What's the point of taking it into the woods if you can't carry any firewood in
it? Cargo capacity is reminiscent of the Syclone. It can tow a lot more than a
Syclone, but I think you'd need a load distributing hitch to keep the tongue

I'm gonna stick with my sand dune toy / Baja racer wannabe assessment. The 6

This too is now complete.

On the clutch system, Rusty got me a new slave cylinder, new
master cylinder supply hose (used to be a lenth of bulk

003-997-12-52 for about $8).  I took the master cylinder from
a parts car, honed the bore, cleaned it up, and used it.

The clutch master cylinder as a whole seems to be
interchangable - but not the sub parts!  The rods from the
pedal to the piston were NOT the same length, so the rod needs
to stay with the rest of the cylinder.

[MBZ] Snapon worklight=cord reel

Got a Snapon worklight and cord reel #922670 from Costco for Xmas. Snapon
seems to be letting Costco sell Chinese made stuff under its name.
Worklight and reel both seem to be very good quality ($40). Only defect was
cord-to-worklight catch that doesn't want to release when you try to
disconnect cord from light. It seems to be stuck tight but shouldn't be
difficult to figure out how to get it apart since it's standard three wire
plug and receptacle. Maybe the reel on this one won't get jammed like the
cheap ones.

Re: [MBZ] '76 240D PHX CL

2010-12-27 Thread Dieselhead
I believe in originality and OE/OEM parts wherever practical, and
with the resources we have in Rusty, Kaleb and internet searches, it
is almost always practical.

However, a york rebuilt has a very short life cycle/MTBF. A new York
is a little better, but expensive. A japanese rotary used
compressor, probably has more MTBF than a new York and will be a lot
less drag on the engine. Look for a wreck with under 100k or with an
obviously new compressor. To me, in the PHX area, a reliable A/c
system is a big deal.

A 115 240D probably never going to be a museum piece, and as long as
the compressor mount is on the engine, it can always be converted
back to a york if you decide to spend the money ($30k to 150k) to
restore and show it.

You need to get a siphon hose with a spring valve thing at the end. Put
the hose (full of water) in the carboy, with the carboy on the counter,
your bottles down below on the floor or a stool, let the water flow out
and when beer starts flowing, let it run into the bottles. Easypeasy!

I started off think $3.00+ per bottle for German beer was getting to be a

Re: [MBZ] '76 240D PHX CL

2010-12-27 Thread LWB250
I have converted a couple of cars from Yorks to Sanyos using aftermarket
adapter brackets and fittings. There is enough demand out there that the parts
are easily found on the 'net and not terribly expensive.

I helped a friend do a 108 conversion a couple of years ago, and even with a
new compressor, all the parts and paying someone to charge it I think he had
under $500 in the job.

With the approach that AC work is either under $100 or over $1000 in most
cases, he was pleased with the results. While the 108s were never light on
MPG, he did say it had a noticeable effect on throttle response and power with
the Sanyo as opposed to the York. I thought it was a quieter, too.

We did all the work with the exception of pulling down the system and charging
it.

I believe in originality and OE/OEM
 parts wherever practical, and
with the resources we have in Rusty, Kaleb and internet
 searches, it
 is almost always practical.

However, a york rebuilt has a very short life
 cycle/MTBF.  A new York
is a little better, but expensive.  A japanese rotary
 used
compressor, probably has more MTBF than a new York and will
 be a lot
less drag on the engine.  Look for a wreck with under
 100k or with an
obviously new compressor.  To me, in the PHX area, a
 reliable A/c
 system is a big deal.

A 115 240D probably never going to be a museum piece, and
 as long as
the compressor mount is on the engine, it can always be
 converted
back to a york if you decide to spend the money ($30k to
 150k) to
 restore and show it.

 good point

Thanks I will look at the Pinnacle Studio also.

So there would be no advantage to buying the Platinum on that website with
8mm film? What is the Hollywood restoration stuff they have listed there? I
am confused as to what format I should be getting.

Platinum HD Process: 1080 HDV, HD-AVI (MJPG), ProRes 422 or DPX HD Files
Silver Gold Process: AVI, MiniDV

I think I want something that I can just put in the DVD and watch and also
something that is compatible with video editing software like the Pinnacle
Studio you recommend. Being that the difference between the Gold and
Platinum is 9 cents paying that would actually give me peace of mind that I
got the best that’s available.

Thanks.. Douglas

Anyway with that website I wouldn't got less than silver, notice that bronze
is not full frame. I don't think I'd bother with platinum, we're talking 8mm
right? The quality of 8mm is limited anyway, if it were 16mm I'd consider
it.

For editing since you're on a PC I'll recommend Pinnacle Studio, buy
whichever level you think you need, more money = more tools as with most
anything. I'm not just saying that because I work for the company which in
the spirit of full disclosure I do. Actually I work for the parent company
in the professional video division but whatever. Cyberlink has been around

rankings because its a real professional video editor with a consumer
product front end made by the consumer video arm of a professional video
company (Avid).

