IIRC you didn't put a vapor barrier under the concrete so the advice we as a
group gave you last year was a pretty resounding neither. Your problem is that
moisture WILL creep up through the concrete. If you paint it the paint will
fail rapidly, just the like the paint in my basement does and for the same
reasons. If you put carpet it'll probably mold like Grant suggests.Probably the
best option to my mind is to cover the floor with plastic and deck it with
plywood. The moisture will migrate along the plastic and out the edges...

If you do it properly, (rip it out, vapor barrier and new concrete) you

RadonSeal® has been the leading concrete sealer for commercial and
residential projects since late 1990's. It is a reactive internal
sealer for poured concrete, concrete blocks, mortar, and other
cementitious materials.

RadonSeal penetrates deep into concrete (up to 6 depending on
porosity), reacts, expands inside the pores, and cures as a silicate
mineral. Once cured, it will seal your concrete permanently against
water seepage, efflorescence, water vapor, and even radon gas.

Unlike common sealers (coatings) and waterproofing paints sold in big
box stores, RadonSeal will never peel or wear away. It cannot be
pushed out from the pores regardless of hydrostatic pressure! The
internal seal becomes integral to the concrete itself – there is never
a need to re-apply the sealer again! RadonSeal will make your concrete
denser and stronger - it is like injecting more cement into the
concrete.

Well... logic says, if water can migrate up, why can't a material with the
right surface tension migrate down?

Concrete is porous not solid.. it expands and contracts with temperature
changes.

sealer for poured concrete, concrete blocks, mortar, and other
 cementitious materials.

RadonSeal penetrates deep into concrete (up to 6 depending on
porosity), reacts, expands inside the pores, and cures as a silicate
mineral. Once cured, it will seal your concrete permanently against
water seepage, efflorescence, water vapor, and even radon gas.

Unlike common sealers (coatings) and waterproofing paints sold in big

pushed out from the pores regardless of hydrostatic pressure! The
internal seal becomes integral to the concrete itself – there is never
a need to re-apply the sealer again! RadonSeal will make your concrete
denser and stronger - it is like injecting more cement into the

My hangar floor is painted concrete. I don't know what kind of paint, nor
how old it is, but I do know that the Chem Tool carb cleaner will dissolve

My parents bought a five gallon pail of some clear, volatile/smelly concrete
sealant made by BASF, had a gallon or so left after putting two coats on their
new 24x40 garage. Unfortunately, they took the leftover stuff to the county's
annual 'free toxic waste recycling day', so I can neither use it on my garage
floor nor tell you the product number.

Slab was poured over a packed sand base 4-5 years ago.

Re: [MBZ] OT: Concrete paint or other covering for shed floor

2015-06-04 Thread WILTON via Mercedes
In '75, we had a problem of moisture making its way through concrete slab in
George Air Force Base laundry - in Mojave Desert. For MANY years, paint,
epoxy, etc., etc., would not stay on it. My guys (civil engineering
painters) took me to see it and asked if I might have any suggestions. The
painted surface had little bubbles (some not so little) all over it. Guess
what I found when I broke a few of the bubbles - yep - water. I told 'em,
Let me think about it coupla days. 'Just happened to go to Sears in
Victorville that evening. 'Walked into the appliance/tools area and
suddenly had the answer - the area had indoor/outdoor carpet on the floor!
'Next day I told my guys,Scrape the paint off the floor and install
indoor/outdoor carpet of appropriate color and texture. Shonuff - problem
solved!

Probably no plastic under unless you specified it and saw the plastic with
your own eyes. that means that most paints won't stay stuck because of
moisture wicking up through the concrete.

I had trouble with epoxy sticking with a sealer on top and no barrier
under. Epoxy sticks better than paint.

Talk to an epoxy contractor and see if they will guarantee their floor and
fix it if the epoxy does not stay stuck. Not cheap, but the industrial
floor epoxy is better than any you or I can buy.

Not on top - not sure about beneath. It was poured by a licensed
contractor.

Does the concrete have a vapor barrier (heavy plastic sheet) underneath?

 Any sealer on top?

Leave it be?
It is a garden shed.
Why worry about covering the concrete?

Along that line: Cover it with 2 or more of dirt/gravel/peanut
shells etc.. you'll be able to stand on it much longer at a time.

You have to wait 6 months or one year can't remember for the concrete to fully
cure before you paint. Why would you want to paint anyway?
