I just hope the bionics system gets fixed, right now it's way too weird and buggy. There are implants that have requirements of other implants that use the same slots, like chassis and spine, ones that require implants that are supposed to be borg only but that you can still get without meeting the requirements, like neck assembly and cybernetic skull, you don't actually need the neck assembly to get the skull but it says it's a requirement. it's just messy. Really cool in concept and makes your character very powerful if you use them, but I hope it gets cleaned up. Yeah, this part is incredibly odd. If you turn VoiceOver off and just tap around, it eventually works. For some reason VoiceOver won't focus on any other button than the one the tutorial puts you on. This is the only time you ever have to do this though, after you get through the tutorial, all other buttons are accessible. If you need to, you can get someone sighted to hit the button for you. -- From: Ian McNamara ianmcnamar...@gmail.com Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2013 07:07 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Haypi Monster Hi where do I get the injustice game from? Re: [Audyssey] Haypi Monster
Haypi Kingdom sort of is, Dragon isn't at all. From what I understand, Dragon involves moving a dragon around a level, shooting bombs at enemy dragons. There's no way to tell where the enemy dragons are and just like in Haypi Monster, turns are limited to 15 seconds or so, and it seems some buttons don't interact with VoiceOver very well. Kingdom has a lot of unlabelled buttons and is hard to get used to, but I was able to do at least some of it. [Audyssey] Haypi Monster for iOS
So I recently posted about Monster Kingdom, and that game is still cool. But I just found another one that's even better. Haypi Monster is even more advanced than the pokemon games, and it's free for iOS, android and windows8 mobile phones. If any of you are familiar with the pokemon games, it's along the same lines. You battle monsters, and capture them in seal cards. You can evolve, breed, and even synthesize monsters, which is basically fusing two monsters together to make a new one using a synthesis scroll. Monsters can be equipped with items, and unlike the pokemon games, many of the items give permanent bonuses instead of just being one-time-use automatic healing items or boosters. Monsters level up and earn new abilities, and there's also skill books you can use to teach them other techniques, like the TM's in pokemon. Monsters can have mystery talents, which are passive bonuses that do various things to help you in battle, like healing your monster under certain weather conditions, or boosting their skill effectiveness if the enemy has an elemental advantage. Like in Pokemon, elements can be strong against others, for example, water does severe damage to fire types. There are also status effects and boosting skills that make battling even more strategic. There's a lot to do in terms of activities. The main storyline involves you advancing through different scenes, each with a certain amount of levels. You advance through each level to save the scene, and eventually the world, from evil monsters. There are different modes, like normal mode, team mode, which lets you co-op scenes with other players to fight powerful boss monsters for prizes, and veteran mode, which I'm not sure about. Levels consist of a board-game like interface, where you roll a 6-sided die and advance a number of spaces. You can get treasure, fight battles and other things. You finish the level when you beat the boss monster at the end. You can train your monster in training nests, which give them a substancial experience boost at the cost of money or coins, the game's donation currency, but then require a cooldown before they can be used again. You can compete in tournaments or regular PVP to test your skills against other players at no penalty for losing, in fact I think you even get XP if you lose. There are tons of tasks to do, which are like achievements or trophies with good in-game rewards. There are trainer levels you can earn, which unlock new features of the game. And that's just some of what you can do. I recommend checking out my entry o AppleVis for some accessibility comments, the game is a little tricky to use, but unlike Monster Kingdom there isn't really anywhere that needs VoiceOver turned off. One part of the tutorial and the battle system in particular are somewhat difficult, but I describe how to manage them on AppleVis. If you decide to play, you can add Talerous as a friend if you want, it's beneficial to both players. I hope you all enjoy, I'm having a lot of fun with the game so far. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] looking for a mud client
I'm not really sure what the problem is here. As long as you have the output window plugin added to the mud you're trying to play, Control Alt O should indeed work. It sounds like your version of MushZ got corrupted somehow. Just so you're aware. MushZ is not actually a client in it's own right. The Sound pack used for Alter Aeon is called MushZ, but the client itself is actually called MushClient and was not built spacifically for alter, isn't even by the same developer. I think the developer of the MushZ pack has done some slight modification to the Mush Client, some of them very unfortunate like disabling the ability to preload worlds from files when creating new muds, but yeah, the actual client itself was not made just for alter. You could try getting the original MushClient installer, installing it elsewhere so as not to mess with any of your alter stuff, and then adding the plugins like output window and MushReader, they will all still work. MushClient is very easy to find just by googling. -- From: Keith ks.steinbac...@gmail.com Sent: Thursday, April 04, 2013 01:57 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] looking for a mud client Hi, have been playing AlterAeon for a while, want to try my hand at some of the other genres out there. Mush z was apparrently made for use with alteraeon, and to that extend, it kicks butt. But, when I try to get the outpout window to open in a way to allow me to cut and past info from it, or to save it altogether, it throws an error message saying something like missing shortcut or something like that. I'm talking about the control tab combo on this one. In the alteraeon game, on the Mush z channel, I was told that toggling the outpout command (control alt O) would allow this to occur, but the error persists. So, I'm in the market for another mud client that will allow me to do this, along with simple in game things like mush z allows, like repeating a command with a simple push of the enter key. Apparrently, VIP mud does not allow you to do this. I'm probably wrong, but I hav'nt found a way of doing this as of now. [Audyssey] Castaway
Along this same line, there's a game I've been looking for called Castaway. It was an old text adventure for dos, and I don't think it's been ported to any other systems. From what I remember of it, you wash up on an island after your ship crashes, being the only survivor, and you have to find your way off the island. It had different races you could pick, some strategy in the beginning of the game as you had to buy a few items for initial survival based on the meager supply of gold you washed up with, and RPG-like mechanics, it was quite similar to The Orb of Zott but a little more advanced. If anyone knows where I can find it, I'd appreciate the information. -- From: dark d...@xgam.org Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 04:18 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] The orb of zot Hi lisa. Hmm, sadly that doesn't seem to be it. And also, I've done enough googling trying to find this game that I got discouraged. I played it once at a summer camp and have been looking for it ever since. Haven't actually tried to find it in a while, but the mension of Wizard's Castle made me think of it so figured I'd ask on here. I'm starting to wonder if the game wasn't actually called something different, I was pretty sure the lady that showed me it at camp said it was Castaway, but looking at the solution for this game it seems to have no RPG mechanics and to be very simple, so I don't think it's what I'm looking for. Thanks for the Baf's reminder though, maybe I'll look through their Dos section and see if I can find it. -- From: dark d...@xgam.org Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2013 06:22 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Castaway Baf's lists an old dos text game called castaway, see http://www.wurb.com/if/game/39 but though it has the plot you mention regarding being washed up on a tropical island, there's nothing about rpg mechanics or choosing races, it just seems to be an early if style game. [Audyssey] Awesome Game Found for the iPhone
