Thanks for your response! Initially I thought about having melted as
playout for local files only and having other software which could switch
between melted's output and other inputs. But melted has the ability of
loading almost anything, so... why having other piece of software handling

Sounds interesting! Though I wouldn't really expect melted to be something
that does video switching - I think it works well for playout and perhaps
should remain as such. Transitions would be cool, though the control
protocol would need to be much more complex and I can imagine all sorts

Sorry for stepping in into this thread, but me and some fellows are writing
a playout system based on mlt. For the moment I'm working on a port for
melted to java, which will extend melted capabilities (i.e. add filters and
transitions to an existing playlist in melted without using xml).

We're an HTML shop and webvfx seemed like a natural fit. We combined it
with the Greensock animation libraries which allow you to sync timeline
progress with webvfx's ti
