So Walter, are you a Pollywog now? I have been over the equator a number of
times even making it across the Zero parallel once. I did it on a real Navy
ship
which was a lot more messy than what one goes through in a commerical ship.

Hi Walt
You'll almost be in Honolulu by now...fascinating to track your listening
across the Pacific.
As you've found, it's a bit of a wasteland in terms of signals originating
within the islands themselves.
You heard nothing from American Samoa because nothing is on the air. KJAL
has been silent
As I noted about three weeks ago, WSYW 810, a 250 watt DAYTIMER (w/PSRA)
is still signing on what I understand to be an hour too early. They are
signing on at 0500 EST. I don't want to be labeled as a troublemaker,
but I did get the courage up to call the station. Got the GM's
voicemail and
Rob,
Good catch on WSRO. Sounds like it's what you heard, as there aren't a lot of
other choices on 650, especially in Portuguese. There are a few Portuguese
stations in that section of Massachusetts, including one on FM I logged via
tropo a few years back that had be confused for a while.
Bill and Nigel may well have gotten nothing in audio. I had next to
nothing, especially if you eliminate the murmur level stations
Less than half a dozen of the historically strongest made it into
fair level audio this AM. I hoipe everyone else slept in!
John B.
Four more Mornings
Got a call from Bart Johnson, GM at WSYW (although he said WEDJ, their
FM counterpart) and he did agree that an 0500 EST sign on was too early
and that the automation must be out of whack. He will contact his
engineering staff. He also wondered if the s/off was happening too
early as well.
Listened from 1340-1415 ut and conditions was better than yesterday but not by
much. At first no audio was heard but around 1405 ut I got a few with audio.
All audio was very weak and on the bottom part of the band.
279 Russia just above the noise level.
558 Very poor not sure who.

Next time, give us a few days to pick it up before you contact people to
straighten it out. :)

Sure - However, I reported that on 5 November, also. :) Be advised, if
there engineering is contracted out, it may not be tomorrow before it
gets fixed. I'd check tomorrow at 0500 just in case (and hope WGY is
off). :)

Tells you something about their audience size if they don't even know if
they are signing off an hour early.

GM, I don't think that he even knows that WSYW runs it, he was wondering

Hello All,
Once again the seemingly dead band managed to resurrect itself with a late
peak, but this time the peak was shorter than usual, and included the high
band frequencies also.
Right up until 1520 the TP's showed very little promise, and it would have
been easy to assume that the

Definite enhancement this morning at sunrise (from 1515 to 1545UT), as Gary
noted, and definitely pretty stinky before said enhancement, as John noted, so
sunrise mostly meant that the big guns only just started getting fired up.
Listening was sporadic due to other commitments this morning,

Bear in mind that the meters value is generally an approximation,
without the level of precision the kilocycles value implies.

Well, John wasn't too far off the mark. Managed to hear a grand total
of four TPs with audio, 2 Japan (747,774) and 2 Korea (972,1134). Only
972 and 774 were at anything like a listenable level though.
Let's hope John's four remaining mornings show an improvement.

Bill,
There is a lot of activity in the West on 1030 too. Probably the same
reason I have never heard 1550 Tucson up here either. I did not get home
early enough to check the signal on KDUN, but they were sure strong last
afternoon.

Your UNID on 860 is probably KTRB. They're sports and their night pattern sends
all of their signal in your direction.
KTCT is only 10 KW at night and they are quite strong in Maui. Both KTNQ-1020
and KTLK-1150 (diplexed) are also quite strong there. All three have night
patterns that send
Your UNID on 1670 could be KHPY. They're 10 KW/9 KW DA-2 and always have been.
I think they're directional to protect an XE but that doesn't explain the
additional power at night.
