You could, possibly, use my mapData game engine to just render/generate

The backend lets you generate interactive fiction maps, that can then be

Re: [Audyssey] swamp idea for map 3

2012-01-25 Thread Kelvin Tan
wow great idea!!! so i will have to make sure i get lots of emmo and med
kits before venturing to this map then! but then maybe for this map, since
the area is smaller, so there will definitely be more chance of being
swarmed by zombies, maybe each zombie kill will get more exp or rep points
as reward since u are more likely to be killed in this map than in the other
2 existing maps. but of course being a smaller map, the amount of loots will
therefore be easier to pick up for sure! sounds really good! maybe this map
should be available for players lvl25 and above or something. looking
forward to such a map. it will be 1 that's full of action!

Subject: [Audyssey] swamp idea for map 3

Hi Jeremy,
My random thought for another map for swamp. The whole thing is an open
concept, no save zone, no buildings and no obstacles. Only a transport
station. the map size is just half or maybe even smaller the current map1,
about 200 by 200 or even shrink to 100 by 100. not too sure about that. The
number of zombies and loots spond remains the same as the existing map. So
is kind of like a survival mode where we have many concentrated at a small
area.
The way to enter that area is by some kind of transport or teleporter which
goes back and forth regularly between a certain spot in sz to map 3
transport station. And that teleporter only activates at an interval of not
less than one minute. To return to sz, we will have to wait at that
transport station for the teleporter. If we are lucky, it will arrive within
seconds. While waiting we still have to defend ourselves.

yes it makes some sense too johnny. maybe, only allow semi automatic guns

kind of too big to be lugged around anyway since they are big and therefore

Don't really care for the open design- cause then anyone with enough rep for
ammo and a vulcan or m60 can just go in any time and power level like mad
since if there's no buildings in the way, one can just hold down the trigger
and sweep left to right and back again and off tons of zombies that way.

I believe johnny is right. The potential abuse is far too great. It's the
same kind of reason why I'm reluctant to put a sniper spot in the church of map
1, which some people have been asking for. I have a sniper spot in map 2 but I
picked a location that doesn't have very many zombies within range, and also
arranged it so that zombies could fairly easily find the fire escape ladder to
get up there too.

[Audyssey] swamp idea-howlers

2012-01-25 Thread Johnny Tai
Since we're tossing out ideas, how about a kind of zombie that can call others
to its location when spotting a player? The idea came from a zombie radio drama
I been following, in there there's this type of zombie that can let out a
piercing cry that can be heard from miles away- summoning tons of zombies to
the spot to swarm.
My idea is this, when a howler spots a player, it will start to make short
grunts- clearing its throat sorta speak, and if the player doesn't kill it in a
few seconds, it will let out the cry that'd alert others to come to its current
location.
You can either shoot it dead before it lets the summoning call out, or run away
real fast before the hoard gets to you.
I think a type like that would add a new thrill to the game since now if
there's 4 zombies approaching, and one is a howler, you probably want to get
rid of it first- assuming you don't have some big guns ready and are willing to
face 50 zombies at once.

Putting this option on the safe zone menu sounds clunky and I really don't

hi, just wanting to find out for sure the process here. in the older
game, it seemed that you had to go to the safe zone, and hit escape
twice, once to take you to the menu, and again to return to the game to
 save it.
now i don't know if that is right, as its just what i was lead to
 believe at the time.
but, never the less, just trying to find out exactly how your char is
saved on the latest one. is it just when you walk in to safe zone its
saved? or is that hitting escape twice still the way to do it. perhaps
it should actually be a command on the save zone menu?

Re: [Audyssey] Babisoft games crashing Attention Dark

2012-01-25 Thread Keith S
Hi Dark. After the Gulch game crashed 2 times in a row in the gun fights, I
uninstalled the game and ran Ccleaner's registry cleaner. I corrected all
the errors that it found and then removed the gulch folder (which apparently
contained the patch fixes). I then restarted my computer and reinstalled
gulch. When I tried to patch the game, Win XP told me that there were
invalid parameters, and the game was not patched.

Not sure what I should do now. Chillingham still crashes, so I'm not sure
what else do do. I think i'm going to try installing the game on my wife's
desktop and seeing if the patch will affix to the game.

I'll let you know how it goes.

i found myself on some xp machines that if you don't have that patch in

Hi, I know that there has been a lot of talk regarding Babisoft's lack of
contact with purchasers of their games, but I have a question regarding
the actual play of the games, or rather, how they play on Win XP sp 3
machines.
Chillingham will suddenly quit on me, and Grizzly Gulch will lock up
and disappear from my Windows Task Manager, but when I restart my
system, it asks me if I want to end Girzzly Gulch. This has been
happening when I get into a gun fight in the bank, after I purchase a gun
at the goods sotre.

Also, I was able to play both games fine until today (i installed both
games 3 days ago).

