Last reminder: This is next weekend. So far I only know of Eva and me going, which would be unusually low attendance from our club. We have one more seat in our car (two will be cosy but might work) and one bed in a large AirBnB (and maybe also a sofa). We plan to leave between 12pm and 1pm on Friday and to return Sunday around 7pm. Let me know if you are interested in joining us. [Juggle] RIT Juggling Festival
Hi all, the RIT Juggling Festival in Rochester NY is coming up in a few weeks April 5th-7th with Wes Peden performing Rollercoaster in the show: https://ritjuggle.blogspot.com If you were ever curious to attend a juggling festival, this is the one to go to. It's by far the largest in the region and reachable in a 5h drive. We usually car-pool up there, leaving around noon on Friday and coming back Sunday evening. The CMU juggling club also has a budget to reimburse travel costs (hotel, gas, tolls, even a rental car if needed) for CMU students. Important: The festival is on the weekend before the solar eclipse which goes through Rochester on Monday. As a result, hotels are already much less available and more expensive over the weekend (and almost nothing available for Sunday to Monday if you want to stay for the eclipse). *I would strongly recommend to make plans now!* Eva and I will go and I think several others were interested too. [Juggle] Upcoming Juggling Festivals
Hi, a couple of juggling festivals have been announced in the last couple of weeks: Sep 1-3 (Next weekend) Big Red Juggle Fest at Cornell has been revived. Ithaca, NY (~6h drive). Eva and I are going. https://cornell.campusgroups.com/JugglingClub/big-red-juggle-fest/ It's run at the same time as the Hupstate Circus Festival with many circus shows on the same weekend https://www.hupstatecircus.org/ Sep 23 Ann Arbor Juggling Arts and Flow Festival is a 1-day festival in Michigan (4h drive). It has happened many times, but I've never been https://jugglingedge.com/event.php?EventID=5901 Oct 13-15 Cleveland Circus Festival is back, organized at Case Western University. Usually several of us travel together there. Dates for Poconos (5h drive, usually early March) and Congress (4h drive, usually May) have not been announced yet. At least Eva and I are going too. We usually stay at the Red Roof in Henrietta. It's cheap and okay and a short drive to RIT. There are several other hotels nearby. We usually have funds from the juggling club to cover/reimburse hotel costs. [Juggle] 5PM Juggling in the Ohara Ball Room of Ohara Student Service Center
Come and join the Pitt Juggling Club in the O'hara Ball Room starting at 5:00 PM. We will be going for a while so do not worry if you are showing up a bit late. We know it is pain to get there at exactly 5:00 PM so we will be there for a while. It is really nice to juggle in a ball room with hundred year old Tiffany crystal chandeliers. [Juggle] Upcoming juggling festivals
Hi all, a lot of juggling festivals are now finally returning after a pandemic pause. Here are a couple of upcoming ones within driving distance. Let us know if you are interested in joining: *March 3-5 -- Pocono Juggle/Circus Arts Fest (~5h drive to east/central PA)* This is a smallish but nice and friendly local festival that some of us have been too in the past. They attract a lot of jugglers from the New York and Philly region and usually bring in some good acts for the show. *March 24-26 -- RIT Juggling Festival (5h drive to upstate NY)* This is one of the largest and best local juggling festivals in the US (usually >300 jugglers). We have been going as a group pretty much every year. If you can only make one, try this one. *Late April/early May -- Congress of Jugglers (bus or 4h drive to DC)* Smallish festival at the UMD campus near DC which we have attended a couple of times. Usually very informal and organized at the last minute. No date announced yet for this year, but usually around Mother's Day. *June 9-1 -- Philly Fest 2023 Juggling Festival (train, bus, or 6h drive)* Smallish festival at the circus school in Philadelphia. Moved to the summer this year. Very nice space in the circus school. *July 17-23 -- IJA (train or 6h drive to IN)* Weeklong national juggling festival with about 400 attendees and lots of shows. Somewhat pricy to attend. Within driving distance this year. Most festivals except IJA are free and charge maybe $10-20 for the show. Juggling festivals are very informal, like long juggling club meetings with workshops and a show. Happy to tell you more about them if you have never been too one. We often go as a group and share accommodations. The CMU juggling club usually has funds to support car rental, gas, tolls, or even hotels for a trip. I suspect that I'll attend all of these except Poconos. If you are interested let us know at some of our meetings. Others: We might try to do our own (*FluggleBurgh*) again in the fall if we find a space, stay tuned. *Cleveland* also used to have one in September. If you are up for flying to a festival, I can really recommend *Mondo* in St. Paul, Minneapolis March 3-5. I'd say RIT and Mondo are the best festivals in the US; Mondo has lots of unicyclists too. The big European festival *EJC* usually has >3000 jugglers but is still in flux for this year. [Juggle] 4PM Juggling in Newell Simon Happy Hogmany