So I've been on somewhat of an iOS game spree lately, and I just happened to stumble across a completely awesome one totally by accident. But first, a slightly less awesome game. I found Pocket Summoner Episode 1: Dragon Master on AppleVis. You collect spirits called guards to battle other spirits and players, and complete quests. Unlike the typical Kingdoms styles games, this one actually has some dialogue. The missions themselves don't have descriptions, but ocasionally there's some dialogue that at least fills in gaps and gives some background. There are tons of guardians to collect, transform and gain abilities with. I think the game is second language hence the oddness in dialogue in some places, but it's still pretty cool. Battle is sadly automatic so the game still has a pretty casual feel, but it's still worth a play. Be warned that there are some unlabelled buttons, but they're pretty easy to figure out. For example, on the guards screen, the first button after a guard's name changes that guard to your active guard for questing, and the second brings up the guard's info and training screen. If anyone signs up, I'd appreciate it if you used my friend code. It gives us both 5 gold coins, which you can cash in for various rewards and recharges. My code is: 7506723699 And now, for the truly awesome find. This one's not on AppleVis, but when I was getting Pocket Summoner, I also discovered a game called Monster Kingdom. It's similar to Pocket Summoner in that you collect monsters and train them up, but it's not nearly as casual. For one, it has a complete, in-depth story with dialogue scattered all over the place. It's got a complete soundtrack, and sound effects for every ability and attack, pretty good ones at that. Battle is most definitely not automatic and the abilities do more than just damage, most of the ones I've seen have very useful effects, like damage over time, crippling your opponent or buffs that are incredibly useful, like Mana Shield, which lets your mana supply take some of the damage that would have normally gone to your HP. There are a lot of monsters to collect, evolutions, upgradable abilities, crafting, battling with other trainers and more. And the best part, it's about 90% accessible. There's only a couple parts I've had trouble with so far. Selecting your initial monster, and monsters in battle, is a bit tricky. You have to turn VoiceOver off and tap on the screen for both. In the first case, it brings up info about the monster you picked and I'm not sure if you can go back and pick another one, I picked the water turtle thing. In battle, the monsters seem to be lined up in the center of the screen from left to right, and when you tap on one, after a couple seconds you'll hear a chime signifying that your turn has started, so that's not too hard. Crafting is also a little tricky since most of the components aren't labelled and the screen is kind of awkward, but I think it can be done as long as you just keep trying after collecting some components. Everything else works with VoiceOver and for the most part, is clearly labelled. One thing I should explain is the battle system. As the tutorial says, touch an ability to see info on it, swipe up to cast it. What this translates into is, double tap an ability to bring up info, and to use it, you'll need to double tap and hold while on the abilities name till you hear the triple tone from VoiceOver, then swipe up and the ability will activate. Your abilities in battle are lined up along the extreme bottom edge of the screen. The life and mana of your current monster are on the top left corner of the screen, slightly away from the edge, and your opponents is on the right. The swap button is in the very top left corner, and the battle menu is in the top center. In the menu you can flee, or look in detail at your or your opponents monsters' stats. If you bring up the battle menu, you have to click the battle menu again to close it before you can continue with the battle. I hope this all makes sense. The only problem I have with the game is that it uses an energy system, so you can't play as much as you want. And you can't even raise the energy stat manually like in some games, instead you gain 5 extra energy whenever you complete a zone and unlock a new one. So it's a little limited for my liking, but still awesome. I plan to hunt down some contact info for the devs of this game and ask them if they could fix the issues that VoiceOver has, I'm pretty sure they'd be simple fixes, especially given how well the game already works with it. If anyone else decides to play, I'd appreciate help giving feedback, especially if you find any other problems I haven't encountered yet. The more, the marrier, as they say. I personally think this game has tons of potential and even though I'm already able to play and have advanced to the third zone, I'd love to have more fine control
Re: [Audyssey] translating japanese games [was]Re: Looking ForSomething New to Play
No, that's not what I think I can understand, that's what I understand. It's actually not as hard as you're making it out to be, and with InstantTranslate, there is no pasting anymore, it's just a matter of hitting one extra keystroke in between lines of dialogue, menu choices, etc. The stories make sense to me, and I can usually tell when a line of dialogue has gotten seriously messed up by the translator. I have used translation to beat Shadow Line, a game that many people, including you, had trouble with for supposed lack of direction. In truth, there's plenty of direction in that it tells you exactly where to go or has you follow straight paths, like getting to the first dungeon. I've also confirmed a lot of things with Yukio, for example, I just went through and translated the entirety of BK2 using instant translate, then asked Yukio about some of the storyline. Turns out I was able to make sense of about 80% of it and the only parts I missed were some of the goofy humor parts that seem to be common in the japanese audiogames. I also have a little trouble translating some scenes where the characters are just sitting around talking about things that aren't story related for some reason, but that's it. So please, don't tell me what I think I understand when A, I know how japanese grammar structure works so I know what to watch out for, and B, I can tell you what every game I've beaten was about, with confirmation from someone native to the language, and exactly how the game mechanics work. -- From: Clement Chou chou.clem...