I know this. It's hard to explain... I simply want to save in bmp, jpg...
format EXACTLY what i see on the screen. That's mean: image opacified by the
channel. So i've thought it's possible to "flatten" channel as you can
"flatten" layers but it seems it's not the case. So. What is the solution ?
I just got my copy of "Grokking the Gimp" from Amazon yesterday. It does
like like it is exactly what I need.
But the tool-box and menu's that I see on my GIMP don't exactly correspond
to what is in the book. (For example, I don't have the
Brush/Pallett/Gradiant Editing tool in the tool box). I
I knot this is probably not what you're looking for byt if you want to
save exactly waht you "see on screen" you could do a screengrab and then
save that.
Cherrs!

Good morning,
I apologize for posting before coffee. That last post had some awful
spelling errors.
Sorry about that.

grokking the gimp refers to what is now the development version, which is
stable enough for production and definately worth the effort to install.
if your using redhat 6.2 youll need to upgrade a few libs to try it, the
easiest way is just to get helix gnome, http://www.helixcode.com which

i know it doesnt make sense, but if you want to save exactly what you see
on the screen, [image]->layers->flatten image. dont worry about the fact
that "flatten image" is under layers. it does what your asking for.

as pointed out by someone else, you can also do a screen grab and save
that. the only difference is that by doing a screen grab you can get the
checker-board transperancy indicator in the actual image.

The 1.1 avaliable in Summer 1999 or so. If you get the latest 1.1, or
1.2 when avaliable, you should get all you see in the book. The book

Thanks to you and everyone else who has confirmed that.

Hello mike,
First, thank you for your response.
But no, it doesn't work, i've already tried this before. I will try to
explain better myself , using an example:
Imagine you've a photo of a crowd. You want to show up just a face on this
photo. So, you create a semi-opaque channel. Then, you sele
its much easier to just get helix gnome and let it do all that for
you. then if you want to keep up with cvs, uninstall gimp and get that
from the cvs tree. when you update helix, it should only upgrade the
packages you still have leaving your home built gimp intact. (at least on
debian, ill have

GIMP 1.1.29 is out there. This is a release candidate for 1.2. So scream
if you see any major brokenness.
