Just saw this discussion.
I've heard the same things. I have a few autographed lobby cards which are
fun to have and not especially valuable otherwise so if you're not buying
them for investment purposes or re-sale then I guess it's moot.
Mine have Ray Milland's autographs and I like the cards.

I think it depends entirely on the authenticity of the autograph, the signer,
and the invididual poster involved.
We had a Fred Astaire signed half sheet from TOP HAT and the signature
definitely did not devalue that poster.
But I think mopoers who have advised against this have a point.