@gmail.com Sent: Friday, March 22, 2013 12:27 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] translating japanese games [was]Re: Looking ForSomething New to Play The difference is, a lot of people don't want to have to try so hard to understand 50% of a game's story. I'll be honest... I'm one of them. I want to be able to leap right into a game and not have to worry about setting up clipboard monitoring, translation software, etc etc. Yes, yu may understand 505 of the story... but that's how much you think you can understand. For all you know the words could be completely different, but because of different Kanji used it's hard to tell. To be frank... if I didn't have the knowledge of Japanese I do, I would probably be in the same boat as Tom and Dark on this matter. Heck I find it irritating to have to pause the game just to look up a couple words. I can't imagine stopping at every line of dialog to translate it and try and decode the mess that I usually get. At Dark... while Japanese itself isn't that hard to translate, that isn't the problem... the problem is the grammar and syntax difference. At its most basic form, the basic word order for Japanese is subject, object and verb whereas in English it's subject verb object. That can mess up translator sometimes, and also because words in Japanese have different meaning depending on the sentence and context. Toriaezu, for example can mean at first, right away and a couple of others. How do you translate that? A translator can't figure that out.. that's where you need someone with a working knowledge of the language to figure out what context that is. That's why the BK 2 translation project has been halted for so long.. because noone has time to pick through the translated sentences to pick out what little meaning can be found in them. I admire their patience in being able to handle that much pasting, but I couldn't do it. Sure I could slog through it... but then the game just straight becomes more about the action, not the story and action together, and especially in an rpg, that's important. At least, to me. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] acive muds you all play
No, you only need either the DNS info or the IP address. They both go in the same field and you don't use both at once, just one or the other. Usually the DNS, in this case, Moo.squidsoft.net, is sufficient, and the IP address is only there as a fallback if that doesn't work. Re: [Audyssey] Looking For Something New to Play
If I had to make an estimate, I'd say I understand at least 50% of the story. The story is definitely not utterly unreadable, not if you pay close attention and pick what you can out of the translated sentences. They are fairly jumbled, but most of the time I can figure out at least the jist of what was being said. It's especially easy now that there's the InstantTranslate Addon for NVDA. As for the games speaking Japanese, first of all, that sounded more like chinese, haha. And secondly, that only happens with the self-voicing games, which don't work with translators anyway. The only way the games that use clipboard output speak japanese is if you set them up with a clipboard monitor and a japanese Sapi voice. These games are very, extremely playable, the storyline can be read with some patience and careful listening, the game mechanics of every game I've played so far are easy to understand and I personally think anyone who doesn't at least give the games a try is missing out on some serious awesomeness since there is nothing even remotely equivalent in english, and won't be for a while if the games that are in development now are any indication. -- From: Clement Chou chou.clem...@gmail.com Sent: Thursday, March 21, 2013 05:08 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Looking For Something New to Play Hi Dark. Well, I think I've answered my own question on Storm8 ID's. It looks like if you set it up in one game, it automatically links your ID in all the other games, I found 2 others where I can access the settings tab with VoiceOver and they already showed my created ID, so I assume this applies to the games where you can't get into settings as well, like Racing or Pets. Anyway, for anyone who plays, if you'd like to add me, my ID is bladestorm360. Not sure how long I'll be interested in these games, but it'd definitely be nice to have a bigger army while it lasts. For anyone playing these, do you know how to access the settings in any game other than Kingdoms, if it's possible at all? I looked up how to set a storm8 ID and it says to click the tiny cog icon, but I don't see a link anywhere that takes me to a settings tab. There's one up near my character name on the homepage, but voiceover won't focus on it long enough for it to be clicked on. I got my ID set up in Kingdoms, if anyone wants to add me it's bladestorm360. Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information
That was actually pretty well written. Nice job. Personally I actually don't mind just the little bit of backstory the games give you in the tutorials, but I would definitely prefer the missions to have more text to them, and the story you just came up with would be much cooler. It would also be cool if the missions were completable in some way rather than repeatable, or at least some mixture of the two. Some of the missions don't make sense, like the quest in Kingdoms where you have to Save the Prince from the Goblins. And you can do that quest as many times as you want. That is one unfortunate prince, or your character is one terrible hero. haha. I don't mind stat heavy game sos much because I have a bit of an overactive imagination, so I can conceptualize a lot of things in terms of my characters, hence why I still play Dragon Tavern for it's unique classes. But they tend not to last for too long as in any game, I prefer an overarching storyline that can be completed and a game that has an ending, or multiple endings. -- From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2013 09:21 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information Hi Dark, That may be. However, like you I enjoy games with a good solid back story, is full of exploration, and am not so much a fan of stat heavy games. I think the Storm8 games lack the back story and exploration, and is geared more for people who like dealing with various stats and who like figuring out how to earn the most income while maintaining the best weapons etc. So they are appealing in principle, but fall short of what I would consider personally addictive. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information
The ones I played were fairly boring, they're all basically clones of each other with different missions based on the settings. You click the same button over and over to do a mission to build up experience, money and such, you buy items and units to unlock new missions, there's no text describing the mission or what you actually did, it just says your mission was successful, and there's a pretty large PVP element. I can't remember if there's penalties for being attacked but I do know it's a large part of the game. They also tend to be fairly donation heavy. Basically, think of it as Dragon Tavern without the unique classes and with a couple more options aside from exploring. -- From: dark d...@xgam.org Sent: Sunday, March 17, 2013 07:57 PM To: Gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] Storm8 games information hello. Re: [Audyssey] Mud Question
I think Federation II is what you want here. I could be wrong because I never played it much and it seemed to be a bit donation heavy, but I know that most of the game is based around trading, economy and some building. -- From: Darren Harris darren_g_har...@btinternet.com Sent: Thursday, March 14, 2013 10:03 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Mud Question would love to see a mud styled on elite that sort of thing. with trading factory building and economy related stuff. don't get me wrong i love star conquest but they've got the trading element of it far from right i think. for example, they expect you to find the trading centres all yourself. i don't actually agree with that, a trader should find the best routes yes but all the trading centres should be known or how can any given economy be expected to be maintained or even grow if the supply of goods is based on knowing where the trading centres are? to me that's somewhat silly. Re: [Audyssey] mud sound packs, how do I know?