Well folks I would like to invite you to celebrate Hogmany with us this Sunday starting at 4:oo PM. We will have snacks so come on by for some new years fun. I have just finished making some of my great grandmother's fruitcake. She would turn over in her grave knowing I replaced the lard with coconut milk to make it vegan. So you have to come out, I have defiled part of my heritage for the sake of Vegans. We will be in Newell Simon Hall because it looks like it might rain and the ground will be squishy. If we can meet outside on the cut I will send another email. Hogmany is the Scottish celebration of the new year. It is why you sing a Scottish song on New Years Eve, the English stole that from us. Anyway, the Scottish celebrate it by blowing things up and lighting stuff on fire. There is also a great deal of drinking but we are going to skip that. I don't think I am allowed to bring a bottle of scotch to the campus. I fear we will also not be lighting anything on fire. There will be some LED toys and we can sneak outside if it not raining. Well it looks like it is going to rain and we do not have an indoor place to meet Thursday Evening. If the weather forecast is entirely wrong we will meet at 4PM. [Juggle] Thursday Juggling on CUT at CMU4 to 6:30
With the threat of rain the good wise leaders of juggling in Oakland have chosen to move Wednesday Juggling to Thursday. So come and join us outside Purnel Center for Performing Arts between 4:00 and 6:30 PM this Thursday. So please do not come out this evening. Please join us Thursday. I would like to welcome all the new folks to the group. If there is something that you would like to learn please let me know. We have extra equipment we only bring out when it is needed. We also have some very talented people who would like to share theirs skills with you. All they need to know is who wants to learn what. A couple of folks asked about juggling fire or swords. As for swords I have a good set of practice swords that I will bring on Thursday. They do not have a sharpened blade on them but are correct in all other ways. I will ask you to prove that you can juggle clubs before we let you try the swords. Even though they are not sharp they are still heavy and not a good first step clubs. As for fire we are not allowed to do this on CMU property. The Steel City Clown Brigade has a couple of places where we juggle fire. If we have several people interested we can get a permit for Duck Hollow which is a fifteen minute bus ride from the CMU Campus. For the two people just interested in Fire Poi we have a place we do this weekly on the South Side. You can email me if you are interested in the weekly Poi or if you would like to participate or watch a larger meeting. I will warn everyone doing fire in public spaces in Pittsburgh, there is a Barbeque Law. If you have an open flame in a public park you must have a good and recently inspected fire extinguisher. The current Pittsburgh Fire Marshall has judged that fire blankets are not adequate. They have fined people who did not have fuel in the correctly color coded certified containers. The best thing is to keep your white gas or lighter fluid in it's original container. A new AB extinguisher with a powdered flame retardant is not toxic to people. Of course the best defense is juggling competence and not setting yourself on fire. To the people who ordered masks online Tuesday or today your masks will be ready Thursday. You can pick them up at the juggling welcome table outside Purnell Hall between 4:00 and 6:30 PM. If you need or want cotton face masks you can order them at http://www.steelcityclownbrigade.org. There is a google thing a ma bob that walks you through the process. If anyone would like to help make masks we are teaching sewing and have a couple extra machines. We are also willing to teach people how to sew. Email me if you are interested. [Juggle] No Juggling but Free Masks
I just wanted to check in with everyone while we are sheltering in place. If
you are in Pittsburgh and need a mask please let me know. My clown Brigade has
a pile of fabric we usually use to make juggling balls. We have been making
facemasks. These are plain fabric masks designed to keep you from contaminating
other people. They are not medical grade. You can put a surgical mask inside of
it to gain some extra utility.
