Re: [Audyssey] Smugglers 5 Beta released

2012-10-07 Thread shaun everiss

Well I have sighted friends on both sides.
the first one is a hard core gamer and is on my radio programs.
He uses steam loads and for the most part likes it except it does
crash on ocation.
Another I have lothes it because of its requiring to continously
update a game before it can even start sometimes.

Yes tom steam is good for what it is.
The show I co host on is totally based in steam and if you have the
type of payed premium account the broadcaster on the show has, then
you sertainly can do loads of things.
You can get random betas, free weekends just like phone calling and
free games discounts, the works.

So yeah it makes sence.
On the other hand steam is just a protocal.
I am not sure if valve would allow us to make our own client.
After all we won't be using the graphic side of it.

Ahem...I wouldn't say mailing lists area blind thing because a lot
of people use them blind and sighted alike. There has been a trend
towards forums, blogs, and things like that of late, but if you look
around there are lists for just about everything under the sun. I
myself am on a number of technical related lists that have nothing to
do with the blind where sighted people hang out. Most of them are
unaware I'm a blind person as I choose not to advertise my disability
there. Point being, mailing lists are not just a blind thing as you
claim.

Perhaps but would a class action lawsuit be worth the price of taking

Personally I don't see us, the blind community, getting much out of a
lawsuit because even if Valve made Steam 100% accessible there may
only be a few developers like Neils on there developing games that are
reasonably accessible. It might be cheaper and more practical for us
in the long run to simply send feedback to the developer's support
e-mail address rather than on a digital content system like Steam.

Hi Darren,

Agreed. I think it should be possible,in theory at least, for someone
to create a client for Steam that is accessible. People do that sort
of thing all the time for non-Windows platforms to access MSN, AIM,
Twitter, Facebook, etc. It is merely figuring out how Steam works and
then building a client that works the same but is designed for a blind
user. Valve wouldn't have to be a part of the development if someone
were to start up an open source project to clone Steam for the blind.

As for lawsuits I generally discourage them as well. Some people are
all too willing these days to go to court over everything and
anything, and often times there are alternatives the person doing the
suing hasn't considered.

Cheers!

Thanks, it seems to be an issue with the sound pack.
When I log in using quick connect I don't have the problem, but I don't

I guess I'll have to play that way, to bad, I really like the sounds.
I had the same problem on my old XP machine.
I'm using windows 7 64 bit.

Re: [Audyssey] dimensions game

2012-10-07 Thread Clement Chou
I actually have all three on my ipod. but Dark knight rises and Inception
are kinda confusing... I'm having a hard time with dark knight and toggling
between autopilot and manual. Trying to put it on autopilot yet nothing's
changing despite me doing stuff.
To the others. Dimensions is a game on the ios system as Dan's already said,
and it's free... you can grab it off itunes, as well as the other two. The
other two apps aren't so much games as just soundscape modifiers. Toss on
headphones and load up dark knight rises, for instance, and hit the start
button. If you sit there and do nothing, it'll play still and slow music
that's rather intense, along with taking your mic's captured audio and
playing aroundwith it to make it sound like a dark and gritty gothom city.
But if you go for a walk or a run, the music is supposed to change to a more
fast-paced action theme, if the app is on autopilot. I haven't figured out
how to control that yet, but it's very interesting to fiddle with. Inception
is virutaly the same thing, but with dreamworlds, so it takes the audio and
makes it all bizarre, as if you were in a dream... and changes, once again,
according to what you're doing. This could qualify as a game simply because
there are other dreamworlds to unlock as you go through it. But it's a great
new level of entertainment for us blind people.
And Scott... you may be missing the point. lol. I think the game is more
about simply the experience. collecting artifacts and fighting off enemies
and whatnot is just a secondary... the game is more about having headphones
on as you go about your daily life and seeing what weird things can come up.
lol

Personally I don't see us, the blind community, getting much out of a
