Re: [Audyssey] work around for realtech hd cards
well all the gma games are on software buffers now. the hd card does not cut it in here at least not nicely. It all depends on the games in question. I have set the buffers to as low as they go though everything runs quite nicely. hehe, you might have a point there Trouble. So far I've been very happy with how windows runs on this thing. No doubt it has its quirks though like any other system, I'm just not using windows heavily enough to discover what goes wrong. Anyway, I'll keep the Apple fan boy side of myself on a leash on this list lol. On 2/5/09, Trouble troub...@columbus.rr.com wrote: Your mac book is the reason you don't see these problems. hmm either you are lucky or for whatever reason you have a newer model. There are 2 types of hd cards. the origional cards realtech hd then the real tech alc hd. These seem newer than the older style of realtech hd. its possible that these cards have been fixed. even with the older drivers I have for this card there is still a bit of crackling. Re: [Audyssey] work around for realtech hd cards
The Realtek HD sound chip that I have in my desktop system has a driver tht ends in.. .5523 the sound from this chip was awesome! but then I tryed to get into audio chat rooms for the blind..and quicly found out the driver was flawed. when I went to volume control..it was impossible to select my microphone as my input recording device.. totally impossible. the entire recording setup scfreen appeared to be greyed out..nothing could be selected as the input device for recording. I googled this and found out thousands of folks had the same problem. I had to disable the onboard chip and put in a yamaha sound card to fix the problem. if you could steer me to the driver you say you use and it works fine, then I might like to go back to the onboard sound chip. it would be nice to get my PCI slot back for some other use. thanks for any help you can offer. r_montow...@yahoo.com Robert --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. hmmm tried to run the standard realtech hd 2.14 driver today. version is 393, my driver is 404 or something. the card was heaps lowder and more distorted. the menus jumped round like no one's business. well the recording control is where you unmute the mic. know this though you can only have the stereo mix or the mic on at the same time. unlike the old analog cards like soundmax where you could use the mic and stereo mix at once you can't anymore. the input and output devices are split the output is in the main controler the input is on the recording controler. There are 2 types of hd cards. the origional cards realtech hd then the real tech alc hd. These seem newer than the older style of realtech hd. its possible that these cards have been fixed. even with the older drivers I have for this card there is still a bit of crackling. I suppose if I really install the oldest drivers for the card the crackling may go away fully. but who knows. At 10:16 p.m. 4/02/2009, you wrote: Hi Shaun and all, Quick question for you. I'm running a realtech hd card here in a laptop, have never edited the ini files for any gma games, and receive no popping/crackling/laggy behaviour with gtc lw or sod as yet. Is that normal? Fi, my realtech hd is inside a core 2 duo 2.4 ghz macbook pro with 2 gb of ram, and I boot into windows native for gaming, although I've also seen the sound support perform without any of the mentioned issues under virtualisation. Just throwing my experiences into the mix to try and narrow down what causes it I guess. Cheers Scott On 2/4/09, shaun everiss shau...@xtra.co.nz wrote: Hi. This may help someone so I post it here. this is to fix the issue with the realtech hd cards that come in most new laptops and desktops. Although I can't fix every game with this card I can fix the gma ones, this applies to gtc lw and sod. edit the sounds.ini in the dorectory the game is loaded in. set sound buffers to 20, and then software buffers to 1. Advantages. faster and more responsive, at least on duel core systems with 2gb ram. Disadvantages. you don't get the cool hd audio effects. However you get rid of the crackles, weird interpritations, etc. the only way to really fix this is to update the drivers of the hd card however at least on my laptop this caused accessive crackling and lockups to the point where sound did not work right. If you have a desktop I strongly recomend you ditch the hd card, and get something that actually works, better yet something that is not hd audio or realtech. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org.