It's fairly rare since sound packs have to be manually configured for each mud. Every mud will have it's own unique pieces of text and you'd have to set up triggers to play a sound for each one. Mush-Z is the only pack of it's kind that I know of, but there are some much less advanced and lower quality ones out there such as Materia Magica and 6 dragons. There are decent packs for Miriani out there, and possibly Star Conquest as well. That's all I can think of off the top of my head though. As far as I know there isn't a list of all muds with soundpacks, but as I said it's rare enough that there probably doesn't need to be. -- From: Keith ks.steinbac...@gmail.com Sent: Thursday, March 14, 2013 02:51 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] mud sound packs, how do I know? Re: [Audyssey] thoughts on posts to the list and to Audyssey magazine - Re: Important Notice For All List Members
I think both sides are at fault here. It would be nice if spelling and grammar were taking more under consideration, but I don't understand the complaints about messages being hard to read and understand. I have no problem at all understanding even the most horribly typed messages, I even use translation services to do some things that make some messages on here look like professional grade documents. It seems to me that if you can't understand something even if it's badly written, you have no right to complain because it isn't like it takes any extra skill or adjustment to figure things out. If anything I just find it arrogant. Not everything will ever be perfectly clear and easy to read, but complaining about not being able to understand it, in my opinion, makes people look just as bad. -- From: Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com Sent: Thursday, March 07, 2013 10:59 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] thoughts on posts to the list and to Audyssey magazine - Re: Important Notice For All List Members Hi Charles, I am in full agreement with you on this point. I understand in cases where English isn't a person's native language where they make grammatical and spelling errors in their posts. However, the irony is that I know of many people on this list and several other lists that are not native English speakers and there spelling and grammar are almost textbook perfect where native English speakers who should certainly know better have the most spelling and grammar errors of all. I don't know if it is the fault of the education system, weather or not the people in question don't care, or there is some type of mental disability involved but I can't help but notice the fact I often delete a lot of posts simply because little to know attempt was made at clarity. If some people have difficulty making there day to day posts clear it is doubtful they will be able to construct an article or review of a better quality unless they seriously proofread and spell check their work Its not like I expect the post to be textbook perfect, but I do expect a reasonable attempt at spelling and proper punctuation if nothing else.. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Muds that are blind friendly using MUSH Z?
Almost every mud I have played is blind friendly, even if you have to do a little work on the mud side of things to make it so. Some are more accessible than others, but pretty much any mud can be made very playable if you know the correct settings and toggles on the mud itself. One thing I always do is either disable my prompt, or change it to a greater than sign and put the greater than sign in the jaws dictionary manager with it's pronunciation set to a space, so it just shows up as a blank line at the bottom. I then find other ways to check my HP and other important stats. I've found that about 99% of the muds I've played are accessible. The other 1% either use ascii maps as their primary method of navigation, or there is no way to turn off the prompt. By the way, that marvel game you were looking at, just so you know, that won't be anything like playing alter. It's developed using the MUSH codebase, which means there are usually no hard-coded mechanics, everything your character does has to be roleplayed in text and there's usually no experience to earn, stats to raise, etc. If that's your thing, cool, but I just figured I'd let you know in case the description didn't make it very clear. Muds I have found that are mostly blind friendly and fun to play are Unofficial Squaresoft Mud, Eternal Fantasy, Storm Hunters, New Moon, Asylum, Godwars2, Hell Moo or any of it's varients, Tsunami, 3 kingdoms, Aardwolf, Blood Dusk, Cleft of Dimension, Conquest, Dark Wizardry, DustMare, Haelrahv, and Project Bob. Note that these games varry in newbie friendliness and difficulty, they're just some of my favorites and some of the most playable. -- From: Keith ks.steinbac...@gmail.com Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2013 12:32 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] Muds that are blind friendly using MUSH Z? Unless this game is mostly playable by the blind without sighted assistance, you'd probably have better luck finding a walkthrough on gamefaqs.com or a similar site. -- From: Hunter Jozwiak potbelliedj...@aol.com Sent: Monday, March 04, 2013 03:17 PM To: gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith Question Hi to you all. It has been a while, has it not? I have been playing a game with my little brother entitled Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, on the PlayStation. However, we are stuck on the mission where Obi-Wan Kenobi is going solo to take on Grevis. We keep getting hung up on the part where a turret must be destroyed, and we always die because we don't know how. Re: [Audyssey] MUD question
Why not just start new worlds in MushClient, which you already have if you use Mush-Z. Yeah, have definitely gotten these. I think that code needs to be more thoroughly tested before being released to the public, especially with glaringly obvious bugs like these slipping into updates. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia questions
According to Yukio, you want to change jobs at around level 45, he says lich is the only one that gets a skill at job level 50, the max job level. I think there may be some that gain skills after 45, like between 46 and 49 just given the skill progression with some of my jobs before level 45, the only one that actually gained a skill on level 45 was my fighter, but I decided to change jobs anyway and come back to them. Apparently when you gain a character level, you automatically gain a class level as well so you don't want to waste those since you can only go up to character level 100. So I'd wait quite a while before changing jobs. And I actually cheated to beat the castle dungeon, hahaha. I didn't even unlock it until pretty late in the game, and by that point I had items that just allowed me to float over the water so getting the chests was ridiculously easy. Honestly unless you've gotten other things though I don't see them as being useful, all I got was magic stones, which are just more powerful rocks it looks like. I haven't actually tried them out though so maybe they're better than they seem. Knowing my luck you'll get to the battle I'm on and completely destroy it, haha. Re: [Audyssey] Hatsuuri combat
