Good evening. The list has been very quiet the last few days so after a
conversation with my husband this evening discussing roller pillows, I
thought I'd ask the list for input. I have a roller pillow that I made 11
years or so ago using Doris Southard's pattern. It's been a nice pillow to
Thank you, Brenda, Clay and Alice for your comments. I guess that shows one

silk etc., have different numbering systems but I also thought that a size

I have a question regarding threads and their plies. What would be the
difference in say a Fresia 60/2 and a 60/3? I understand plies from a
spinners/knitters point of view- I prefer to make and knit with a 3 ply as I
like the more round yarn-particularly if I'm wanting to knit something

These come up periodically. I believe it's a molinillo (a Mexican whisk) for
making hot chocolate. You can see similar ones at this link.

A very pretty one.
Wow! So many ideas and so much advice giving rise to yet more questions.
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my questions. I
felt sure I knew the answer to the gimp question, particularly since I'm not
fond of lots of starts and stops with lots of ends in the piece. I just

What a great idea, Sue! I watch my weaving friends do this for making
placemats and napkins but never thought about it for lace.
Thanks,

Jo, what a great idea your scrapbook spine is. I will no longer throw those
away when my daughter is finished with her books at the end of this school
year.
Clay, thanks for starting this thread. I've learned a lot.

In another week I will travel to Venice and plan to visit Burano to see the
lace. Does anyone have specific information on must-see places?
Shops that are recommended? Museums? I know that Burano lace is a needle
lace (which I know nothing about) I hope to pick up a few pieces while
there. Is
Definitely a molinillo - a Mexican hot chocolate stirrer. Not a whisk, per
se, but you put it into the cup, place the handle between your palms and rub
it back and forth to froth up the milk and mix in the chocolate. They can
be quite ornate. Check out this web-site for a photo and more
Hi Laurie,
I'm all in favor of saving paper! Is there a way that IOLI can set up a
PayPal acct. so that in the future we can just e-mail you our form and make
a payment via PayPal? Saves paper, envelope and stamp.
Thanks for all your hard work!

Thanks Clay and Laurie,
Is this something new? I looked back at my Spring issue and didn't see
anything. I'm still waiting on my Summer to arrive. No doubt it will

Oh no, Sue,
You don't need to access PayPal through the IOLI site. Just go to PayPal
and click on the send money tab. It will ask you what e-mail address you
want to send the payment to and you use,

Our summer has finally calmed down after DD's graduation from university and
her wedding and I've now had a chance to sit down again at my lace pillows.
Just before heading back to the States in May, I had finished a piece of
lace but didn't have the time to take it off the pillow. When I went
I'm doing the happy dance because I've finished my daughter's wedding garter.
Actually I finished the garter a little over a week ago just before leaving
for a week long holiday in Morocco. Made our trip all the more enjoyable to
know I'd finished.
I've made a bit of lace before but usually just
Thanks for that bit of advice, Sue. Hadn't thought about it creasing so the
fold wouldn't come out after being pressed. Do you think that will be a
problem? I've kept it on a roller as I made it. I've sewn the garter
together so short of putting it around something quite large- 30- then it

Hi Ilske,
I've not made lace with the bamboo threads, but I have purchased the fiber,
spun it into yarn on my spinning wheel and then knit up the yarn. I didn't
care for the end result. The fiber didn't feel great in my hands for spinning

Well, I landed in Belgium last week and DH had the house all set up already

advice regarding wedding garters and received quite a few responses with
some useful ideas.

Okay, I'm very guilty of just glossing over and deleting things that don't
