[MLO] Re: feature suggestion: multiselect contexts with mixed state in checkbox

2021-07-02 Thread Stéph
Just trying to remember - That was a reply I wrote a few months back!

I think I was saying that the "current situation", where not all of the
contexts are listed, is a bug report, but that the idea of introducing a
mixed state in the context checkboxes sounded like a feature request.
Doesn't really matter - As long as it's brought to the beta and developer's
attention, it all gets reviewed.

[MLO] Re: feature suggestion: multiselect contexts with mixed state in checkbox

2021-07-02 Thread Joel Azaria

Which part is bug, which is feature request? I'm trying to figure out how
to remove 1 context from a group of tasks with varied/mixed contexts
assigned.

[MLO] Re: FEATURE SUGGESTION: Show appointments above tasks, optionally

2020-10-09 Thread Stéph
Correction - *You *don't need the graph! :-) I actually find the graph
quite useful, to help me judge quickly whether I have a particularly
overloaded day in the next week.

I'd find the Today view much more useful, though, if it added up the Max
time for my tasks and the durations of my appointments. I could also do
with being able to set a default Max time for new tasks, so I didn't have
to edit the times individually.

[MLO] Re: Feature suggestion

2018-05-09 Thread Fletcher Kauffman
I had made a similar request a long time ago, except I wanted for it to
return a *random* task out of a list. Andrey didn't like the idea, so it
got canned.

There's a lot of things like this that may not have an obvious use case,
but they enable so much more emergent functionality.

Some of these things can be accomplished with the existing application, but
they're complex and cumbersome and hard-to-maintain.

[MLO] Re: Feature suggestion

2018-04-09 Thread Ayman Teaman
I do something similar to what Michael does as well :)

Your 'variable task' feature reminds me of a feature I suggested on my
application to 'beta team', namely "*Workflows*".
You can implement a workflow-like setup by using combinations of "do tasks
in order" and repeatability, and while it is flexible, but:
1) It is complex
2) Doesn't capture all the requirement (e.g. some tasks can be optional,
have what-if scenario)
3) Once you go beyond 3-7 tasks in a given project or folder, it starts to
get really complex.

*Workflows *help you create, manage, view a 'set' of tasks. It can be also
implemented as a wizard, making it super powerful.
I believe workflows is a 'major' feature, and I can discuss it more if
there is interest in it.

If the OP strictly wants simple to create, quick tasks to be done in
'succession', then I agree (i.e. random things that pop in the day, and you
just want to quickly organize yourself).
*I see tremendous value in implementing this feature.*
However, if they are repeatable tasks and things that don't have a sense of
urgency, then I believe Michael's approach is the right way to go as it is
flexible and already exist :)

[MLO] Re: Feature suggestion

2018-04-09 Thread Domas
I think it's always cost & benefits analysis. If it's possible to replicate
a specific piece of functionality using current functions, then perhaps
it's not worth developing.
As every new feature will cost time & money to developers.

[MLO] Re: Feature suggestion

2018-04-06 Thread Stéph
Hello Fernando,

Michael and Nick's point is that the outcome you're looking for can already
be achieved with existing MLO functionality. However, your suggestion
wouldn't add any complication (in fact it would be quite a neat option, if
it can be implemented reasonably easily by the developers) so, although I
can't imagine I'd use it, I'd agree that it would be a useful addition for
others.

>From my experience of being on the beta team, I'd say the decision on which
features to develop is based on the level of interest (number of positive
responses), but also on how complicated it is to develop. It also depends
on whether the suggestion fits with Andrey's vision for direction of the
software. So, there isn't really a count of thumbs up and down and there
isn't any guarantee of which suggestions will be adopted.

I agree with Michael. It’s much more flexible to have separate tasks as you can
change other settings on each. It’s hardly any additional typing either.

2018-04-04 Thread TMZ
Once there was a question how you can get the effect of that feature with
the existing MLO - that shows, that it isn't quite simple to do.

And I think, that feature would be used by many users, cause it's a
every-day-situation.