This is MM's new one, yes? I found it sort of boring. The sounds are good, but since there's no clipboard output and the readme made it sound very simplistic, I'm already pretty much done with it, especially since unless you know japanese you have no idea what loot you're even collecting or what your stats look like so you're basically just running around punching enemies and dodging weird little obstacle things till you complete levels. But then again, Beat 'em Ups have never really been my thing anyway, no matter how simple or complex. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia questions
Did you end up using windows XP or 7? I forgot to clarify that these instructions work for 7 only, I barely remember how xp is set up at all, much less know how and where NVDA installs it's information. What you need to find is where NVDA installs your Add-ons and you should be able to find the file I told you about. This should be very easy if you install them manually, but if you just ran the Add-on package I have no idea where to tell you to look if you're using XP. As for the in app thing, that was actually meant to be part of the path, in AppData/roaming/NVDA etc, I just put a space in there by accident. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia skills questions
This is very dependant on the skill being used. You have to read the skill description carefully, it gives you the MP cost, a brief description of what the skill does, and if you have the most recent version, 0.38, there's a description of how the skill is targetted. For example, say you're casting fire with your witch character. It says 4 squares after the description, which means you can target an enemy 4 squares away. So what you need to do is find an enemy in relation to your character using browse mode, and then just target the skill at that enemy. Even though you won't hear the enemy beep sound, if you just remember where it is in relation to your character, the skill will hit. There are all different kinds of skills with different ranges from melee to 6 squares away, some that affect the surroundings all around you, some that affect characters adgacent to you, you just have to read carefully and figure out what it does. Usually it's not too hard even with translation oddness, but if you need any help figuring out a given skill feel free to ask. I'm extremely far in the game so I doubt you'll encounter much I haven't seen yet, and if you do I may be able to figure it out. -- From: Sarah Haake ti...@gmx.net Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2013 01:24 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia skills questions Hi, so, I got a good bit further today, only have one map left in the plains now. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia skills questions
They can be targetted, but they don't show up on the grid from what I've seen. The idea is just to target a tile within range of the skill and it will hit enemies either on that tile or surrounding tiles depending on the skill being used. Not only that but not all skills target enemies and not all of them can even be targetted, some of them just affect the character's surroundings or allies, etc. there are tons of different types and affects. -- From: ryan chou ryan.chou1...@gmail.com Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2013 01:47 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia skills questions each skill has its range, so that's probably why you're seeing an empty grid if there are enemies they'll show up on that grid hth On 1/27/13, Sarah Haake ti...@gmx.net wrote: Hi, so, I got a good bit further today, only have one map left in the plains now. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia skills questions
Just keep one thing in mind here man, a lot of people that end up playing these games don't actually know any japanese. Even having played the game, I only know of one skill you mensioned below, and that's just from reference. But on the other hand you may not translate the skill names for all I know, so I guess it works both ways. Anyway yeah, shot hits all enemies around you, there aren't too many skills in the game like that. Most are either spacifically targetted or if they affect tiles around you, it's your allies. But you can generally assume that if you can't move the target for a skill, it only affects a range around the character and doesn't need to be targetted. Exaction is a support spell that increases hit rate of characters within 4 tiles of where you target the spell. I would definitely recommend updating to 0.38 when you have the time, he's added descriptions of the skills' affects in terms of targetting and what they affect. -- From: ryan chou ryan.chou1...@gmail.com Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2013 06:36 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia skills questions the shot skill you're talking about, is it midareuchi? if yes then think of your generic attack everything in range at once skill that you have in some of these types of games eguzakushon increases hitting accuracy of all characters within one tile of where you target not counting diagonals, so you can actually use this for groups of up to 5 people if you target the right place most skills you'll get later for jeido are used the same way if you need anymore info just ask, if I don't know then I'm sure shadow does, lol I'm only on the 4th stage myself, after the megabirds ahem sorry, bokurano daibouken 2 reference! haha anyways hth XD --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Oh right, I totally forgot about this. Good call. You may need to enable hidden files and folders in order to see App Data. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia questions
That's good that you don't find the game too difficult. It's a lot easier with the translation addon, it makes things like equipment management much less overwhelming. As for navigation, basically you can jump over anything as long as you have two steps left and there's space to land on the other side. You can jump over other characters if they're in the way or you want someone else in front of them, and you can use the browse mode to see if what you're trying to jump over is actually a path, if you hear the click sound like your character has hit an obstacle in the browse mode, it means you generally can't move in that direction. As of right now I can't find a way to tell what terrain type you're on or what a given tile will do, for example, end the map. I stumbled across a bonus cave in one of the maps completely by accident a couple days ago and would really like to be able to tell what tile it was on so I can try it again. I'm going to talk to someone who knows the developer and find out if either I'm missing something, or if a feature can be added that tells you what type of tile you're on, but as of right now it's pretty much guess work. Tiles that end the map are usually on one side or the other, and the victory conditions do generally give you a hint as to wear to look, for example, if the map says aim to the east and all of your characters start on the left, you can assume that the exit will be somewhere on the far right, I usually just line my characters up on that side of the map and move them in a straight line till one of them finds the exit, or I just defeat all the enemies and that ends the map as well. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia questions
