Helllo Thomas!
Yes, I understand.
I've listened to the trailer and can say that it sounded good.
In my oppinnion, it seems not very different from the last beta of
montezumas return.
The musik is different, the player and the objekts you can pick up, but at
least, the prinzip seems to be similar.

That's gread.
Best regards,
Claudio.

Hi Claudio,
Yeah, its a side-scroller with a treasure hunting theme so obviously
there will be some similarities. Though, once I finish adding the new
random spon code someone gave me an idea for off list the game will have
a lot more replay value. After this weekend the potion bottles, gold
coins, scrolls, etc will move to different rooms from game to game. The
centaurs, harpies, and skeletons will also get randomly placed. So as a
result there will be a lot moe randomness to this game than Montezuma's
Revenge had.

Hello Thomas!
That's hard to hear that you are working on a projekt that you don't like.
But there's an easy way:
We could make a deal.
You drop the projekt and finish raceway.
The buyers from the mota game will become raceway for free.
Yes yes I know that this isn't the product the user want, but anyway.
I don't need the game...

Claudio.

Or he finish this project, get it off his back once and for all and then
finish Raceway and the other projects he wants to do. It wouldn't be fair to
all those who preordered Monte and Mota for him to just drop it. And anyway
I think he's got far too much integrity to do that.

Re: [Audyssey] random appearance of monsters

2008-11-14 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Charles,
Well, i wouldn't go as far to say it isn't worth the work. I do agree
adding random monsters would improve replay value a lot. I've been
thinking about the problem and there could be a way to do it without
killing myself. So after I get done getting level 1 stable I will look
into random monsters more and see if it is remotely possible without a
lot of extra work. I get that request so much that it almost seams like
a major disappointment for gamers if I don't do it.
Not only that, but I do see what everyone is saying. I've played MOTA
alot this passed week and it is to the point where everything is
automatic. Shoot this centaur, grab the gold key, grab the dagger/sword,
go kill the skeleton behind the statue, get the potion and gold coins,
etc. It would be very nice if instead of a skeleton it would be a harpy
or centaur. Instead of a centaur you get a skeleton or harpy. Whatever
just make it different enough that the game isn't totally the same thing
all the time. Besides if I add more random items it might improve its
sales chances. Always something to keep in mind.

Hi Claudio,
Sorry, but I really can't do that. In my opinion that would be dishonest
as well as cheating myself out of a chance to sell Raceway. At this
point there aren't that many Raceway pre-orders, perhaps 50, to fill and
giving away 150 to 200 copies would kill any chance of making anything
off of it. I can't afford to do that since I have invested quite a bit
of money into the production of that product.

[Audyssey] random appearance of monsters

2008-11-13 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Willem and all,
Sigh. Understand that the Genesis Engine was never designed with this
sort of thing in mind. It was designed to place monsters and items for
an FPS game and not for a side-scroller. To add certain monster
sponnning triggers like you propose means I have to reopen the Genesis
core again and redesign the way monsters are placed on the game level.
Your suggestion is completely uncompatible with the way things are done
currently. I don't want future Genesis based titles to do that. So if I
am going to decide to do this then I basically have to drop the idea of
using Genesis as the core engine behind the game. it needs to be stand
alone because the engine I planned to create and MOTA are becoming less
and less compatible all the time.
Besides i am currently working with a limited budget and with limited
time on my hands as it is. That is why I have set a personal deadline
for this game. I am suffering from extreme burn out, and after it is
released I don't ever want to create another side-scroller as long as I
live. The way I see it I am currently writing a game to pay my debt to
the buyers of the game, and not for myself. If I had any choice in the
matter, if I didn't have several pre-orders hanging over my head, i
would have trashed the game long ago. So I plan to create a decent
game, but please don't ask me to spend an extra six months or even six
weeks adding features that will put this game passed my initial
deadline. i just want it done and over with.

Cheers.

If a player enters a room, he would be standing on the floor, right.
Or if he would jump and land he would then be on the floor. So you
would have the Y coordinate automaticly and wouldn't have to randomly
find it.

Also if the door is opened, a check could be made if there would be a
monster on the other side of the door and if so, what kind. And if the
player walks past certain points, triggers could be set off to spawn
some random monsters.

That is just my humble opinion.