Not quite sure what's going on with the games and the interaction on my
system.

 Hi.
For voice over work you can advertize the job on list etc. You can
then choose who you want to say the dialogue and they could record the
 dialogue.
Sound design is completely different from programming. You use a sound
editor to change the sounds the way you want. For raw sounds you can
either record them yourself or download sounds from the internet.

Everytime I've run the game on an xp machine, which I've now done about four

Also, Avg pc tuneup's registry fix has never had any trouble with it either.

Hi Dark. After the Gulch game crashed 2 times in a row in the gun fights,
I uninstalled the game and ran Ccleaner's registry cleaner. I corrected
all the errors that it found and then removed the gulch folder (which
apparently contained the patch fixes). I then restarted my computer and
reinstalled gulch. When I tried to patch the game, Win XP told me that
there were invalid parameters, and the game was not patched.

Not sure what I should do now. Chillingham still crashes, so I'm not sure
what else do do. I think i'm going to try installing the game on my
wife's desktop and seeing if the patch will affix to the game.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi, I know that there has been a lot of talk regarding Babisoft's lack
of contact with purchasers of their games, but I have a question
regarding the actual play of the games, or rather, how they play on Win
XP sp 3 machines.
Chillingham will suddenly quit on me, and Grizzly Gulch will lock up
and disappear from my Windows Task Manager, but when I restart my
system, it asks me if I want to end Girzzly Gulch. This has been
happening when I get into a gun fight in the bank, after I purchase a
gun at the goods sotre.

Also, I was able to play both games fine until today (i installed both
games 3 days ago).

Not quite sure what's going on with the games and the interaction on my
system.

Re: [Audyssey] Game Design

2012-01-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicole,

Well, there are a couple of ways to get human actors for your games.
You can either ask people on list to volunteer to do the work for you,
or you can hire professional voice actors from a place like
http://www.voices.com.

As far as sound effects goes there are a number of websites that sell
sound effects for games, radio productions, and things like that.
There is shockwave-sound.com, sounddogs.com, audiosparks.com, to name
a few.

However, you will still need a good sound editor like Goldwave or
Soundforge to edit and modify the sounds as needed. A lot of times you
can't just take the sound you buy as is and throw it in a game. You
might need to modify it and tailor it to your needs.

As far as compilers and other development tools goes that all depends
on the programming language in question. There are several different
programming languages that have been developed over the years and
where you go to get the tools depends largely on who created the
language. For example, Microsoft created C# .NET and Visual Basic .NET
so obviously the tools for those languages can be found on Microsoft's
website. Sun created a language called Java and a lot of Java related
tools and things can be found on java.sun.com. Python is an open
source language and documentation, tools, and things like that can
usually be found on python.org. So there currently isn't any single
place to go to get programming related stuff. Although, that's
changing as I'm building such a website right now in my spare time.

As far as time goes that depends on your personal schedule and how
much free time you do and don't have to put towards programming. Its
possible to do both, but I will say that programming does take up a
lot of time. Especially, when you are first starting out and learning
the ropes so to speak. If you primarily want to spend your time
writing then you might want to outsource the programming to an audio
game developer who already has the programming skills you need.

that said, there are different degrees of complexity involved in
programming. A tool like Philip's BGT toolkit already has all the
complex programming done for you such as input support, audio support,
speech support, etc which means you can get down to the business of
creating your game right away. If you started out in an all purpose
programming language you could spend quite some time getting all the
basic code for input, audio, and speech working without even having
started on the game itself. So that's something to think about as
well.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] Game Design

2012-01-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Nicole,

Yes, generally speaking interactive fiction is text based, but not
always so. A person could write a game in a programming language and
add sounds, music, and output the text to Microsoft SAPI rather than
directly to the console as text based games usually do. It would still
be interactive fiction, but be designed with audio in mind rather than
straight text. Come to think of it there is nothing preventing a
developer from having a text based game with audio either.

Cheers!

Since we're tossing out ideas, how about a kind of zombie that can call
others to its location when spotting a player? The idea came from a zombie
radio drama I been following, in there there's this type of zombie that can
let out a piercing cry that can be heard from miles away- summoning tons of
zombies to the spot to swarm.
My idea is this, when a howler spots a player, it will start to make short
grunts- clearing its throat sorta speak, and if the player doesn't kill it
in a few seconds, it will let out the cry that'd alert others to come to its
 current location.
You can either shoot it dead before it lets the summoning call out, or run
away real fast before the hoard gets to you.
I think a type like that would add a new thrill to the game since now if
there's 4 zombies approaching, and one is a howler, you probably want to get
rid of it first- assuming you don't have some big guns ready and are willing
to face 50 zombies at once.

I believe johnny is right. The potential abuse is far too great.
It's the same kind of reason why I'm reluctant to put a sniper
spot in the church of map 1, which some people have been asking
for. I have a sniper spot in map 2 but I picked a location that
doesn't have very many zombies within range, and also arranged it
so that zombies could fairly easily find the fire escape ladder
to get up there too.

