least this form of trickery benefits the bird.

I updated
two years ago, ironically also on
Nov. 25. Hopefully, these guys fared better and took advantage of the
sunshine today to get the heck out of here.

Updated the map again, with 28 to show the Nov. 28 location.
http://www.stevewalternature.com/downloads/Alley_Map.jpg . I also marked a
K for Kingsbury Ave. There is parking on the street and an entrance into
the park that puts you close. There are split walkways that go under and
over the
over PB and a Red Bat flying for an extended period of time
over the ball field at D2. If interested, pictures can be seen at
http://www.stevewalternature.com/ on the birds recent work page. I know it's
not a bird, but close enough. It felt like trying to photograph swifts.

apparent when the teal flock came out of resting along the far shore and
began feeding in the open (foraging, as some might say). I got nice scope
looks (code for forget about pictures). Might be worth mentioning that
there are 3 Pintails on the lake.

for large numbers of loons now in the Jones Beach area. I watched a Common
come up with a crab, while a Herring Gull with one added to my growing list
of food items in my bird photographs.

I posted a picture of the Varied Thrush at http://www.stevewalternature.com/ .
Also, a recent pic of the Huntington Tufted Duck on the recent work page.
On another note, for anyone looking for Redheads in the Queens area, there are
a few back on Baisley Pond.

I would think it's a hybrid. I finally caught up with it recently and got
pictures. I don't recall anyone posting a picture, so I have done so. You
can see what this critter looks like at http://www.stevewalternature.com/

same area, first by Rich, then by Eric Miller, then finally by me. Eric also
reported Blue-headed Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, and a Wood Duck. The
female Ring-necked Duck is still there, now associating with an immature
male Lesser Scaup who just arrived earlier in the week.
