[hlds] Please Fix Exploit.

2013-08-24 Thread Violent Crimes
Can you please fix the exploit that allows players to attack use Split
packet attacks to take down servers. It has been around for years it
would be nice to have a update that included this instead of hats.

Re: [hlds] Please

2010-05-05 Thread Shane Arnold
Luckily, the Linux list still remains untouched by the drooling masses.

Kids, this isn't a forum. Stop having unrelated discussions on these
mailing lists. There are many real-deal, professional game server
providers and server administrators that don't want to have to trawl
through piles of useless shit like this to find anything remotely
useful. Go to IRC or www.srcds.com, steampowered.com or one of the many
other discussion mediums if you want to continue.

Thanks.

There will be no Iron Man 3. Rather, Valve will release Episode 3.
At least that was the plan. Valve will then skip 3 and 4 and release
Half-Life 5 following closing by Iron Man 6.

 P.S. Gabe is Iron Man.

Re: [hlds] Please

2010-05-05 Thread Saint K .
VALVe suggested to close this mailing list a while back. I've been on this list
many many years, and it always has been a great resource. Lately it just became
another trashplace for the same scum I ban on my servers for behaving like
under aged kids. For over 8 years we managed to keep this list clean of
trashtalk and childish behavior. From what it looks like this list cannot be
cleaned out anymore. Remove the trolls and they'll just return with different
accounts. I know I could resign from this list and be done with it, but I
won't, because I won't have a decent alternative. Perhaps by closing this list
and moving this to the official forums we can have some more moderation and
cleaner, useful topics for people to help one and other.

You people ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Saint K.

Send the list email to a gmail account setup a filter to mark everything
from the list as read already. Filter out the update emails or subscribe to
the update email list. You can still take a quick look at the email subjects
but they don't fill your inbox with worthless unread baby talk.

Its a good way to ignore the mentally handicapped on this list yet still be
able to pick up the few pieces of good information.

Re: [hlds] Please

2010-05-05 Thread Cc2iscooL
I don't think setting a new mailing list up would be a good idea, maybe
Valve needs to get some volunteer moderators for the list and just have the
list completely moderated (messages don't post until reviewed.)

It is starting to get pretty stupid as of recently.

Not to mention it would eliminate this recent spam coming into the board.

A lot of bugs and issues I've encountered I already knew about by reading this

Not sure if invite only would be a good idea. What about a new server host
who's not affiliated with any other groups and may need help? If it were
invite they'd have to know someone to get on.

There will be no Iron Man 3. Rather, Valve will release Episode 3.
At least that was the plan. Valve will then skip 3 and 4 and release
Half-Life 5 following closing by Iron Man 6.

So you're saying because you don't got problems with it. Valve should
keep it?

It's not TF2 and DoD:S that are affected. Even GMod is affected by it
and our achievement system in there works with SteamIDs and uniqueIDs. I
need to program myself an application that changes 26000 text files.
It's just that Valve doesn't do any communication about this. They could
atleast announced it. But no, Valve sucks so much they just do what they
want.

Re: [hlds] Please VALVe, keep the STEAM_1 now

2009-02-17 Thread Joeri van der Velden
The main change is that the STEAM_0: is now STEAM_1:, and STEAM_ID_PENDING
no longer exists (replaced by STEAM_0:0:0 I think). Because this changed and
we have no clue how the UniqueID gets derived, me and Ywa have to convert
all the text files. Nobody saw this coming, and probably shouldn't have
happened in the first place (whoever at Valve got the bright idea to change
the unique identifiers of all players without warning?).

Anyway, it's fixable. Too bad it broke HLstatsX too because that's a pretty
popular plugin.

I thought someone had posted the algorithm to convert between SteamIDs and

That example is in C, I believe, and a quick google search should turn up
similar results for PHP.

[hlds] Please add the option customize bans file save location

2008-05-16 Thread Steven Hartland
Its that time again where I request the option to customise
the location where bans are stored.

Every other part of a hlds server can be configured except
this, please please add it.

If you want to be really nice and make admins life much
easier add an option to root the servers config directory
so the server will look in a specified directory for all
config related files before it goes to /cfg.

For more info on both these see my posts in the archive
titled:-
1. A quick fix to make Source infinitely more GSP friendly
   ( posted 27 February 2008 21:42 )
2. banlists still broken + config system enhancement request
   ( posted 25 October 2007 01:47 )
3. CSS Hardcoded banlist path
   ( 17 October 2005 14:58 )

Alfred has responded to at least one of these but we still
to date haven't had a fix. I really should be a simple one
and would be most appreciated so I hope it can get added.

Regards
Steve

I agree that a user-set config directory would be nice...running
multiple servers off the same installation would be much easier in that
regard, and most other games already support a base config directory.
Why not source?

2008-05-16 Thread Mike Stiehm
I know its a huge pain in the ass but I run a new directory
for every server and I can say it has saved me more then one
time. It does take a long time to make changes to the servers
but I like the simplicity of it. I'm not opposed to the system
you are proposing but it should have an on and off switch or
of the sorts.

Take care guys and enjoy this weekend ;)

I think it you should be worried more about the 100 other bugs instead of
your ban.cfg Use amx bans or source bans or some other sql base system.

Re: [hlds] Please add the option customize bans file save location

2008-05-16 Thread Andrew Armstrong
I hate posts getting side tracked on this list :|

It's a very nice feature request.

If a 'config directory' was specified, eg:

Srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -configdir server2/

Then instead of srcds accessing /cstrike/addons/load plugins it could
check /cstrike/server2/addons/load plugins as well as
/cstrike/server2/cfg/server.cfg etc.

I think such an option would be really helpful to allow different plugins to
be loaded from the same game installed per server.

Re: [hlds] Please add the option customize bans file save location

2008-05-16 Thread Steven Hartland
Parva? I didn't know my name had suddenly changed, wish people
would tell me when that happened :P but enough of totally
off topic

If you read the original mail, so your actually talking about
the right thing, it might help.

I'm talking about the fact that server1 and server2, run
from the same install, will merrily overwrite each others ban
files.

Batch files don't help, symlinks don't help, the only way to
fix this to add a config option to the engine so we can
define where they are written to.

Regards
Steve

Re: [hlds] Please consider add HUD messages in CS:S DOD:S

2008-05-13 Thread Joshua Handelsman-Woolf (DogGunn)
Wait for the games to be ported over to the new Source 2007 engine
before requesting missing features which are (from what I gather)
required to be added to the engine.

Can Valve consider add HUD messages in CS:S DOD:S in client side?

like cs 1.6, it can display any colour message on client screen at any
 position.

HL2 DM already have HUD messages display, but why remove in CS:S DOD:S?

I had hear about font definition in HUD messages, but HL2 DM haven't that
 problem?

Also, CS:S have a Center HUD message, so i think it not a font definition
 problem.

In cs 1.6 HUD message can provide many informations, effects to client and it
very powerful. Although, CS:S include HintText, it can't send large
information, change the colour, display message in any loction on the
 screen.

Finally, can Valve reconsider to add HUD messages in CS:S DOD:S in client
 side?

Please email to me what Valve consider about this.
