and her 
screaming.

And the sound of her blood spraying the room.

[Audyssey] the bloody baron in the sarah game

Hi all
I've been thihnking of a neat idea for the sarah game.
Since the harry potter books have stated more than once that the bloody
baron is the only one that can control peeves, I have thought of the
following idea:
Sarah should have 3 opportunities to call the bloody  baron in extreme
cases.
This should be done through the mirror dobby gave her.
In other words, when sarah highlights  the mirror from her inventory, she
should have 2 persons to call: dobby and the bloody barron. If she calls
dobby, the normal thing should happen.
Dobby must give her a hint.
And on the sixth floor dobby must give sarah either socks or butter beer if
she calls him through the mirror.
Secondly, if sarah selects bloody baron from her mirror and hit enter, the
bloody baron should aparate from where it is, either from the  astronomy
tower or slytheren common room.
He then should aparate from his  current location and control  peeves for
some time.
He should do one of 2 things with peeves.
Either  grab peeves and aparate with him to one of the bloody baro'ns  hang
out places.
Or he should control peeves in some way, maybe holding him stil  in his grip
for a while.
The harry potter books did not precisely described how the bloody barron
controls peeves.
But I SUSPECT HE GETS PEEVES IN HIS GRIP AND EITHER HOLD HIM stil  FOR A
WHILE AND LET  GO OF  him or take peeves with him to where he hangs out.
But sarah should only get 3 opportunities  during the entire game to get the
bloody baron to control peeves.
An  example of an extreme case would be if sarah is reading books in the
library and peeves often  pests her.
After the bloody barron controlled peeves, he should immediately aparate
from where he came.
The bloody baron should only take a bit of sarah's  energy  away
if  she touches the bloody barron when she visits the slytheren common room
or astronomy tower.
Or another extreme case where the bloody baron's help may be needed is: if
sarah has used all her stunning  an  patronous spells. Lets say sarah only
has aparate spells left.
Lets say the player is in the headmaster's office and is about to pick up
dumbledor's wand.
Suddenly the player hears peeves.
Some people, if they apparate, find it  difficult to get to dumbledor's
office again, as the broom  cupboard is  situated in the entrance hall of
the headmaster's office.
So lets say that this new feature is implemented: instead of aparating and
having to find your way again into dumbledor's office you call the bloody
barron through your mirror and he then controls peeves for a while so that
you can find dumbledor's wand.
 In other words, sarah should only use these 3  opportunities in extreme
cases
If the player calls the bloody barron when peeves is not around, the game
should simply not respond.

[Audyssey] the sixth floor in the sarah game

Hi all
Hopefully phil will fix the following bug  in his update:
I have mentioned this privately to phil
But I do not expect him to respond quickly, as I realize phil is a busy man.
Anyway, I have noticed that when sarah calls dobby through her mirror while
on the sixth floor, dobby only gives the usual random  hints. No butter beer
or socks.
I have tried calling dobby many times when wandering through the sixth
floor, but each time I get only  the usual random hints.

[Audyssey] access to more than one joystick with joytokey

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a joytokey config for GMA Tank Commander here.
Up down left and right directions automatically get mapped to my
primary stick on this controller, which is fine and dandy.  But, from
then onward in joytokey there doesn't seem to be any other reference
to the d-pad or a second stick, just button 1 through to 32.  I know
which buttons are which on the controller, that's fine, but is there a
way anybody knows of to bind functions to the d-pad or secondary stick
on controllers that have them?  Hitting directions on the d-pad
doesn't seem to register as an actual button press so far as I can
tell.

I'm aiming to get the d-pad mimicking the up down left right
functionality, purely because it seems more efficient to use in menus,
and to get the targetting range bound to the right joystick if
possible.

If you're a more seasoned user of this cool little program, I'd really
appreciate any tips.

hi scott, this problem also happened with me wen trying to set some
buttons in my rock band guitar to work, even though i tried to press
certain buttons, it didn't worked.
maybe there are some more options in the program that need to be
configured in order for it to work, but i don't know. i'll search about
that, since i'm also interested.

[Audyssey] vipmud scrip problm

hi all, hope somebody can help me here. trying to get a script going in 
vipmud so i can see when a battle is over with sapi. this is the command i 
have put in

#Trigger {is DEAD} {#say {battle over} voiceonly}
any ideas as why it does nothing at all? it isn't causing an error, but 
there is no responce to the trigger text passing over the screen.

Salutations, Dallas.

While I don't use the mud client in question, I believe VIP Mud operates on 
the same trigger matching method as does ZMUD. In which case, you will want 
to write your pattern as {* is DEAD}, where the asterisk represents a 
wildcard.

