Hi, I agree that from a VO prospective, this is certainly a bug. The workaround is to use System Prefs. Go into System Prefs, Accessibility, then select Speech from the table. The default System voice will be announced in the pop-up. Choose Customize from this menu and you can uncheck

Hi. If you're trying to adjust speech rate on the Mac, the command to adjust speech attributes has changed. Now in addition to pressing VO+Command, the shift key has to be added. So to change speech rate, press VO+Command+Shift+Right arrow to go to rate and then up and down arrows to adjust