Don't really care for the open
design- cause then anyone with enough rep for ammo and a
vulcan or m60 can just go in any time and power level like
mad since if there's no buildings in the way, one can just
hold down the trigger and sweep left to right and back again
and off tons of zombies that way.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp idea-howlers

2012-01-25 Thread Ryan Strunk
I like this idea a lot. Especially with how people seem to be abusing
the stealth skill to solo big missions. I even saw people standing
next to someone they wanted to kill, firing their guns, and running
away in order to bury him in a tide of zombies. The type of zombies
you propose would cut down on this behavior, and it would encourage
people to actually shoot things.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp idea-howlers

2012-01-25 Thread Dallas O'Brien

yeah, a crossbow or compound shortbow would be cool.
actually, i have always thought it would be kinda cool, to have a
version of swam, where you have several mele weapons, and only a few
ranged weapons. so it would pritty much makes those ranged weapons a
sniping weapon. but, as they are slow to reload, you would have to take
very careful aim, and it would be werth a lot of exp / rep to make the
kill with such weapons.

Since we're tossing out ideas, how about a kind of zombie that can call

Re: [Audyssey] swamp idea-howlers

2012-01-25 Thread Johnny Tai
Well, it'd be alot more work for Jeremy, but I can easily see a second
map/world for swamp where it's taking place in medieval setting. So for
range you'd get crossbows, longbows, shortbows, maybe even throwing spears
and daggers, and for melee, you'd still get the axe, and maybe the swords I
hear so many asking for. Then it's a simple matter to change the armor types
to leather armors, wooden armors, and metal plates/chains.
And maybe instead of gas station, it'd be a large destroyed farm, and can
throw in a few abandoned castles/keeps to replace the modern buildings.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp idea-howlers

2012-01-25 Thread Dallas O'Brien
yes, and whats more, is such castles and keeps and the like, would be
good places to get up in to for shooting from, while your friends are
down on the ground in the battle. so you could for example put a guy up
in a castle, and have him watch you while your going in to a croud, and
take out anything that gets to close to you.
could be kinda interesting, either way. i always love having different
ways of doing things.

now why would you think I'm so egotistical to want that title, --- besides

On the other hand Dark God, Dark king or dark emperor are all quite

[Audyssey] swamp mission and character upgrade

2012-01-25 Thread Steady Goh
Hi Jeremy, the mission that lvl 15 can lead and the 1 above lvl 20 both require
the players to load 12 items to the truck. What is the actual difference
between the two besides one require more rep to join and higher reward?

Comments on character upgrade.
I don't have enough points to try out but I guess we can't feel much difference
with the upgrade for heavy weapons like m60, sniper rifle and mini gun because
they are already very powerful without the upgrade and mostly take one or at
most 2 shots to kill a zombie. Maybe you can consider replacing the critical
strike and more damage power with less chance of being broken and faster
reload. I think it might be more helpful. Same for the chainsaw. Since it
already has little chance of broken, how about longer range upgrade and higher
chance of blocking zombie hits? I did try using it after you did the
modification. It does help a bit but I still end up donating. It is very
expensive to use. I have to use up lots of fuel doing blank shots and med kits.
Although axe is less powerful and i use it without defencive mode, the pay off
for killing zombies is the same and doesn't need any ammo so is very much more
worth it.

Re: [Audyssey] swamp idea-howlers

2012-01-25 Thread Kai
I fail to see how a bow would have more oomph than a pistol. A bullet, I'd
imagine, would outdo an arrow any day. While I love the idea of crossbows
and such with exploding projectiles for killing zombies, I also don't think
that their ilk of weaponry properly fits the zombie genre of games.

Yep, this is a good idea, as well as a bow, a silent weapon with a bit
more

oomph than a pistol, better range, but slower reload time. Maybe a
crossbow.

I like it. Left 4 dead on the xbox360 and pc had things like that, and
each

zombie had some minor variations that affected them from a gameplay
standpoint. This would add a lot more depth to the game, as well as enemy
management.

Since we're tossing out ideas, how about a kind of zombie that can call
others to its location when spotting a player? The idea came from a
zombie
radio drama I been following, in there there's this type of zombie that
can
let out a piercing cry that can be heard from miles away- summoning tons
of
zombies to the spot to swarm.
My idea is this, when a howler spots a player, it will start to make
short
grunts- clearing its throat sorta speak, and if the player doesn't kill
it
in a few seconds, it will let out the cry that'd alert others to come to
its
current location.
You can either shoot it dead before it lets the summoning call out, or
run
away real fast before the hoard gets to you.
I think a type like that would add a new thrill to the game since now if
there's 4 zombies approaching, and one is a howler, you probably want to
get
rid of it first- assuming you don't have some big guns ready and are
willing
to face 50 zombies at once.
