Probably you don't have MSVC Runtime installed.
LyTeX included portable versions of MikTeX and LyX and works fine. No
other LaTeX-Distribution is needed.

Personally, I hate ribbon menus from the bottom of my heart. I find
them quite difficult to use, it takes ages to find what you are
