The crowd that packed the city council chambers last night to protest the

First, thanks also go to Vic Thorstenson for his work on the NAACP plan.

this (one of my best friends on the list deleted every single

A correction to my lengthy redistricting post:
The Jordan neighborhood was moved out of Joe Biernat's Ward 3, not Barb

Jordan ended up in Ward 4 instead of Natalie Johnson Lee's Ward 5, you'd
have two wards with 60-plus

I agree. One good thing that may come from it is an increased resistance

I realize the big whee today is redistricting issues but the sun is
hanging ten in a clear blue sky, there are kestrals flying loops around my
downtown apartment (sun must have them confused too) and I'd rather stick to
non-wonk areas.

I'm not sure what to think. These changes or nonchanges--and the change in
Phillips is immense--need some time to sink in and consider. Here's my

I also really like the small town idea of placing an object on the ice to
determine the exact date and time. Something like a junked out car or some
other such eviscerated hulk.
A 'junked out car' is not a good idea. Oil, brake and

Ward 10 is another one to watch - we just lost a chunk of the south part
which is less green but gained a bunch to the west which may (I only glanced
at it last night) include part of uptown. We keep the progressive wedge.

I am having trouble readng Terrell's map (it doesn't come in too clear on my

Looking at the map, it looks as if it is in Ward 8 now or the, but again, I
can't read the map that well on this computer. I am on 34th and 15th.
The new 6th ward boundaries have Ventura Village and
West Phillips in the ward in their entirety. East
Phillips and Midtown are in the 9th ward in their
entirety. Sorry to those who object, but, the days of
one Phillips neighborhood are about to be over.

It hasn't gotten as much attention, but the Redistricting Commission
also passed a new plan for Park Rec Districts. It can be viewed at:

Well, what a week in beautiful Minneapolis as people of color, the poor,
the disenfranchised and the Greens got trashed! About two weeks ago I
thought I was going to lose my council member and my block would be only a
slice of the pie going into Ward 9. But NO we all got sliced over to
I agree with David's points about the unfortunate disconnection of Kingfield from the other neighborhoods that share its general concerns. I'm still going to be more concerned about the issues that affect me personally (my kids schools, shops, the lakes), even those just happen to no longer be in
There are Republicans, and there are Republicans. I don't
know personally either of the RPM commissioners on the

As for benefits for Ward 8, a number of people feel that Ward 5 has lost