RE: [MLO] Re: Feature suggestion

2018-04-04 Thread 'Michael Emerald, CFA' via MyLifeOrganized
I prefer the existing “subtasks in order” for this implementation. Though, a
suggestion I mentioned before, I’d like MLO to acknowledge a delay EVEN WHEN
THERE IS NO EXPLICIT DEPENDENCY. Your example is perfect to explain why…

I clean the bathroom. Whew! I need a break now! At least a week before I get
to the kitchen! So I’d like to have:

PARENT: Clean house (subtasks in order)

Clean bathroom

Clean bedroom (1 week delay)

Clean kitchen (1 week delay)

Moreover, by NOT having to specify dependencies, I can easily re-arrange to
correct the above mistake (I want to do the kitchen after the bathroom) without
having to delete then reform dependencies.

Hi!

Some time ago, I tried a task manager named "Above & Beyond", that had a nice
feature: "variable tasks".

For example, you could have a "daily" task named: Clean
[Bathroom|Bedroom|Kitchen]

The first time the task appears, it would say "Clean Bathroom". When you check
it as done, the next repetition will appear as "Clean Bedroom", and the next
one "Clean Kitchen"... and then repeat itself.

In that way, you can have only one task, with a diferent name each time it
repeats.

I think this would be a great addition to MLO.

Greetings and nice week!

[MLO] Re: Feature Suggestion: Add mouse-over icons to indicate special click behaviors (like "jump to this item in the Outline")

2015-01-15 Thread John Smith

I think this is an *excellent* idea. Did anything come of this?

I would like popup text for describing all the current hotkeys available to
the user, when the user does a mouse-over on the relevant text.
e.g. "This is a project" would say: "Alt/J"
e.g. Mousing over the "Start:" date would say: "Alt/S"
e.g. Mousing over a Star icon would say: "Control/Shift/S"

etc.

And if the user had set up any special hotkeys, that these would appear
instead.

For the benefit of anyone who might find this irritating we could
a) make sure it happened only after a delay of say 2 or 3 seconds
b) possible have it configurable to be switched off somewhere... but either
way for the benefit of new & forgetful users I think it should default as
being on (!)

[MLO] Re: Feature Suggestion: Add filter criteria: "IsNextAction"

2009-10-18 Thread Lisa Stroyan
Hi Jonas,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I do sometimes set "complete
subtasks in order" in order to get this functionality in my task
list. However, I think the Next Action concept, from David Allen's
"Getting Things Done", is still very useful but not implemented in
the most useful way as is. I maintain that the idea of "Next
Actions", should include standalone tasks, or at least give me the
ability to implement a view myself. Even David Allen has pointed out
that you don't need to turn everything into a project with
meaning. (He had a little story somewhere about how "Feed the cat"
could be because I love cats, and going into Self, or it could be
because my spouse loves cats and I want to do it for them so
therefore it's part of relationships, etc etc but in the end, I just
need to feed the cat!)

I'm using "next actions" in a different way than in an Active task
list. Next actions are not the same as "what tasks can I do at this
time", which is what the Active Tasks is for. Next Actions only
shows the first Active Action for each project, even if many can be
done simultaneously. My belief is that Next Actions are
intricately tied in with projects, and if a task is not a part of a
project, then it is by definition it's own next action.

But then, I hadn't thought of the complication of folders underneath
the project...hmmm

Lisa (This stuff is so much more fun to think about than the stuff in
my life at the moment - can anyone tell?)

[MLO] Re: Feature Suggestion: Add filter criteria: "IsNextAction"

2009-10-18 Thread Jonas Bergenudd

i use:

folder f1 (folder and not set complete subtasks in order)
  task t1
  task t2
  task t3
project p1 (project, not folder and not set complete subtasks in order)
inorder (folder and set to complete subtasks in order)
task p1.t1 (must be done in order)
task p1.t2 (must be done in order)
task p1.t3 (can be done simultaneously)
task p1.t4 (can be done simultaneously)
project p2 (project, not folder and not set complete subtasks in order)
inorder (folder and set to complete subtasks in order)
task p2.t5 (must be done in order)
task p2.t6 (must be done in order)
task p2.t7 (can be done simultaneously)
task p2.t8 (can be done simultaneously)

active tasks in the todo view give me:
task t1
task t2
task t3
task p1.t1
task p1.t3
task p1.t4
task p2.t5
task p2.t7
task p2.t8

when task p1.t1 is completed task p1.t2 pops up and when that is done
the inorder folder does not show