Re: [MBZ] OT Video Editing Software Windows 7 64

2010-12-27 Thread Curt Raymond
It looks like Hollywood Restoration II is just a better restoration algorithem.
Probably better color color correction but as its 8mm its probably of dubious
value.

If it were me and I were going to run it through Studio I'd probably want it on
MiniDV tape. That way I'd have a good backup, then I could capture it with my
MiniDV camcorder, Studio makes that part VERY easy.
Otherwise I'd probably go with ProRes but you'd need to download a ProRes
decoder to make it work. Studio will import the ProRes media and turn it into
Studio Native media based on your output format (so if you're working in 1080i
for instance it'll use whatever its native format is for that). Then edit and
output to DVD or Blu-Ray or whatever. I *think* it'll even auto-upload to
youtube for you.

Being that the difference between the Gold and
Platinum is 9 cents paying that would actually give me peace of mind that I
got the best that?s available.

Thanks.. Douglas

Sorry for the slow reply as I'm on digest its annoying to reply from my
phone and we were at my parent's house for the holiday.

Cyberlink has been around
for years and I've played with it and HATED it. Studio gets really high
rankings because its a real professional video editor with a consumer
product front end made by the consumer video arm of a professional video
company (Avid).

I do think the newer Macs use more standard/cheap RAM.

I have many hundreds (thousands?) of hours on FinalCutPro. I
have tried using Cinelerra, OpenMovieEditor, kdenlive, and LIVES.

I'm still waiting for one of them to develop to the point I can

Or do you know of a better one?

Audio editing is a better situation. Ardour is decent, and with

However, a york rebuilt has a very short life cycle/MTBF. A new
York is a little better, but expensive. A japanese rotary used
compressor, probably has more MTBF than a new York and will be a
lot less drag on the engine. Look for a wreck with under 100k
or with an obviously new compressor. To me, in the PHX area, a
reliable A/c system is a big deal.

A 115 240D probably never going to be a museum piece, and as
long as the compressor mount is on the engine, it can always be
converted back to a york if you decide to spend the money ($30k
to 150k) to restore and show it.

I don't buy RAM anywhere other than Crucial anymore. I go online and use the

In your case it looks like $150 to double the RAM which you're right is brutal.
Cheaper to buy an early G5 with a stack of RAM already in it.

These days I use WinXP because I'm not going to learn another editing app until

bridge with me about 7 years ago when I called for support and I already knew
the product better that the support guy did. As a professional company their

Have you tried video editing on Linux?

I have many hundreds (thousands?) of hours on FinalCutPro.  I
have tried using Cinelerra, OpenMovieEditor, kdenlive, and LIVES.

I'm still waiting for one of them to develop to the point I can

Or do you know of a better one?

Audio editing is a better situation.  Ardour is decent, and with

I don't know where OWC gets their RAM, but I have bought from them for years
for any Mac RAM requirements and never had a problem. This is for desktops,
laptops and servers (G3, G4 and XServes.) They have always guaranteed
compatibility and offered lifetime warranty, and I've never had a problem or
had to replace any of it.

They have been a 100% Apple reseller for years, so they obviously know what
they are doing.

I would also encourage him to go to a G4 if he can, but if it's not local the
shipping alone will make it cost prohibitive.

In your case it looks like $150 to double the RAM which

It depends on who you were calling, but for the most part the support for their
professional applications (FCP, Logic, etc.) have been lacking, IMHO.

I have always gone through a reseller both for certification and support.
These guys are usually on the front lines with the apps and are the ones who
sold them to begin with. That being said, they typically (from my experience)
have a lot more real world experience with the applications and are a lot
more savvy when it comes to things that are out of the norm.

I am a certified HP tech, too, and while Apple has always done well with their
consumer product support, HP does a really good job with their enterprise
stuff, which is their bread and butter.

At least Apple doesn't ship their support overseas if I get someone who
does not seem to have English as their native language when I call HP, I ask
for someone who does...

Wel, maybe. After I picked up a Mac MDD dual 867 a few years ago, I
maxed out the RAM to 2GB, purchased from REPC in Seattle and I think I paid
about $25 per module. I have had zero problems with it.

At the time they had all sorts of used RAM for sale. They are at
www.repc.com and their email is r...@repc.com.

I have subsequently upgraded to a dual 1.6 processor (OWC, I think) and the
combination of this, the RAM increase plus a USB2 card makes buying a new
box a very hard sell. This model is the last dual-boot machine and I still
have a few OS9.2.2 files stored which I couldn't access if I bought anything
newer.

BTW, there is an update for Mactracker (freeware) now available.

No leaks - and it all works and feels right.

Re: [MBZ] holy crap I love this car

2010-12-27 Thread E M
It is an older car, but even so, I don't think the conditions reflects a
true 39,000 mile car. I think the rubber bits in the engine had a quick
wipe down with an oily rag, but hard to believe some of the lines, bolts,
and connects could look like that with such low mileage.

Then again, maybe it's spent a lot of it's life outdoors, who knows.

It did. And I then sucked all the dirty stuff out of the tank.
Besides, I seem to have a, uhm, well - history of running the
tank dry when I bleed the brakes the other way. Thought I'd
give this a try. I considered trying it _before_ the tank was
