The letters differ depending on if you are referring to them as a model number suffix (300TE is a gasser wagon), or as a chassis prefix (S124 is a wagon). Here's the list of chassis prefixes that I know of: W = sedan (W124, 300E) S = wagon (S124, 300TE) C = coupe (C124, 300CE) A = cabriolet