Doning it this way, you can stick tasks that need to be done in order
in the inorder-folder and everything that doesn't depend on anything
straight in the project folder...

example:

buy wife flowers
paint room
  inorder
decide paint scheme
get approval from spouse
buy paint
  buy filler
  buy paintbrush
  get floorcoverpaper
  borrow ladder from tom
  borrow spray painter from bill

next actions are:
  buy wife flowers
  decide paint scheme
  buy filler
  buy paintbrush
  get floorcoverpaper
  borrow ladder from tom
  borrow spray painter from bill

At 05:39 AM 10/17/2009, you wrote:

>There is a filter in Advanced Filters named ActiveAction. It is what
>you are looking for?

ActiveAction is different from NextAction, because it gives all of
the active actions for a project instead of just the next one.

The reason we cannot use the NextAction filter at the top is that it
doesn't include all actions that are not in a project, but are in a folder.

So if I have (none with "complete in order" or dependencies)

Folder F1
Task T1 Take out the garbage
 Task T2 Cook dinner
 Task T3 Call my mom
 Project P1
 Task P1.1
 Task P1.2
 Task P1.3
 Project P2
 Task P2.1
 Task P2.2

I want a view that shows me:

T1
T2
T3
P1.1
P2.1

The first three are "standalone tasks" - they don't need a project
but yet they are their own next action. So if I had "IsNextAction"
then I could make a rule that says Active tasks that "IsNextAction OR
Project is empty".

[MLO] Re: Feature Suggestion: Add filter criteria: "IsNextAction"

2009-10-17 Thread Mr. Analogy

No, because what I want to see are:
Next Actions OR Actions that are due soon.

I.e., When I decide what I want to work on next, I'm overhwelmed by
"Available Actions" (too many actions) but if I choose Next Actions, I
won't see something that is overdue if it's not a Next Action.

IF I choose Action Filter: NextAction then I don't see those "overdue
but not next" actions.

It's quite easy to add a rule to say "not completed"...I don't think
it needs another filter, especially if a Deferred/Dropped status is added.

I misunderstood your original suggestion. What I would love to see
is a tab for each view that has (a new checkbox) "Show as a tab"
marked. That way I would see something like:

Outline | Todo | Next Actions | My favorite view | Flagged Tasks...etc

Where Outline and Todo are the same as they are now, but the rest of
the tabs are defined in the Manage Views dialog.

2009-10-12 Thread Mr. Analogy

Correction to my complaint:

(I'm new to MLO)

If you choose a View (in the To-Do tab) it has an Action Filter
associated with it. So that avoids the complication I thought it
had:you don't have to remember to select the Action Filter AND the
View; just the View.

And, Lisa: thanks for suggestioning the possibility of a Shorcut for
View. I think that'll be useful.

Yes:

Go to: To-Do tab, click Manage View at the bottom left. You'll get
the "Manage To-do views" dialog. In the lower right corner you'll see
"View Hotkey"

However, even if you Hot Key'ed a View, you'd also have to make sure

I really like this idea!! May I suggest a second checkbox in the
Manage Views dialog for "Make a tab for this view". This would be a
very helpful feature - I'm constantly needing to change my view.

To the original poster - do you know you can set up a key combo for

[MLO] Re: Feature Suggestion: Attachments Tab

2009-05-29 Thread mikemac

This is one of those little things that would be great if it was
implemented. We're all used to Outlook mail that has attachements and
the little attachment icon, so implementing this feature would let MLO
work in a familiar way (apologies in advance to all Msoft haters).

So one vote here for the feature.

[MLO] RE: Feature Suggestion: Hotkey for 'Up One Level'

2009-04-03 Thread Luciano Passuello

Ah, the simplicity! Thanks, Tito! :)

I feel dumb after trying many combinations involving backspace, alt, up
arrow, etc. :)

All the best,

Try left-arrow key on your key board. If you are in a collapsible
group, it will collapse the group first then goes the one level up if
you press the left-arrow key again. Play with it. Also try the right-
arrow key. It has the reverse effect.
