[IRCA] KGA ecletcic new format - Sports Hip Hop.
Geesh talk about an eclectic format. Just a few minutes ago at 12 Noon PST, 16 January 2019, KGA switched its format to Sports and Hip Hop. They are branding it has "103.5 The Game. Sports and Hip Hop." I wonder how well it will go over in Spokane. At least they seem to be keeping their KGA Call sign. Are there any other stations in the USA with this format? Re: [IRCA] [dxld] AM radio struggling to keep listeners.
I understand Brandon. However, the conservative talk and sports radio aside, what will AM radio offer to listeners in the future.? My adult children, around 30 years old give or take, do not listen to AM radio and rarely if ever listen to FM radio. I know that my experience is anecdotal, but the ratings suggest that fewer and fewer young people are indeed listening to AM radio. I have to wonder what form AM radio will take in the next 15 to 20 years. And I love AM radio, and have for over 50 years. [IRCA] IBOC reception
This past week a new toy, a Sony XDRF1HD HD Radio Tuner arrived in my radio shack. For the past couple of days I have had a chance to play around with it. I already like it. With it, I am able to tune the first adjacents on FM. AM seems okay enough, but it does suffer a little bit from overload. Last night I tried it out on several IBOC stations in this part of the country. It was able to decode at least five different stations that were received by skywave. WBZ was the easiest of the bunch. This evening I managed to decode WOR for about one minute. So it is possible to DX decoded IBOC signals, as challenging as it is. As I have some time, I will write a more comprehensive report. lately. Re: [IRCA] Who's on 1170?
KBS's QSL policy. As a matter of policy, KBS QSL's only their foreign service programs. In most cases, a report for a domestic program gets trashed by the domestic service personnel, or sent to the Foreign section where they trash it. However, you might get lucky and your report ends up with someone who will take the time to answer your English language report. That said I have received a 100% response rate for Korean language reports, including both Seoul and regional stations. Bill John H. Besides this collapsible frame variant (designed for travel in a compact car), there have been 18 and 2' tabletop PVC Loop variants, 3', 4' and 5' indoor models, a 7' longwave model, 6', 7', 8' and 9' (side) monster MW models, and waterproofing designs. John Bryant has advised me to finish up the basic PVC Loop article as a priority project, and deal with the different variant articles later. The performance of the 8' PVC Loop at Grayland was a real thrill, and it has certainly earned itself a spot in my future DXpeditions. [IRCA] AM FM mp3 recorder
My wife got me a CC Witness AM FM radio mp3 recorder for Father's day and I have been playing with it for the past few days. I love it! The ability to record mp3 files both AM and FM stations on a small hand-held device is fantastic. It sure beats the heck out of fiddling with cassettes and this one does mp3s and not WAVs like previous devices. A more complete review will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks. [IRCA] Splicing files!
I know this may sound crazy, but I decided to try to splice files together assuming they have the same center frequency and the same bandwidth. I recorded several files that met the above criteria and spliced them with GoldWave, and it worked fine, with just a couple of hitches. I wanted to do this because I these files were next to each other in time. I had a problem with Spectravue cutting off in the middle of recording (that is another issue), and I had to restart them. As long as the restart interval is not too much, it doesn't really matter significantly. Anyway, the audio of the original recordings were still intact on the spliced file. You can still scan through the file as normal. However, the spliced file lost some of Aux information like the center frequency and the original time stamp. Also, I don't know why but the spliced file was a little bit wider than the original recordings (originals - 150 kHz and spliced - 158.727 kHz.) For the center frequency, if you enter the correct center frequency when you load the spliced file and it works just fine. I don't know how to fix the time stamp, so you have to live with the new one. So, if you ever have a reason to splice files together, it is possible. Now back to DXing. Re: [IRCA] Time Pips on 153
Thanks Nick and Steve: Last night, I was on line on #MWDX StarChat with Chris Knight in Colorado who was picking Japan on 747 etc. On a whim, I decided to try out LW to see if I could pick up something from across the Pacific, so I went down to the LW band. I got a carrier on 153 and heard the pips fight at 0700. Right after sending the original message, I tuned to 162 and France was there in all its glory. So, I believe this was a lingering TA, probably Algeria. Back to square one. Maybe someday I will hear an elusive TP hear on the East Coast. [IRCA] carrier on 693 Part 2
Okay, I tried again for the 693 carrier this morning between 0830 and 0900z using the same antennas as yesterday. I could not get an antenna to the NW to work right, so I don't have a good bearing. Anyway, I had some threshold audio this time and with a little work, I might be able to get something out of it. The station had musical selections with announcements. This does not sound like NHK that I remember from Korea. There was only slight traces of a signal after 0900. This time, no traces on 747 and 774. There was a 20 second or so blimp around 738, but that could have been from 740's audio - a song hitting that frequency Well, I am now leaning towards a lingering European.
