The alternator on my 78 Suzuki GS-1000 is rated at 14 amps - the
82 450 Nighthawk I've got has I think an 11 or 12 amp alternator. So
yes, they are right around 12 amps.
Somebody - Paul? - has a Goldwing with an aftermarket 30 amp
alternator on it which doesn't sound like much

If you've ever seen one of those BMW's up close and in person you
would never buy one. Somebody at BMW took an ugly stick and beat the
heck out of an already ugly design. I sat on one and even the
position was strange, also the back seat looked about as comfortable
as a 2 by 6 to sit on.

Yeah, I put an 80 amp alternator on that Cuda, and wasn't sure it would be
enough. But the car does have two electric fans, windshield wipers, and a few
more dash stuff than the bike.
It would 'light up my life' to have some more electrics on the bike, but I

I'm going to mimic Allen here, and suggest that you're leaking more than
you're burning. Perhaps you may also need to check the crankcase breather
tubes? If you aren't draining that back into the case, you are going to
entrain a lot of oil there and then burn some besides.