Strange. When I use browse mode and go over all the different tiles, all I get are coordinates on the map. I wonder if I messed with a setting somewhere that stopped that from working? I'll have to see what I can figure out. I have seen the option you were talking about where the game plays sounds to show you the different terrain parts on the map, but I haven't found it all that useful. And I'm still wondering if there's some method to find out if the tile you're on has a spacific purpose, like escaping or ending the map or activating a bonus map, I'll have to experiment with the options in the game and see what's there. As for skills, you should start getting them very soon. You gain skills both at character and job levels, and they're very much class spacific. You'll definitely have at least one skill on each character before you clear the first area. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia questions
It turns out you can get the terrain to display in browse mode. There's a setting in the options menu where you can turn off the coordinate display. Then as you arrow over tiles, it either displays nothing, or a terrain type. It even tells you about event tiles like entrances and exits to maps and bonus caves. Definitely something I'm going to have to play with more. You have to alt tab out to get it to translate the terrain tiles correctly, because pressing shift copies your coordinates to the clipboard in the game. Or you could change your translation key, but I just alt tab out if I need to know what terrain I'm going over, since I don't need that info often. Combine this with control and the arrow keys, which causes the cursor in browse mode to move until it encounters an obstacle of note, and you can examine maps for special tiles and terrain fairly easily. I'm going to go back through the maps I've played already and see if I've missed anything special. That's going to be a lot of maps though, lol. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia questions
You can complete the tutorial if you want, but you don't actually get anything for it. I did with at least one of my saved games, but it isn't really necessary. There is no way to exit a map, at least not officially. If you hit alt f4 while you're in the alt menu it does exit the game, but it won't save your progress. You can save by going out of town onto the world map and choosing the save option close to the bottom of the list of options. Just so you know, this is easily the most complex audiogame ever made. There are tons of things to keep track of, from the 8 characters you play, to the maps of varrying size, to item, equipment and skill management. As fun as this game is, you might consider trying an easier japanese game first until you get used to how things translate and how non-tactical RPG's play. It's up to you and I'm really not trying to sound condescending or anything, but this is definitely not one of the easiest games to start with. -- From: Sarah Haake ti...@gmx.net Sent: Tuesday, January 22, 2013 06:23 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia questions Hi, so, I finally got this game to work under Windows 7, yay. *smiles* But I'm stuck already. I already realized that some levels can take quite some time and therefore it's possible that I have to stop in the middle of it. My second question is about the tutorial. Especially since the developer knows very little english and as far as I know, has no idea that his games are even being played in the states. The only one who seemed to show any interest in his english players is MM, the developer of Shadow Line. So yeah, good luck getting translations for these unless someone with a working knowledge of japanese decompiles and mods them somehow. -- From: Clement Chou chou.clem...@gmail.com Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2013 05:25 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia SecondBoss Fight Gotta say.. you'll be waiting a while for that. lol The likelyhood of it being translated is very, very slim... especially given that it has way way more text than bokurano daibouken, and even that translation is going terribly slowly. - Original Message - From: Bryan Peterson bpeterson2...@cableone.net To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2013 11:26 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia SecondBoss Fight I'll grant that it does soud fun but I'll wait and see about an English translation at some point. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia SecondBoss Fight
Does anyone know how to beat this thing? I did it once, but I decided to restart now that I can play properly, and for some reason I can not figure out how to beat it. I can kill all the monsters easily enough, but the lost soul just regenerates any damage I do to it. I have the best equipment from the shop, and my characters are pretty high level. I had it down to 27% hp once, but it just regenerated when it got a chance to move. Any ideas? Blaze did about 1% damage to it. Yasutaka did a bit of damage, but not much. And no matter what I do it regens, and teleports somewhere else on the level. The only reason I beat it last time is because there's a bug that made your monster pet thing level 99, which is probably how you beat it as well unless you just recently started playing after he took that bug out. Now I'm wondering if there isn't a bug that causes the lost soul to regenerate all damage when it's turn starts, heh. -- From: ryan chou ryan.chou1...@gmail.com Sent: Saturday, January 19, 2013 11:30 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Brave of Cloudia SecondBoss Fight the best thing I can tell you is, hit it hard and hit it fast momoka's blaze spell works pretty well if I remember right yatsutaka's skills did about a hundred damage on it too if I remember correctly pitty I can't replay the boss fight, I could help more if I could replay it well hope that helps somehow On 1/19/13, Shadow Dragon elementalult...@hotmail.com wrote: Does anyone know how to beat this thing? [Audyssey] Much easier Japanese Game Translation
Hello, This is for those of you that have wanted to try out the japanese games, but don't want to go through the hastle of pasting everything into google translate. It's also a lot easier to set up. Note that you will still need to install the japanese keyboard and IME for this to work properly. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2658966/Instant-Translate-2.1.nvda-addon Download this Addon and run it to install it into NVDA. If it tries to download as a zip folder for whatever reason, set your filetype to all files, and add the .NVDA-addon extension to the end of the filename. Credit goes to Sadavoi Alexi for this awesome Plugin. Now once you have your computer set up to display japanese correctly, including changing the system locale, all you need to do is go to instant translate settings in NVDA Preferences and set your input language to japanese. Do not use auto detect, as sometimes it tries to translate as chinese, which really does not work very well. Then you just select your japanese game of choice that has the auto-copy to clipboard function and you'll be able to play fine. NVDA shift T translates selected text, NVDA shift Y translates text from the clipboard. I don't think there could be a simpler way to play these games. I hope this introduces some new people to the awesomeness that is the japanese audiogames, and I hope you all enjoy. If anyone needs help with anything, either plug-in or game related, let me know and I'll see what I can do. