Hai, It depends on what kind of dolution you require.It is not required that you do nating with ipchains for squid.But if your SQUID has a public IP and is not behind a firewall then it is advisable to run ipchains/iptables. Regarding speed,you should have ur ipchains/iptables rule sets

Err. That's not the case. TCP/IP is a suit of protocols which contains IP protocols like ARP/RARP to resolve routing and TCP protocols to handle assembling disassembling packets into streams and vice versa. Protocols like ftp/http are application level(IIRC) ones which are on top of TCP/IP.
