I re-found the Barrow’s Goldeneye first located by Ricard Aracil off Orchard
Beach yesterday, swimming with some Common Goldeneye. There were also a few
Surf Scoter mixed in with a large raft of Greater Scaup.
As of yesterday, the Pileated Woodpecker remains on Hunter Island.

There is a bright adult Red-headed Woodpecker on Hunter Island in Pelham Bay
Park in the Bronx.
First spotted by Brendan Keogh and myself on Monday, we relocated it again this
morning.

On a walk today with City Island Birds, Dennis Hrehowsik spotted four Northern
Gannets directly off-shore, on Hunter Island in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx.
Over several years of birding this area, this was the first time we've ever
seen Gannets here.

The Lark Sparrows found by James Vellozzi this morning are still present in the
grass opposite the parking area at Edith Reade in Rye.

Northern Waterthrush, a few Common Yellowthroats and an Ovenbird.
This area was recently cleared of invasive species and a wood chip path was
installed. Although a relatively short path, this area looks promising for
birders.

At least two Red Headed Woodpeckers at Turtle Cove in Pelham Bay Park remain. I
saw two today at approximately 2PM. The birds fly in and out of the general
area on the wood chip trail. If the bird is not present when you get there,
give it some time, they usually show.

noted that the Turtle Cove area was once covered with invasive
species. The invasives were removed and now native plants have returned. The
return of these native plants has substantially increased our bird population
in this area.

Mike Russo asked me to post an odd Canada x ? hybrid mixed in with the Canada
Geese at Orchard Beach Parking Lot. The goose is larger than a Canada and not
like anything he’s ever seen.

Many of the usual winter species were around: Juncos, Titmouse, Chickadees, WB
Nuthatch, Red-tailed Hawks, Savannah, Song and Tree Sparrows, RC Kinglet, Brown
Creepers, Turkey Vultures and Cedar Waxwings.
On the water we could only find Bufflehead.
