My '83 300D has 162K miles on the trans -- the first winter I had the car it had some flaring in the low gears when the trans was cold, which was cured by Mobil-1 ATF. Then about 5000 miles ago the B2 piston failed (actually the flaring could have been an early symptom of that problem).