[Audyssey] what happend to light tec interactive?

Hi all. I just whent to light tec interactive and the sight is there but it has 
not been updated for a long time the last update was in 2007 did they go out of 
bizzness? and also what is going to happen to light baddles? is that now 
abandened? since the trayler is on the sight but I have not herd anything from 
them for a wile. many thanks. from Mich.

Who knows anymore? As for Light Battles, it's entirely possible that project 
was abandoned due to the very real possibility of a copyright lawsuit if the 
project went forward. As has been pointed out numorous times on this list, 
even releasing a Star Wars or Star Trek game as freeware is no guarantee 
that Lucas Arts won't take action against you.

[Audyssey] new cars for topspeed!

Hey all!

I have made a few new cars for topspeed. I have a random car, which got 
it's name because I don't know what it is, 2 ford rangers, a yamaha 
road star, which is my dad's actual bike, and a 1988 olds. Plus a 
revised, faster version of my old merk, and a 1989 carra van. If you 
want any of these cars, email me or add me to your contacts with the 
info listed below. If you have any new cars which you have made or 
gotten, let me know!

I did indeed click on the mailing list link.
It says that in order to join the maling list, I must click on contact
us.
And  if I click on contact us, the only thing I get is an edit  box for
my subject line, one for my e-mail address and one for my  message and a
send button.
Nothing else.

[Audyssey] a very frustrating bug in the sarah game

HI all
I have mentioned this several times privatley to phil, but I understand
fully if he does not respondaat this time as he is very busy.
I just wanted to know if  anybody experience the same bug.
This didn't happen on the easy difficulty.
If memory serves, the bug started occuring on the first or second floor
of hogwarts. Each and every contact with a ghost and the program
restarts.
let me explain this very clearly.
When you, the player, awoke lets say 8:00 in the morning, lets say on a
saturday,  and you had your first cup of coffee and you decided to
start the day with some hogwarts adventure. You switch on your pc, and
then on the desktop, you either hit a hot key to launch the sarah game
if you have created one  or you click on the desktop icon or the icon in
your programs menu, whichever way .
Then once you launched sarah, you hear chimes, it will play until you
hit enter. Then the pcs logo plays, like the manual says you can
interrupt any logo with control.
So its first the pcs logo, then the draconis logo and then the sarah
theme song.and  Then you are in the main menu.
Now, when I get touched by any ghost, the same thing happens that
happens if you launch sarah.
I hear chimes, it plays until I hit enter, then it plays the pcs logo,
the draconis logo and the sarah  theme song, and I'm placed in the main
menu.
This is so frustrating, but I'm not cross with phil as I realize phil is
working his fingers blunt to develop sarah.
But for me,  the player, this bug frustrates the living wax out of me.
Even if I touch a ghost while  in patronous mode, the program restarts.
the only difference is, while the launching chimes plays, I still hear
the patronous music.
if I press enter and the pcs logo  plays,the patronus music stops.
It even happens some time that when I stun a ghost, the program also
restarts. It does not happen that often, but  what happens mostly is
that any contact with a ghost, and the program restarts whether in
patronous mode or not.
The program also restarts if sarah hits the baselisk with the griffindor
sword, and of course this was all mentioned to phil privatley.
also, while sarah is in the lake, if she get attacked by mur people, the
program also restarts.
the level where this bug is really making me mad is in the head master's
office, because peeves attacks sarah more often here than in any other
level. so I get touched by peeves very often and so the program
restarts the whole time and when I load my saved position in the
headmaster's office, no matter where in the headmaster's office I was
when saving, if I load my saved game, sarah goes up the automatic
staircase.
so I have to wait a while each time for sarah to  go up the stair case
and then shortly thereafter, peeves attacks sarah again and the program
restarts  again.thus an entire hour went by,   where the program
restarts each time peeves touches sarah.
lastly , the program restarts when sarah is touched by a bludger.
on the easy difficulty, this did not happen.
the program behaved normally on the easy difficulty
where the bludger would hit sarah if it gets in contact with her and
take some energy away.
but now on the standard difficulty, when a bludger touches sarah, the
program restarts.
I desperatley hope this can be fixed in the coming update.
I will uninstall the game and then instal it again and install the
latest patch and see  if that helps.

Well seeing as you seem to be the only, or at least one of only a very few, 
players to experience this, it's most likely not a bug in the game but a 
problem on your end, which unfortunately for you could mean any number of 
things that aren't exactly easy to nail down.