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Just NVDA. What I find amusing about this message is that the PlugIn uses google translate for it's translation, lol. Maybe where you ran into problems was using the detect language option on google translate and having it try to detect japanese as chinese. As for translating menues, just be glad you have the PlugIn now and didn't do it the way I did when I was beating all of morokuma's games. I had to paste each menu option into google translate, and it got especially bad for item and equipment management. This PlugIn makes it much easier, easy enough that I've decided to give Brave of Cloudia another whirl and am doing a lot better with it since I can actually realistically equip my characters without it taking 4 hours, haha. -- From: Clement Chou chou.clem...@gmail.com Sent: Friday, January 18, 2013 12:29 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Much easier Japanese Game Translation Just gave it a wirl... and I have to say so far, for all the things I've tried, the translation is superb. I actually never found it of any use until I saw someone tanking in it so I decided to give it a try. I never bothered with it before because you can't take it off and identify it, but it turned out to be pretty awesome so I'm glad I got it in the long run. Bone shield and even bone blade can be useful too, if for nothing more than the breath save, and especially once you get soul bind, or whatever it's called. I have a full necroclev set for my warrior, and when fully enchanted I can get my tank set well past 470 AC. I need to work on that a little since I saw someone with a 594 ac set a couple days ago. Re: [Audyssey] Alter Aeon Anniversary Schedule
That's the same combination my necro character uses, and it's a pretty powerful one. it also mixes very well with warrior, it's my third class on Gordan and it makes him an awesome tank with bone armor. Just a recommendation, but you might want to forego the demon familiar in place of a ghoul or more skeletons. The ghouls are primarily damage minions with a lot of specials. Mummies supposedly make good tanks, but I've never had any luck with them, and zombies are just placeholders till you get ghoul basically. Demon familiars can be useful, but I've never found them very helpful in soloing accept for maybe the green demon, which helps with regen rates a little. But personally, I prefer more damage. I go with ghouls, but I've also seen people do either more skeletal warriors or more mages if they need extra elemental damage. -- From: Keith ks.steinbac...@gmail.com Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 06:46 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Alter Aeon Anniversary Schedule My hame in the game is Hellborn I'm a 29th level necro, a 24 level cleric, a 20 level mage, a 14 level thief and a 7 level warrior I usually load up on minons ( I can have 2 skeletal warriors, 2 skeletal mages, a wood woad, and some typeof demon familiar, but I can also riase an undead ghoul, zombie, or mummy, but I have yet to try the mummy). Re: [Audyssey] The first Bokurano Daiboukenn game.
The game needs to be able to output text to the clipboard. Most Japanese games can. In some cases it needs to be toggled, but not many, and it's usually not hard to find, like in Shadow Line you just pick the top option when the game starts. Then for any text, which includes menues, dialogue, descriptions of items, etc, the text will be output to the clipboard as it's displayed in the game. All you need to do then is paste the text into google translate set up to translate japanese, and it works fine. You will need to install the Japanese Keyboard and IME, in windows 7 this can be done under control panel, region and languages, keyboards and languages tab, and click the add button. Then just check the japanese keyboard and IME and they should install. Then in the game window, hit alt shift to switch to japanese and it will translate properly. You may need to set your system locale to japanese also. Note that this has no actual affect on your keyboard under most conditions. -- From: dan cook dan.sc...@gmail.com Sent: Wednesday, January 02, 2013 04:28 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] The first Bokurano Daiboukenn game. hi, this might sound like a stupid question, but how would you go about using google translate for game text? Re: [Audyssey] The first Bokurano Daiboukenn game.
There were initially plans to translate both BK1 and 2, story and all, into english. As far as I know, they've been scrapped because the developer doesn't have a good enough grasp of english to translate the storyline of either game. There was a project I was involved in for BK2 where we attempted to use google translate to finish up the storyline, but it proved to be to difficult without a working knowledge of japanese, so all we ended up doing was the menues, items and weapons and most of the monsters. I believe most of the shop texts are translated as well, but can't remember. This is probably as far as it will ever get unless someone who actually knows japanese very well gets involved in the project and is willing to put in the time and effort to translate the entire storyline. And I don't know that BK1 will ever be translated at all, probably not. Google translate does work to play any of the japanese games though, as long as you're willing to put in the time and patience, the game outputs text to the clipboard and you can make sense of a lot of poorly translated phrases. I've beaten all of the japanese RPG's that have been released so far using this method, including all 10 of Morokuma's RPG's, BK 1 and 2, MM's Shadow Line, fighting cores, Geki Ransen and a game called ArkWar. I've also made it pretty far in Brave of Cloudia, and though the plots don't always translate well, the game mechanics are understandable and you can generally get at least a basic idea of what's going on in the storyline. So I recommend that if anyone wants to play japanese games, use google translate and put in the effort, don't wait for translations that will probably never come or you'll just miss out. -- From: michael barnes c...@samobile.net Sent: Wednesday, January 02, 2013 07:38 AM To: gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] The first Bokurano Daiboukenn game. Re: [Audyssey] Bokurano Daiboukenn, The Story Continues
The enemies the copter spawns are little demons. They can be killed normally, though they tend to take a lot of hits, or they can fall or be pushed into the pits. As for the missiles, they can be jumped just like every other projectile in the game. You'll hear 3 beeps, and then a sequence of two short beeps just before he fires. If you're in close you can jump after the short beeps, if you're farther away you can jump when you hear the missile coming at you. Yeah, I guess I was leaving out someone who formerly had sight and went blind. I know someone who's been blind since birth, yet can somehow picture colors in her head. I was just talking about myself in particular and what it sounded like Charles and Scott were talking about. Now that I've read a couple more messages it sounds more like Scott is closer to my type of blindness. But there definitely is a type of blindness where you can not see anything, not even black. And I would think that would be pretty much impossible to imagine for someone who can see colors and possibly even imagine pictures, which I can't do either. Re: [Audyssey] best class combo for alter aeon?
