Re: [Gimp-developer] Include resynthesizer plugin in Gimp distribution?

Thats a great idea.

I regularly use this plug-in and also teach others how to use it. Its VERY
useful when creating textures for 3d graphics. Today is only easy to install
on Linux: on windows and MAC is a pain to get it working.

Please take this into consideration before refusing.

Thanks.

2009-04-29 Thread Filipe Soares Dilly
2009/4/29 peter sikking pe...@mmiworks.net

 guys,

here is sort of a review of what has been discussed here:

To take this top-down: I can only see this change as an UI
improvement if it means getting rid of the bg color swatch.
Only then we can reach the goal of less user thinking,
 instead of more.

but some crucial things depend on the bg color.
the gradient tool being the big show-stopper for me.
the tool needs a redesign, but up to then the fg-bg
type of interaction looks to be the most (universally)
 usable to me.

Unless you make a ease and nice way of swathing (or alternating) colors, I'm
against it.
When you are painting (making a digital painting or painting on a mask...)
in the current version you just hit X to alternate between bg / fg colors.
Its just ease that way.

But I really like the bg color and the idea of always transparent new
layers.

Just my two cents. =)
Thanks for your efforts.

Re: [Gimp-developer] GIMP PDF export plugin

2009-03-22 Thread Filipe Soares Dilly
Just my two cents;

TIFF is more important to GIMP because TIFF is widely used on printing and
CG works. Its a common practice to use TIFF images in professional page
layout programs like Scribus and Adode InDesign for example. And some 3d
programs (like zbrush) use TIFF for export texture maps (in high bit dephs).

A better TIFF support would be more in sync with GIMP, me thinks.

Yes! Here is a Pack create by me, Daniel and organized by GIMP user Valerie

.
I can change the license if its not suitable for GIMP.

Thanks,

2008/7/30 Theodore Imre [EMAIL PROTECTED]

could do a bit of refresh untill it gets to next stable. I'd say why
not make gimp's site more inviting to artistic people, by adding a
poll or comment feature,a place where people can write tutorials or
speedpaints done by gimp (attaching images/embeding youtube) (see Open
Canvas' website).. also ask artists who use gimp to submit things like
palettes, brushes, skreentones ,and so on..or just add a link to
gimp-files.org (which btw is growing nicely), make polls about which
screentone, etc should be included in next gimp, which are the most
favorable ones, and so on.. I think that such a thing will make people
check gimp up more oftenly and its website too..

 i would suggest this palette:
 http://gatogirl12345.deviantart.com/art/Copic-Colors-for-The-Gimp-86084821
its a copic markers palette with all the copic markers colors. You know
how expensive these are? How much people love buying them exactly
 because of their colors? =P

also more dot-like dojinshi/manga/comic book screentones..
Gimp's brushes could use some new and nice ones. If all must be GPL, I
am willing to remake one or two, just to make them avaiable in gimp as
 default. =)

Thanks for the reference Valerie. I'm Filsd. :)

I agree with you. GIMP needs a new and revised set of default Brushes.

And in my experience as a professor of CG Art (using only open-source:
GIMP, blender...) I find many people that don't even think in GIMP as a
Digital Painting program until I show then some Brushes and Results made
with then. Many Digital artists I know only migrated to GIMP after using it
with these sets.

Some nice examples of artists that uses GIMP with my Brushes (the two last

good artists here in Brazil. How can I submit? If a change on the License is

Re: [Gimp-developer] 2.4 and how to continue from here

2007-10-29 Thread Filipe Soares Dilly
First of all I'm a Digital illustrator and 3d artist. GIMP in the actual
state is great. My job can be done in 2.4 easily (thanks for the Jitter,
scalable brushes and better zoom!). And I know that GEGL will be in the
future of GIMP and the interface already have great proposals (and
designers). So I decide to not propose these kind of features...

Ok, thats my feature request:

GIMP have a ease and very flexible way to create animated brushes, with
features like Random and Angular (to create brushes that rotates as
you move in different angles). The thing is: If we have some of these
features in the Tools Options for brushes will be more fast and ease to use
the brushes that are not animated.

Some examples:

- The Random feature could be simple rotating (in its own axis) the
original brush in a random way. Just a simple check box for activate it,
maybe a intensity control how much is random.

- The Angular could also be activated using a Check Box. The angle of the
brush changing as you drawn in different directions, dynamically rotating
the brush. His frequency controlled by the Space option in the Brush
Dialog.

- Other features that are avaible only creating animated Brushes could be in
to. But these to are just great.

Other proposal for brushes are a option to control the Softness and
Sharpness of Brushes. Today you need to create another brush just to change
his softness (or hardness). Maybe a good alternative is to have in the
Tools Options a Slider if two ways to go:

If you move the slider to the Left the brush will be Sharpened... to the
Right will be Blurred. Here is a very ugly mockup:

http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs21/f/2007/302/f/a/very_ugly_mockup_by_Filsd.png

Thats it and thanks for the hard work.

dock windows transient to the active image window. Unfortunately this
approach has shown to not work well with most window managers. But
perhaps this is something that can be figured out.

Maybe the idea of TABs (like in Firefox) is a good solution for this.
Grouping all images in Tabs can save you from the problem of many Task Bar

Just one thing: I'm using this compiled version of Rc3:

LoL. I find that I would be funny to open the GIMP and to see a hand making

Probably I will like the official splash, but since I released the splash as
creative commons no problems if that, everyone can use it :) . Just to let

What concerns brushes, I think it would be nice to have links to all
known brush, pattern, etc. pages in one central page (or even have
 resource database).

I think thats a great Idea. Especially in the official site of GIMP. It
could be like that: If the Pack of Brushes are Free (like Creative Commons
or other license) they can be put in the Official site of GIMP (not just put
the mirror, since the site can go down). If the pack is not free, put just a
link in the site. Of course not all the Brushes can be put, since some
brushes can be identical to others...
