Re: [MBZ] Bleeding 240D clutch
My favorite way to bleed clutch systems is to use an old fashioned hand pump oil gun. I fill the pump oiler with brake fluid, attach a hose to the pump output pipe and to the bleed screw on the clutch slave cylinder. Then loosen the cap on the clutch master cylinder [leave it on, just not tight, if you leave it off, you will squirt brake fluid where you don't want it under the hood]. With the clutch pedal up, start pumping the hand oiler to pump brake fluid from the bottom [slave cylinder is lower, air likes to move up] ... Check the clutch master for fluid in the reservoir so you don't over fill it. When the Master cylinder reservoir is 1/4 or more full of fluid, you have displaced all the air in the system, so close the bleed port and remove the line and pump... finish filling the master reservoir, and tighten the cap... At that point, you should have no air trapped in the entire system and you should have a clutch that works. My goal is to keep it rented for another 3 years then sell. Here’s something that’s weird: Looks like the part number is a Bosch F00M144132 or a Mercedes 0041540006. Anything I’ve found online isn’t available until the end of July. It’s around $50 aftermarket (Bosch) and around $80 from Mercedes. I gotta think about this. -D > On Jul 3, 2020, at 10:16 PM, Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes > wrote: > > Good to know. [MBZ] jasper transmissions
Honda Element transmission went out and left me on the side of the road tonight. I had thought it was a shift solenoid issue, replaced it about a month ago and it seemed better. But in the heat today it just would not engage gears. Was OK when cold but as it warmed up it got worse and worse and finally would not engage at all. Fluid level OK. I kind of want to keep the car since it's otherwise pretty solid and I will have a son in college who could take it this winter. Figure a transmisison job will be less than buying anything else reliable for the same money. Anyone familiar with Jasper transmissions? A glance at their website seems to indicate they only sell through installers. Are they generally good? DIY rebuild feasible? Never done that. At the time pot was not legal here. Last year it became legal. I guess they figured they did not have to get permission. I was not too happy. Next contract will specifically mention it. So basically they said the health dept told them the results would be back Tuesday. Supposedly if the results are positive then them and the property would be quarantined for 14 days. When are they due out by? I'd think you ought to just leave it lie and let them get out. Nobody really wants to see a rental full of somebody else's crap, especially if they're low quality folks during a pandemic... [MBZ] 211 power management
Was sitting in the wagon this afternoon, AC on, radio (CD) on, engine idling. After a few minutes the AC shuts off, message appears. I shut off the radio and the AC came back on and message went off. Started driving and put on the radio again and it was fine. The woman I bought it from said she put in new batteries not long ago, I wonder if it was because of that issue. It happened to me a time or two before when I first started it but went away when I drove off. It’s kinda weird. Seems like the alternator is not putting out enough electrons if this is an issue. [MBZ] The copart CDI with no key
The key just arrived in the mail. Works great. I have a small generic battery in the car at the moment which has been sitting for about a month. Car still had power so what the hell, I will give it a shot and see if it works. It cranked just fine but no start. Sounds fine but i noticed no glow plug light. I assume these have a glow plug light somewhere. It is 92 at the moment and I cranked on it for a few minutes until the battery started slowing down. I would think with the temps the way they are it would have started even without glow plugs. So tomorrow I will hook up DAS to it and see if it tells me anything. Need to start researching the things that might prevent a CDI from starting. Stay tuned for the next chapter. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Thanks, Grant, I’ll do that. That feature makes it impossible to use a spare fuel jug to put fuel in the tank... You need a "special adaptor" that holds the flapper open while you put the fuel jug in the hole. FLAPS has the adaptors, pretty cheap... suggest one be added to the vehicle survival kit and kept in the car just because. Thanks, Rick. With Mitch mentioning something about rear window hinges I inspected these closely and found nothing of concern. I’m hoping it’s a good choice. Seems like a solid vehicle, and I’ve got experience with both Fords and Mazdas of this era, so if I do have to wrench on it I’m not worried about anything being out of my range of ability or skill. One thing of note I found odd - these vehicles don’t have gas caps! Apparently, there’s a shutter in the filler neck that seals everything off, so a cap would be redundant. Re: [MBZ] Pressure washers
Sounds more like engine problem than the actual pump based on fact engine dies when trigger pulled (demanding engine deliver more power). Probably fuel, maybe main jet blocked by corrosion. -Original Message- From: Mercedes On Behalf Of Okiebenz via Mercedes Sent: Friday, July 3, 2020 11:53 AM To: Mercedes Discussion List Cc: Okiebenz Subject: [MBZ] Pressure washers I think my gas powered Troy built power washer is fubar. Pump might be locking up. I have had it probably 3-4 years but not used it that much. Yesterday I got it out and it fired right up after the first pull and ran fine for a couple of minutes then slowed down and died. Pulling the cord the motor felt like it had a load on it and would start but immediately die. After a couple of times at this then I couldn’t pull it fast enough to get it to start. If I pulled the trigger on the gun engine would turn over more freely and would start then die. Maybe it was taking water pressure off the pump. Reading the manual it says no maintenance is required and pump is sealed for life. I hen admittedly not maintained it by the book. I believe you are supposed to drain the water out of the pump after use and saw something about squirting pump saver into it for winter storage. Re: [MBZ] Pressure washers
Search for a replacement pump, buy and replace the pump.. Motor starts and runs, so most likely is OK... Pump alone should be much less than a new washer. Once pump is removed, you should be able to run the engine, sans pump... if it runs OK... it is good. "Sealed for life" means you can't add oil until it breaks and we sell you a new one... great marketing plan? Not for guys like us who actually fix things... Check the pump, it should have a drain port for oil.. or a fill port for oil.. Washer pumps typically use synthetic single grade oil... like a 30 wt when you take it off... turn it over by hand to feel for "stuck parts" and look for the factory fill port... If you left water in the pump over winter... it may be the pistons etc are rusted up replace with new pump...