Just curious as to why people always ask what the Best anything is in a mud? The idea behind an online game is to have everything balanced so that no one playstyle is better than the rest. Not every mud can accomplish this, it really depends on the coders and developers, but still, was just an interesting thought I had. I think best is relative to the playstyle of the player, but even then I wouldn't say there's one class combo that's over all the rest, I myself have two that I play very well. Having said all that the class order you've chosen is pretty good, especially for a beginner. Warrior thieves are always needed in groups as hitters, and you can also wear some of the best tank gear in the game, aka take a lot of damage for a group but not really deal any of your own. It's possible to solo with that class order, especially with cleric as your third class if you learn the healing spells, but it is tricky. If you're looking to solo easily, you want necro as either first or second. I have a necro cleric mage, which is amazing, though it does have low hitpoints so it may not be the ideal for anyone new to the game. A warrior necro or necro warrior might be better before you dig into the other magic classes for more hitpoints. Some people also like mage as primary or secondary for soloing, however I haven't tried this playstyle as it takes a long time to really get going with. Have also seen people have a fair amount of luck with cleric warrior or warrior cleric. It really just depends on what you want to play as and how good you are at mudding and figuring things out. Note that I focus on mostly the primary two classes, I've found that these will be your most useful until you start getting into the higher total levels. I have a total 85 character and I still find myself using my necro and cleric skills far more than even my mage skills. -- From: Keith ks.steinbac...@gmail.com Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2012 10:44 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: [Audyssey] best class combo for alter aeon? Re: [Audyssey] virus alert! on list
Looks like yours got hacked as well, but it was actually Oriol's account that sent the message. I translated the message from spanish using google translate. Not exactly certain what it was, but it had ogomez92 in one of the links, which is the name he goes by on twitter and some other places. [Audyssey] Shadow Line
For those that play Shadow Line, if any, has anyone figured out how to unlock the extra dungeon south of the temple? I have beaten the game 3 times, once on normal, once on hard and once on impossible, and I'm on my fourth normal playthrough. I've gotten every bonus item I can find on the map including several obscure ones, and I've talked to every person I can find in the game in all the villages. I think it gives you a hint when you try to enter the cave, but the translation is terrible. It says something about two people being a starting point, but as I said I've talked to everyone I can find. Any help would be appreciated, this is the last thing I need to complete before I've done all the content in the game. Then I plan to do one final playthrough on the newly added easy mode to see if anything unlocks and put the game down for a while. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Shadow Line Demo
I recorded a demo of the newest action RPG released by MM, called Shadow Line. The quality isn't the best because I had to do it on a desk mic so you can hear the keyboard in a lot of places, but hopefully it isn't too bad. It's also kind of big, just over 42mb in size. I demonstrate a few features of the game and play through the first dungeon. This is definitely one of the coolest audiogames ever to be released, and has one of the best soundtracks out there. It is the first of it's kind, the first 2d scrolling action RPG I know of. It's got the screen transitions of the older zelda games, a battle system a lot like Kingdom Hearts and a unique mechanic that gives it it's own originality. It's only drawback is that it's a bit too easy once you get used to it, some of the boss fights are especially disappointing other than that they sound awesome. But it's still fun and worth going through the plot if you know japanese or have the patience to translate it. The other option is to monitor the clipboard. Which means any text output to the game is immediately copied to the clipboard. That's how I play. I doubt the game will be translated into english, that would be assuming the guy even knows english. He has no games in english and his entire site is in japanese, so I tend to doubt that he does. Re: [Audyssey] Shadow Line Demo
You set the output to clipboard instead of PC Talker. Then you either use J Talk, get a Sapi voice for NVDA or some other synth and use insert c to read the clipboard, or you get a clipboard monitoring tool that can be set to use a Sapi voice to have it done automatically. I use clipboard output and paste it into google translate, and in that way was able to beat the game. I'm on my second playthrough now. -- From: shaun everiss sm.ever...@gmail.com Sent: Tuesday, October 02, 2012 08:41 PM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Shadow Line Demo how do you moniter the clipboard with nvda? Re: [Audyssey] Dead or Alive first impressions
By that same token I am probably the absolute least competitive gamer that ever existed. I don't care about competing with my friends or bragging rights as long as there's a good story to play through and some interesting characters. I've played a game online a grand total of once and don't intend to do so again because I found the experience mostly boring accept that I met one cool person. And while I ocasionally have friends over to play, that's mostly just for the purposes of hanging out and screwing around, not for competition. Just saying, there are different playstyles out there, everyone has their own reasons for gaming. Myself, I'm a hobbiest gamer. Now, I'm off to check out the latest japanese action RPG. -- From: Yohandy yohand...@gmail.com Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2012 09:53 AM To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Dead or Alive first impressions you don't get anything for trophies, but recently Microsoft launched a program where you actually get something for your gamerscore. I haven't found a game yet of any type that I can play for a long time. And actually I don't really have money, I just haven't had a new game to play in a while and this one sounds decent since it has a story mode. Not really interested in challenging the AI, trophies, etc, just want to play the story and maybe do a playthrough of it. As for 3d fighters, the godzilla games have the rage supers, SC5 as you've said, the dragonball z tenkaichi games definitely have supers, pretty sure the Naruto ones do as well. Urban Reign does also if you count that as a fighter, though I guess it's a little more of a cross with a beat 'em up.