If you need a mask please email me your name and address. I will also need to
know you age and gender {so I know how big your head is}.
Also if you would like to send a clip I am still working on a clip show. In the

Starting this coming *Thursday*, we will have some "meetings" happening outside of the official club. This email list will be used to provide information on where you can find these unofficial meetings. *Thursday, a meeting will be held on the cut.* Please!!, *look at the following list if you plan to attend.* - Safety first! CMU has cancelled all classes and club meetings. We will be following this directive and not meeting this Sunday. The Ides of March March has also been postponed until a better time. First and foremost it is important that we be safe during this time. Miss Fields has asked me to invite people to correspond with her. She is
currently facing personal demons and is having a difficult holiday. If anyone

situation will know why. The lion share of the fault lies with the racism and
inhumanity of American Society. This is one of those times when a victory can
be snatched from defeat with a fair measure of compassion.

It is Sunday and we will be meeting in Newell Simon Hall at 3PM in the Atrium. As the students of CMU are getting ready to head home you should take this time to come and juggle with them. For all of the Slack Line People from the Summer you should stop by and try out our indoor slack line. If you do something really cool you could end up in Cracky's Holiday Video. Anyone interested in going to the Richmond Juggling Festival next weekend (Dec 13-15)? It's a 5.5 hr drive. I already spoke with one of the organizers and they can probably help us find a place to sleep. There's also a hostel in Richmond if that doesn't work out. You should also know that Herbert A Simon built a lifelike android that he named Allen Newell. Dr Simon was too busy winning the Nobel Prize and other accolades. This is why he built Allen Newell. It looks as if the weather is going to be nice on Friday so lets juggle at 2:oo PM on the Cut, we will go till seven. We will string up our trio of trees with slack lines and throw some stuff around. We are only a hundred emails away from one thousand emails on our list. I would like to once again ask everyone that can to sign up for the Bridge website. Not only will it help out budget it will help us get better rooms. Apparently the college does not count out membership by how many people actually show up at meetings. If we can get 100 people signed up on the Bridge it will make it easier for us to get better and bigger rooms. If we are going to put up slack line rigs this winter we will need bigger rooms. [Juggle] 3PM Juggling on the Cut
The weather forecast is a wee bit iffy. Even so we will get together on the Cut unless it is pouring rain. So join us early at 3:oo PM on the Cut. We will still be there for our regular time. We just want to get in some extra time and get 1000 emails. So please invite your friends and any random people you happen to meet. [Juggle] 4PM Juggling at Schenly Plaza
We will be meeting next to Dippy the Dinosaur at Schenley Plaza for juggling at 4:oo PM this Sunday. Do not worry Dippy is a herbivore and poses no danger to us. Schenley Plaza is only a couple blocks down Forbes Ave just past the Carnegie Museum. We will have at least 4 slack lines and our usual assortments of props. We can also head over to the Chinese Buffet after the meeting. I would like to thank everyone that has been helping out with setting up, breaking down and PR. We only have 150 emails to get to 1000 on our email list. A couple more meetings like we had on Friday should put us over the top. [Juggle] 5PM Juggling on the Cut Maybe
Well the weather in Pittsburgh is once again having fun with us. If it is nice out were will be on the cut. I will be trying very hard to be there by four so that we can get in some extra juggling time. If it is raining we will be in Newell Simon Hall's Atrium next to the Inoodle. If the weather is nice this should be out first time with three slack lines so that will be fun for everyone that is into that. We should also have some more juggling balls to give away so please invite your friends or random people you meet. I am circus folk and not that picky. I will teach almost anyone to juggle. Some of us had a rather lengthy conversation about the Floppoton versus a Circus Organ. In the UK they call them Fairground Organs because the Brits can never let anyone have anything without trying to claim it themselves, but I digress. Well folks we are going to have some extra juggling over the next couple weeks in honor of the young people visiting CMU. So please join us this Friday at 5:oo PM on the Cut.
